Assessment of Corrosion-Resistant Anodic Aluminium Oxide Coating

Katturajan, Mano Kannan, WAP, Thamel January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this project is to investigate the quality of the anodic oxide coating of twotypes of aluminium alloy samples, EN AW-6014 and EN AC-43100, and to identifyappropriate test methods to assess their corrosion resistance properties. The corrosionbehaviors of the anodic oxide coating of the selected aluminium alloys with the surfacestage as-is, anodized, and anodized & scratched are evaluated through standardizedclimate chamber tests, standardized and non-standardized immersion tests, non-standardized climatic cycle tests, and electrochemical tests. The form and extent ofcorrosion that occurs on the alloy samples after the tests are evaluated by visualappearance,surfacemorphology,andthroughcomparisonofcross-sectionalmicroscopic images of samples taken before the test. This study found that impedancetests were easy and quick test methods to check the quality of the anodic oxide layer. The study also concluded that the cyclic testing in artificial seawater and immersiontest in natural seawater at 28 ºC are the most appropriate test methods to assess thecorrosion behavior of the anodic oxide coating of aluminium alloys due to theircapability of identifying the significant differences between surface stages compared tothe pre-test samples.

Příprava a charakterizace vysoce hydrofobních povlaků na hořčíkové slitině AZ91 / Preparation and characterization of highly hydrophobic coatings on AZ 91 magnesium alloy

Šomanová, Pavlína January 2021 (has links)
Magnesium and its alloys have many interesting properties and thanks to them it can be used in many applications (transport industry, medicine etc.). Disadvantage of these materials is their high corrosion rate. For this reason, there is an effort to achieve high corrosion resistance through different modifications of magnesium and its alloys. In recent years the superhydrophobization of the surface seem to be an attractive solution for this question. This type surface modification minimalize contact between the surface and water. In this diploma thesis the superhydrophobic surface was created on the magnesium alloy AZ91. The first step included pretreatment of AZ91 surface by etching in solution of SnCl2 or ZnCl2. Next step was superhydrophobization in the ethanolic solution of stearic acid. The surface morphology and elemental analysis of the superhydrophobic coating were explored by use of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The adhesion properties of the coating on the AZ91 were analysed by means of scratching test. Contact and sliding angles were measured for superhydrophobic coatings. Electrochemical characterization of the coatings was determined using potentiodynamic polarization (PD) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Finally, the analysis of composition and the functional groups was made using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and the phase composition analysis was performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results show that the coatings prepared by etching did not lead to good corrosion properties, even though the value of contact angle was about 150 °. The reduction of corrosion resistance could be caused by not obtaining required surface morphology or insufficient binding of stearic acid in the form of stearate to the sample surface.

Soldagem circunferencial do aço inoxidável super duplex UNS S32750 pelo processo MIG com controle CMT® / Circunferencial welding aplied for inox steel super duplex UNS S32750 using the process MIG using CMT&reg control

Invernizzi, Bruno Pizol 29 March 2017 (has links)
This study carried out circumferential welding experiments in UNS S32750 Super Duplex Stainless Steel tubes using diameters of 19,05 mm and 48,20 mm. Welds were performed using various welding parameters on a MIG machine with Cold Metal Transfer&reg CMT control. The weld joints were evaluated by visual and dimensional inspection in addition to the Vickers microhardness and traction tests, as well as the microstructural analysis in conjunction with phase precipitation analysis, which was performed according to practice A of ASTM A923, and corrosion test in accordance with practice A of ASTM G48 in conjunction with ASTM A923. The results indicated that welds performed in pipes with a diameter of 19.05 mm showed a weld joint with unacceptable dimensions according to the standard, this condition being attributed the use of a high wire diameter for the welding conditions used. Welding performed for pipes with a diameter of 48.20 mm showed a lack of penetration under the conditions employed when welded by the conventional CMT&reg process. In the case of the use of CMT&reg combined with pulsed arc, under conditions that generated greater heat input during welding, this resulted in total penetration of the joint and adequate surface finish. The results indicated that welding using the CMT&reg process combined with pulsed arc, under the conditions (parameters) employed generated good surface finish, combined mechanical properties, meeting standards requirements, as well as a balanced microstructure and high resistance to corrosion.

Pasivace hliníku a hliníkových slitin v pasivačních lázních bez sloučenin Cr6+ / Passivation of Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys in passivation baths without Cr6+ Compounds

Macháč, Pavel January 2010 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with evaluation of efficiency of protection conversion coatings created by passivation metals and alloys in passivation baths without chromium compounds. The theoretical part is initially concerned with question of electrochemical corrosion of metals, consequently there are mentioned different methods of corrosion protection. The main section of theoretical part of this thesis deals with chromate conversion coatings, description of their protective efficiency (including their unique self-healing effect) and then with account of new chromate-free conversion coatings occurring as chromate alternatives, whose usage is constrained because of their content of hexavalent chromium, which is highly toxic, oxidizing and also carcinogenic and thereby very dangerous for human body and the environment. Experimental part of this thesis is concerned with evaluation of efficiency of particular conversion coating which is quite commonly use in some applications as chromate alternative. It is chromate-free conversion coating which is created by passivation of metals or alloys in passivation bath Pragokor BP, which contains zirconium fluorocomplexes and is without any chromium or other toxic or ecologically unhealthy compounds. The influence of sealing of the coating in preparation Pragokor Seal Al and also other surface treatments such as application of conservation wax WAXENG or cold application of zinc coating were tested too. Efficiency of mentioned surface treatments was then evaluated on aluminum and steel by laboratory accelerated and atmospheric corrosion testing.
