CHEN, Shuo 01 August 2003 (has links)

To communicate, perform and encourage crafts : – an investigation about the act of making, knowledge philosophy and the promoting of diversity within the field of woodworking

Rosengren, Theo January 2017 (has links)
My thesis is about how craft process especially my own practice can maintain tradition of woodworking the way my predecessors did, but also to include new generations and perspectives. The project is about creating a teaching environment with the next generation of makers. The objective is to show the value of working with your hands. In a technological world the younger generation is stripped of the hand and body-experience - arts, crafts and sports are taken away from the curriculum to give more time for theoretical education. The thesis is divided in two parts: One part theoretical and one part practical. The theoretical part aims to highlight the difference of thoughts and ideas surrounding the philosophical theories of knowledge and the educational side of craftsmanship. The practical part aims to further examine how to connect with the new generation of makers. My method to connect with my target group, 14 to 16 years old, is to arrange workshops where the participant are challenged to make and design their own stool. This thesis is not a study in the pedagogic practice of handicraft. The educational approach I take is personal and hands-on, one I would use with a young apprentice in my wood workshop. The result of my thesis shows the success of the test workshop and how to improve the method in the future. The workshop yielded one important realization: It ́s possible to influence attitudes towards craftmanship with a physical approach, rather than a theoretical.

The challenge of Affordable Housing in new urban development projects: : The case of Nyhamnen

Illerbrand, thyra, Hinderson, Hanna January 2021 (has links)
The notion of Affordable Housing became widespread in the 1980s in North Americaand Europe, when the growing gap between rich and poor manifested itself inthe housing system. In Malmö today, the monthly rent for new produced tenanciescorresponds to about 70 percent of the average citizens disposable income per month.Affordable Housing is important because it improves the quality of life by leading tobetter health, financial stability, security, adequate jobs and population diversity. This thesis gives light to the current problem of Affordable Housing shortage and housinginequality, that is affecting certain groups. Those groups are the many young adultswho can’t move away from home due to financial reasons, or aspects such as divorce, migrancy, bad credit or debts that prevent them from getting a lease in Malmö. The thesis investigates whether Affordable Housing can meet the urgent need of housingfor low-income earners, and to activate a large new urban development project calledNyhamnen, set to be completed by 2050. Nyhamnen is located in the old harbor, indirect contact with the waterfront. The municipality of Malmö is promising a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable, mixed-use urban district. Mixed-usezoning creates conditions enabling individuals from varied socioeconomic backgroundsto live together, which corresponds to Malmö’s large diversity, but this can only occurif individuals can afford to live in the new development project. Previous research shows an urgent Affordable Housing crisis that affects people’squality of life, and the word ‘’crisis’’ is not sufficient enough to describe the actualdamage being done. There is a lack of previous research on Affordable Housing inthe context of new development projects and by a waterfront, therefore this study aimsto highlight that gap. The thesis consists of a case study and empirical data in the formof an interview study, findings, discussion and conclusions. Semi-structured interviewswere performed with managers and officials at various companies to investigate theincentives that exist for Affordable Housing today. The conclusions of the study presents a strategy of providing 25% tenancies and 75%condominiums in Nyhamnen, which could both be cost effective and strengthen socialsustainability in the new district in the future. Nyhamnen will provide Malmö with 9000new homes and if 25% of these would be tenancies with reasonable rents, it would be2250 affordable tenancies. To accomplish that strategy in Nyhamnen, cooperationbetween developers, architects, officials, the municipality of Malmö, politicians, andthe Swedish state has to take place.

Sindmark Hörnfeldt, David January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine the cultural policies of the New Labour government led by Tony Blair. This is achieved by looking at the study All Our Futures, presented in 1999, and the speech by Tony Blair in 2007 at the Tate Museum in London. The study also uses Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimers term “cultural industries”, John Fiskes “social reader” and the development of humanistic psychology to contextulize those policies, along with perspectives on the welfare state after World War II and the development of what is called New Public Management. As a last tool it uses the rationales Dorte Skot-Hansen used to analyze the development of nordic cultural policies, along with the view of art as “l’art pour l’art”, art for its own sake. The conclusion is that the New Labour government made cultural policies for the sake of social development and economic growth, not for the sake of art.

Sedimentations : reading genre, reading across genre

Abrahams, Shathley Q January 2002 (has links)
Bibliography: leaves 69-73. / This thesis argues for, citing the example of four novels published at or near to the millennium, the establishment of antirely new genre. But implicit in this is an investigstion into what is meant by term 'genre'. Further the nature of these novels makes central the way in which these novels should be grouped over the grouping itself.

Wattman, Katarina January 2020 (has links)
This essay has been written with the aim to investigate how the cultural-historical environments and ancient monuments in Nacka county (southeast of Stockholm, Sweden) are being cared for regarding proactive measures to conteract the negative effects climate change will have on them. The essay also investigates what the Swedish laws and regulations demand of counties concerning proactive and reactive measures against negative climate change effects on cultural-historical environments and ancient monuments and how climate change will affect Nacka county and its cultural-historical environments and ancient monuments. The investigation has been carried out by means of literature studies and one interview during May-July 2020.The investigation shows that Nacka county has general plans for their routine care for the cultural-historical environments and ancient monuments, but there are no plans or proactive measures taken to prevent or mitigate the negative effects of climate change.

“Why am I even listening to you to begin with? You’re a virgin who can’t drive.”

Tengelin, Julia January 2021 (has links)

Hellman, Olivia, Milakovic-Bauer, Karuna January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine how the female character Wednesday Addams in the Netflix-series Wednesday is portrayed and if her character reproduces or breaks norms for femininity. Furthermore, the thesis examines which myths and stereotypes are being embodied through Wednesday. The thesis is structured through a case study design and uses semiotic analysis as a method. With the help of the semiotic tools denotation and connotation, 8 episodes of the Netflix-series were analyzed, looking at semiotic resources like attributes, posing, gaze and color. The study relies on a theoretical framework consisting of semiotics, gender theory and various theoretical concepts, such as myths, the gender contract, the performative gender, male gaze, respectability, heteronormativity and stereotypes. The result demonstrates that the Netflix-series Wednesday has made Wednesday's character visible through a femininity that is allowed to be both norm-breaking and normative. Wednesday shows that she is flexible in her representation as a woman. Instead of regarding Wednesdayas an opposite to the male, and what separates her from everyone else, one can argue that her character is questioning and problematizing how a woman should be.
