Scientific papers, thesis and dissertations become available digitally, but make them accessible to the user requires an understanding of the indexing process, which is usually made manually. This work proposes an experiment on the feasibility of automatically identify valid descriptors for the documents in the field of health. Are extracted n-grams of the texts and, after comparison with terms of vocabulary Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS), are identified those who can act as descriptors for the works. We believe that this process can be applied to classification of document sets with deficiencies in their indexing and, even, in supporting the re-indexing processes, improving the precision and recall of the searches, and the possibility of establishing metrics of relevance. / Com o objetivo de atender às demandas de saúde da população, uma quantidade enorme de publicações são geradas a cada ano. Artigos científicos, teses e dissertações tornam-se digitalmente disponíveis, mas torná-los acessíveis aos usuário exige a compreensão do processo de indexação, que em geral é feito manualmente. O presente trabalho propõe um experimento sobre a viabilidade de identificar automaticamente descritores válidos para documentos do campo da saúde. São extraídos n-grams dos textos e, após comparação com termos do vocabulário Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS), são identificados aqueles que podem atuar como descritores para as obras. Acreditamos que este processo pode ser aplicado na classificação de conjuntos de documentos com deficiências na indexação e, até mesmo, no apoio a processos de reindexação, melhorando a precisão e a revocação das buscas, além da possibilidade de estabelecer métricas de relevância.

Quando a linguagem documentária não oferece compatibilidade com a linguagem de busca do usuário, compromete a qualidade da pesquisa realizada e a credibilidade do Sistema de Informação quanto à sua eficácia na recuperação da informação documentária e satisfação do usuário. Dessa maneira, a proposição é avaliar, por meio da observação do usuário, a linguagem documentária DeCS - Descritores em Ciências da Saúde, utilizada para a recuperação da informação no sistema LILACS (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde), com o intuito de obter indicadores para delinear as estratégias de aprimoramento da linguagem na área de Fonoaudiologia. Para avaliação dessa linguagem empregou-se a técnica do protocolo verbal ou pensar alto (thinking aloud), tendo como sujeitos pesquisadores do Departamento de Fonoaudiologia da Faculdade de Odontologia de Bauru da Universidade de São Paulo - FOB-USP. A aplicação dessa técnica foi realizada no próprio ambiente de trabalho dos sujeitos, tendo sido verificado, anteriormente, o conhecimento de cada um deles no acesso ao sistema LILACS, bem como na utilização da linguagem DeCS. A partir de então, foram selecionados quatro sujeitos representantes das quatro especialidades formadoras da área de Fonoaudiologia: Linguagem, Voz, Motricidade Oral e Audiologia, e observados, com protocolo verbal, na tarefa de realizar a recuperação de informações, no campo de descritor de assunto da interface de busca da base de dados LILACS... . / The Indexing language, a mediator tool of the indexing information between the information system and the user, plays a crucial role in the access to information, providing a satisfaction in information retrieval and, thus, the generation of scientific knowledge which adds to the welfare of society. Hen the indexing language is not compatible with the userþs search language, it jeopardizes the quality of the research performed and the credibility of the information system as to its efficacy in retrieving indexing information and the userþs satisfaction. Therefore, the proposition is to assess, by observing the user, the DeCS - Health Sciences Descriptors indexing language, utilized for the retrieval of information in the LILACS system (LILACS - Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences), aiming at obtaining indicators to outline strategies to improve the language in the field of Speech- Language Pathology and Audiology. The verbal protocol technique (thinking aloud) was utilized to evaluate this language, having as subjects, researchers of the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Department at the Dental School - University of São Paulo - FOB-USP, at Bauru, SP. This technique has been applied in the subjectsþ own working environment, being their knowledge on the access to LILACS system as well as the use of DeCS language previously verified. Then, four subjects representing the four forming specialties in the area of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, i.e., Language, Voice, Oral Motricity and Audiology were selected and observed, with the verbal protocol, in the task of performing information retrieval, in the field of subject descriptor of the search interface of LILACS database...
