Diploma thesis called Josef Čapek (monographic study)focuses on Josef Čapek's literary discourse. On the one hand it deals with the meanings of topics and motives, which were crucial for Čapek's writing in the relation with the whole author's work, on the other one it concentrates on formal characteristics of Čapek's literary language. Thesis also attempts to answer the question whether Josef Čapek followed contemporary literary tendencies or whether his works differed and if they did, then how. The relationship between Čapek's writing and paintings is also important, therefore the thesis examines whether his painting activity somehow reflected in or even directly influenced his literary works. The whole thesis is divided into eight chapters, by which we suggest to structure also whole Josef Čapek's literary work itself into eight periods and areas. Bibliography, mapping published first editions of his texts, reception and reflection of his literary works, paintings and his own personality, is also important part of the thesis.

The work aims to analyse and interpret the Czech satirical output of the second half of the 19th century considering the so called Parnassianism. Following the work Concepts of Satire in the National Revival Literature, the first part introduces the genre of satire, its origination and forming during the literary history, then the concept of Parnassianism is worked out together with its current state of research. In the second part, the initial premises are confronted with the results of the studies of the particular works in which the poetics and the literary genre are implemented. The attention is paid to the pieces written by S. Čech: poems Evropa, Hanuman and Šotek and three prosaic texts with the main character called Matěj Brouček - Pravý výlet pana Broučka do Měsíce, Nový epochální výlet pana Broučka, tentokráte do XV. století and Matěj Brouček na výstavě.

Disertation ``The work of poets from the group around Kamil Bednář{\crqq} deals with a group of writers, which formed between 1930s and 1940s around the mentioned poet, who was considered to be the spokesman of his generation, which was labelled as ``protectoral{\crqq}. The author will try to explain the historical background of this group`s work in the context of Czech literature of the 1940s. The author will also study the crisis of this group during World War II, its gradual decline in the post-war period and its definite end after the takeover in February in 1948. The author will be concerned only with those poets, and their poetic and theoretical work, who became involved in the discussion about the young generation and its poetry. The author will try to clarify the idea and the conception of {\clqq}naked human``, which implied, that it may be considered to be the program of young arrtists, or, at least, to be their mutual base. The author will mainly focus on three most interesting poets {--} Kamil Bednář, Hanuš Bonn and first of all, Jiří Orten. The author will take notice of the similarities, differences and also the existential phenomena, which are usually connected with the group around Kamil Bednář. Jiří Orten will appear to be the most tallented , the most inspirative and probably also the closest to philospophical existentialism. There are special chapters devoted to Jarní almanach básnický (Spring poetic almanac), which is a generational performance of young poets; Kritický měsíčník (Critical monthly) {--} a magazine, edited by Václav Černý, which provided space for the poets around Kamil Bednář and Ohnice (White Charlock) , which was the last act of the fading group. The author will also mention briefly the penetration of existentialism to Bohemia.

ANNOTATION This submitted thesis is to record the picture of World War I in fiction comparing Czech and Austrian literature. Connections are supposed to be based on historical- cultural contacts and close geographical vicinity in both conceptions. A comparative study of the representative texts which relate to a specific key stage of common history should confirm or doubt these connections. In the introduction the reality of the war conflict, its main consequences and the concrete situation in Bohemian countries is outlined, which serves the purpose of depicting of the atmosphere of the period and simultaneously better understanding of the meaning of literature works. Subsequently the list of basic texts which became the firm part of the common knowledge of given problems is created and at the same time the aspect of the common thematic units is pointed out. And finally two key works of both national branches of literature were chosen and compared analytically. Both principal themes - the attitude towards war, and main motive complexes and the general way of narration are emphasized. The aim of the thesis is not to present the complete list of works dealing with war but to confront literature depiction of the war in Austria and Bohemia from comparable points of view.

