Influence of Student Discipline Referrals on School Climate in a K-12 Urban Public School DistrictPhillips, Lori 01 January 2018 (has links)
Research indicates a connection between student discipline rates and school climate. In a large, urban K-12 public school district, student discipline concerns were increasing while school climate ratings were decreasing during the last few years. Guided by Bandura's social learning theory, the purpose of this ex post facto, causal-comparative study was to identify differences in teachers' perceptions of school climate, as measured by the New Teacher Project (TNTP) Insight Survey, between schools with high student discipline referral rates and schools with low student discipline referral rates in this school district. The study sample included 6,994 new and veteran certified teachers from N = 72 K-12 schools (n = 36 high discipline referral rate schools; n = 36 low discipline referral rate schools). Teachers' TNTP ratings for Spring 2014-2016 on the overall school climate index, learning environment, and school leadership scales were the dependent variables for the analyses. Independent samples t test results indicated significant differences in overall school climate index, as well as the learning environment and school leadership scales for schools with high compared to low discipline referral rates. Findings showed that schools with high student discipline referral rates had more negative climate ratings than schools with low student discipline referral rates across the three TNTP scales for these teachers. These outcomes suggest that school leaders may create positive social change by identifying and implementing effective strategies aimed at improving student behavior and responses to student discipline as one possible means for fostering a more positive school climate which benefits students, teachers, and staff alike.

The management of disciplinary measures in the Public Sector with reference to the Department of Agriculture in Limpopo ProvinceMatsetela, Samuel Dioka January 2005 (has links)
Thesis (MPA) --University of Limpopo, 2005 / Management of disciplinary measures is a delicate part of work programmes that
needs dedicated employees to handle. The personnel should be provided with acts,
rules and regulations, codes and work procedures to serve as guidelines during their
execution of their duties. In this research work, the participating workers indicated
some perceptions that could contribute towards poor service delivery, which include
tribalism, ethnicity etc. The Department of Agriculture should eliminate these
perceptions soon in order to achieve the set departmental goals. The personnel should
be encouraged to undergo various trainings so that they can be mentally empowered.
They should be exposed to libraries to get materials relevant to their work sphere.
Monitoring should be regular to ensure perfection within an institution. Employees
are of the opinion that training workshops are for specific group of workers and that
they are treated inequitably by the institution. Their future efforts are then
demoralized. Knowledge acquired from various literatures should be implemented
practically. The management and supervisors can gain knowledge about the various
disciplinary approaches such as supportive approach; disciplinary policy, which
indicates the steps to be followed when applying the disciplinary measures;
disciplinary system like the designing of a disciplinary action; and the techniques
such as the analyzing of the written institutional records and statement of discipline
related rules and procedures. All employees within an institution should take
discipline as reformative. Supervisors should where possible react positively in order
to bring balance between the workers and the employer. The treatment of employees
should develop positive attitudes such as the desire to work with, and not against,
their superiors. The data collected indicated that there are factors contributing towards
fair or unfair management of disciplinary measures. Good factors should be
encouraged and maintained whereas the negative ones should be addressed to avoid
delay in service delivery.

Discussion of Senior High School Students Violating the Correct Clothing Manners Discipline Stipulation: Examples in a Vocational High School in TainanChen, Bu-Chin 07 September 2011 (has links)
In the last few years, due to the process of students¡¦ political socialization and the promotion of campus democracy and feminism awareness, the management of the correct clothing manners discipline stipulation has become an important issue for the teachers of various schools to counsel and discipline their students. The goal of this research is to inquire into the reasons, the cognition and the motivation of students violating the correct clothing manners discipline stipulation. Also, according to the findings, I aim to propose specific suggestions to assist schools to establish suitable correct clothing manners discipline standards in order to provide teachers references to counsel and discipline their students¡¦ correct clothing manners. Moreover, I aim to promote the teachers¡¦ abilities to counsel and discipline their students and reduce the conflicts between students and teachers while dealing with correct clothing manners discipline management. The technique of this research is to carry out an in-depth interview, which adopts a Tainan senior vocational high school as the main subject and the students of special behavior opposing the correct clothing manners discipline as the interiewee objects. In this research, I discover that students who have different cognition and motivations towards the correct clothing manners discipline stipulation are obviously different in their correct clothing manners discipline behavior. The cognition towards the correct clothing manners discipline stipulation, the motivation towards the correct clothing manners discipline stipulation and the correct clothing manners discipline behavior are all closely related. As for the motivation towards the correct clothing manners discipline stipulation, there is a tangible intermediary effect between the cognition and the correct clothing manners discipline behavior.
