It is against this background that, this situation is treated as a matter of urgency by the South African presidency, government departments, civil society organisations and business sector to prevent and decreace the possibility of ruined socio-economic development in South Africa. Heedful to the status quo of the South African crime levels, the implementing of the integrated social crime prevention strategy was approved by the Sourth African presidency as a comprehensive and an appropriate framework to deal with the high levels of crime and to create opportunities for safety in South Africa (Presidency, 2010). The goal of this study was to explore the inherent approaches to implementing the integrated social crime prevention strategy in South Africa. In exploring this goal and objectives of the study, the researcher used Tech’s (in Creswell, 1994) data analysis framework to identify appropriate approaches to implementing the integrated social crime prevention strategy in South Africa. The findings in the study have shown that alternative approaches are crititical to implementing the integrated social crime prevention stategy in South Africa to foster integrated and collaborative delivery of services by all government department, civil society otganisation and private sector. It is also evident that, the recommendations of this study can be used as a guideline by different sectors to improve the implementation of the strategy in South Africa. The following are the key words used throughout the study: approach, implementation, integrated, social crime prevention and strategy which answered the primary research question: What are the inherent approaches to implementing the integrated social crime prevention strategy in South Africa. These crimes are of major concern to individuals and organizations (such insurance companies). The crime rate on vehicles has impact on the country's economy. A more accurate identification processes and methods can help prevent crime, fraud, essential resources and reliable for access control. In the world today, car theft seems to grow every day and one of the best possible solution is to put in place high and accurate authorization and authentication method. The study investigated how Fingerprint Biometric Technology could be deployed in Motor vehicles to enhance the security features. This include investigation on the factors which influence and impact technology adoption. Factors influencing the deployment of Fingerprint Biometric Technology were identified from the findings and a Framework was developed. The primary aim of the Framework is to guide the adoption and use of Fingerprint Biometric Technology for an improved and enhanced security systems in Motor vehicles.

M. Tech. Policing / This study is concerned with Community Policing Forums in the Gauteng North policing areas and the local communities, as well as police's knowledge, about the concept. The study investigates the implementation and effectiveness of Community Policing Forums as a crime prevention tool method and how it is managed.

Submitted to the Faculty of Arts in fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree Master of Arts in Community Work in the Department of Social Work at the University of Zululand, South Africa, 2005. / This study is about the Community policing forum of Kwamashu and its strategy of putting the youth at the forefront in the fight against crime. The study was conducted on crime prevention with more emphasis placed on community participation as is the strategy of the Department of Safety and Security. A sampling technique was used where thirty respondents who reside at Kwamashu were interviewed about community policing and youth involvement in it. Related literature that focuses on community policing and its effect on the youth was reviewed. Various recommendations have been made based on the findings of the study. The findings of the study highlighted the need for the community policing forum to market itself to the community. Community members, especially the youth, need to be motivated so that they can be active participants in the fight against crime. Research findings also indicated that the strategies used were effective but failure to communicate with the community undermined their effectiveness.

The question that arises is what can be done to stop the crime wave in South Africa and protect lives and property. The fact is, there is no one single step that can be taken to prevent crime. A joint effort by the community as a whole is the only way in which crime can be prevente. Proactive policing can be successful only if the community accepts collective responsibility for crime and makes a conscious effort to prevent crime. The police as an active partner in crime prevention should educate the community about how crime is committed, when and where it is committed and what can be done to decrease vulnerability to crime. An attitude of caring for each other must be cultivated in the community (the passive partner). This will result in respect for lives and property of others and will lead to proactive conduct. Precipitating policing by the community is a sign of successful education. This is illustrated not only by the hardening of the physical environment, but also by the community's involvement in ensuring that the environment is a safe and pleasant place for all. Lasting success can only be ensured if the police and the community are supported by other departments. South Africa also suffers from high rates of crime. The aim of this research is to determine the existence of any relationship between high levels of crime and low levels of entrepreneurship. The main findings of this research are that crime features as a considerable deterrent to entrepreneurship development and growth in South Africa.