The goal of the work advanced is to examine the problems of the Czech literary decadence, the term itself and the possible limits of its use. As a basic material we investigate a corpus of texts belonging mainly to the short story genre, also paying attention to the model of a decadent novel and being interested in the most significant decadent features. The problems of literary decadence do not belong to profoundly explored topics in the history of the Czech literature, incidentally conditioned by the preference of the symbolist and decadent poetry. That is why this work was to present some texts themselves, potentially representative for the model of a decadent short story genre and of certain artistic value. The text of this work consists of three main parts. The first presents the possibilities of progressive insight into the topic, its cultural and philosophical context, showing two model novels (Huysmans{\crq} A Rebours and Wilde{\crq}s The Picture of Dorian Gray) as different but relevant types of the decadent living scheme, the specific conception of life and the role of art in it. The second part applies several theoretical questions onto the topic, constructing the form. In the final part more than two tens of original Czech short stories are concerned and the thematic composition analysed, that at least some questions asked in the previous parts could be answered and certain theses postulated proved.

The present thesis investigates book translations of Czech literature into Spanish published in Argentina in the 20th and early 21st centuries. The theoretical part addresses indirect translation in combination with intralingual translation (translation between Peninsular Spanish and Argentinian Spanish), book translation for the Spanish-speaking market and Translator studies. The methodology draws upon historiographic research, critical discourse analysis of paratexts and oral history. The empirical part outlines the censorship of Czech literature, provides comprehensive information on the translations published in Argentina including information on translators, describes the life and work of Helena Voldan and delineates the reception of Notes from the Gallows by Julius Fučík in Argentina. The collected data is then analysed from various points of view (e.g. genre, source text language, distribution from Spain, year of publication of the original and translation). This Thesis discusses the mapping and documentation of the folklore of Moravian Slovakia and traditional folk culture in collections of the Museum of Czech Literature. The collections of this culture government organization have never been researched from this point of view before. The thesis findings reveal that a great number of archives oriented on folkloric rich ethnographic region of Moravian Slovakia have been found in the collections of the Museum of Czech Literature, specifically in the three following departments of the museum: Literary Archive, Art Collections, and Library. The vast majority of the found materials come from the 19th century and first half of the 20th century. The archives are composed of a wide range of materials, such as manuscripts, typescripts, photography, cuttings, printings, drawings, lithography, graphics, sculptures, paintings, publications, periodicals, bibliophile books. The found materials belong to the traditional folk culture, as far as high art and culture. The outcome of this study is a proposal for the exhibition project Slovácko! which is intended to illustrate possible ways how to propagate and present the explored artifacts and archive materials from the collections. Drafts of financial sources, staffing, concept of the exhibition and graphic solution of some promotional designs are included in the proposal.

(English): The dissertation analyses the literature of subculture of tramping, its peculiarity and impact on Czech society during the era of the so called first republic. It deals with significant turning points of the genesis of this cultural phenomenon and utilizes them for the text interpretation. It also strives to express different possibilities of reception of its literature which germinated from tramping.

This thesis deals with the translations of Czech prose published in the 1970s and 1980s by Volk und Welt, the second largest publishing house in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Using the publisher's and other paratexts, the empirical research aims to reconstruct the image of Czech literature that Volk und Welt helped to create. The issue under scrutiny draws methodological as well as theoretical inspiration from Anton Popovič, the Slovak translation scholar who inter alia postulated a theory of metatexts, André Lefevere and the Manipulation School, as well as Gérard Genette, who came up with a theory of paratexts. The publishing activities of Volk und Welt are painted against a broad political and cultural background. By analysing the publisher's reviews, required for the books to be approved for circulation in the GDR, as well as by dissecting other paratexts, the author uncovers strategies whereby the selected books of Czech literature found their way both to the reviewers and the general public.

My dissertation focuses on few selected First Republic travelogues and its authors who in their works reflected their own subjective relationship towards the Soviet Union in the first half of the 20th century. By the gradual assessment of the research questions that I define by my complex approach at the end of my dissertation I reach the conclusion that I outline in the introduction. The goal of my methodological research is to evaluate the ability of recognition and reflexion of selected intellectuals and their perception of reality of the Soviet regime in the span of two decades by analytical and comparative methods divided into six chapters. The thesis focuses on such topics as a theory of non-democratic regimes, ideas, contemporary history and literary history. The travelogue reports of choice are going to provide a picture of contemporary Soviet society that was idealized by some intellectuals who, unlike others, could not have seen through the illusion that the Soviet Union had created.
