This research aims to understand the relationship built and broken between Dutch, Portuguese and Congolese in the period from 1600 to 1650, paying more attention to the political and religious aspect of these relationships. For such, it was important to understand how the identities of local lords, especially the Congo and mani Dream, were built through the disputes waged and how the discourses and practices possessed huge differences according to the interests and situations. His changes of political positions, their making and unmaking alliances against the Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian are important points of the research and are seen as contradictions in social relations. Categories such as Catholics, pagan and heretic had enormous importance and were managed according the requirements of each situation. It was precisely these situations that imposed identity discourses and practices – sometimes seemingly contradictory – that stood out during the research and which were the focus of this work
