A Comparison Of Marriage Education And Brief Couples Counseling

Livingston, Tina 01 January 2006 (has links)
This study investigated marital adjustment for couples participating in one of two treatment groups; the Brief Integrative Couples Counseling model(Young & Long, 1998, 2007); and the PREPARE/ENRICH Empowering Couples marriage education weekend workshop (Olson & Olson,2000). This study examined the following research questions: Do couples show a different level of marital adjustment following Brief Integrative Couples Counseling compared to those who receive a marriage education treatment?; Do couples show greater marital adjustment following Brief Integrative Couples Counseling compared to those who participated in a Marriage Education weekend workshop treatment over time? This article presents an exploration of mean marital adjustment scores following participation in a Brief Integrative Couples Counseling treatment or a marriage education weekend workshop protocol. This study was a quasi-experimental design because participants were placed in pre-existing groups by self-selection. Following statistical analyses using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), the data suggest there is no difference in the level of change in marital adjustment scores between the two treatment groups. In addition, follow up analysis of covariance (ANCOVA's) was conducted on marital adjustment, using demographics as covariates.

Atendimento fenomenológico existencial com casal: uma possibilidade de ação psicológica autoral / Existential Phenomenological Therapy with couples: an authorial psychological action´s possibility

Sampaio, Vitor Faustino 13 April 2018 (has links)
The aim of this research is to clarify a possibility of existential phenomenological therapy towards couples. To do so, the research examines the authors practices, revealing he´s way of being psychologist with couples. After introducing the guiding question what is it like an existential phenomenological therapy with couples?, the research reveals three key points to which it looks for deepening: 1- the historical horizon in which the theme has being introduced and questioned, allowing it to be questioned in this research for another possibility of couples therapy; 2- The specific way of this possibility, an existential phenomenological perspective, so the research resume the author´s course in existential phenomenology, clarifying it as he´s understanding of human existence, as well as clarifying it as the research´s way of understanding the researched phenomenon; 3- to whom the therapy is destined: the couple. Thus, the research pursues considering and suspending previously determinant conceptions about couples, searching for a description founded in the human possibility of existence. From the clarifying of those three points the research could look to the guiding question, towards a dialog between the author and he´s practice and between the author and other couple therapy authors, to reveal another possibility of psychological action: existential phenomenological therapy with couples

Counselors' Comfort Levels and Willingness to Discuss Sexual Issues with Couples They Counsel

Wieck Cupit, Rachel 14 May 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that influence the relationship between counselors' sexual comfort and their willingness to discuss sexual issues with the couples they counsel. I surveyed 2000 members of the American Counseling Association (ACA). This study examined the relationships between counselors' sexual comfort and their willingness to discuss sexual issues with couples with a variety of variables. The results revealed that counselors' sexual education and training experience, supervision experience discussing sexuality, sexual attitudes, and age were all associated with both counselors' sexual comfort and willingness to discuss sexual issues with couples. Counselors' years of practice was found to be associated with their sexual comfort. Types of graduate specialization were found to be associated with counselors' willingness to discuss sexual issues with couples. The results of this study have implications for counselors, counselor educators, and supervisors. My hope is that counselor educators will utilize this knowledge to address counselors' in training sexual comfort level and willingness to discuss sexual issues with the couples.

Kurspahic, Ina January 2022 (has links)