Thesis (Mtech (Public Management))-- Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2011 / This study examines the influence of crime on the residents of Gugulethu, a previously disadvantaged urban community in the Cape Metropole. The research is particularly focused on the growing crime rate, which is perceived to adversely affect community development.Qualitative and quantitative research methods were employed in this study and two techniques of data collection were adhered to namely, self-administered questionnaires and person-to-person interviews. The target population of the survey were the residents of Gugulethu.The study found that the Gugulethu area suffers from problems associated with high levels of crime, high unemployment and lack of physical infrastructure. Violent crimes such as robbery, rape and assault are commonplace, occurring during daytime as well as at night. The range of criminal activity is comprehensive though. The study found that crime impacted negatively on citizens’ social and economic well-being in that economic opportunities were limited and economic investment curtailed. The situation is similar to that experienced with other deprived areas in the Cape Metropole, including parts of Mitchells Plain as well as Khayelitsha. Gugulethu is a smaller, more established urban area than Khayelitsha.The study forwards several recommendations relating to interventions which should be taken to ensure a secure environment for local residents, potential developers and investors, thus facilitating continued and much needed development in the area. Among the recommendations put forward are the upgrading of local infrastructure, the establishment of a healthy relationship between the community and the police,including the development of such initiatives as effectual Community Policing Forums (CPFs) and community development safety centres.

Thesis (M. A. (Criminology)) -- University of Limpopo, 2016 / Community Policing Forum is a forum established in terms of section 19(1) of the SAPS Act 68 of 1995 aimed at ensuring police accountability, transparency and effectiveness in the community. It was aimed at bridging the gap between the police and the community at large and builds a harmonious relationship between them. This study was aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of Community Policing Forums (CPF) in reducing crime in Makhwibidung village. Using structured and non-structured questionnaires, a total of 40 participants consisting of three groups, namely SAPS, CPF committee and residents, were conveniently selected to provide their knowledge of CPF in the above mentioned village. The findings revealed, by majority (82.50%) of respondents, identified lack of resources as the main challenge against the functioning of CPF, whilst 55% of 40 respondents pointed out poor relationship between the police and the community among other things. These challenges may therefore lead to the downfall of CPF, and thus showing that CPF still needs full support not only from the residents but from the provincial and national government. However, beside the challenges, the community and the police still manage to work jointly to fight against crime in their area as it is mandated by the Interim Constitution of 1993 that CPF must be established in each and every police station so that together they can fight crime. Afrikaans text / In hierdie navorsing is misdaadvoorkoming by besigheidskomplekse ondersoek aan die hand van Oscar Newman se verdedigbare ruimte teorie. Centurionsentrum is as studiegeval verkies omdat daar groot gebiede is wat volgens 'n oop plan ontwerp is en glad nie snags toegesluit kan word nie. Centurionsentrum is belig aan die hand van die meganismes van verdedigbare ruimte en 'n misdaadvoorkomingsmodel is ook vir Centurionsentrum opgestel. Aanbevelings vir die ontwerp van sekuriteit by die beplanning van enige besigheidskompleks is ook gedoen. Daar kan egter nog baie navorsing in hierdie ontwikkelende gebied van misdaadvoorkoming gedoen word en voorstelle vir moontlike toekomstige navorsing is gemaak. Misdaadvoorkoming; verdedigbareruimte, besigheidskompleks, winkelsentrum, omgewingsontwerp. / In this section of research, crime prevention at business complexes was examined and Oscar Newman's defensible space theory was used in the analysis. Centurion Centre was chosen as a study case because it has an open plan design. This has the effect that some parts of the centre cannot be closed at night. Centurion Centre was described in terms of the defensible space mechanisms. A crime prevention model was drawn up for Centurion Centre and recommendations were made regarding the security of future designs for business complexes. This field of study and approach to crime prevention is, however, very new in South Africa and suggestions for more research have been made.
