Mariano, Marcos January 2015 (has links)
Abstract: This study develops a comparative analysis about the political coverage of the work of CPIs (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) from Paraná's Legislative Assembly - Health Insurance CPI, Mobile Telephony CPI and Tolls CPI -, along the year of 2013, held by ALEP's press consultancy, compared to the daily newspaper Metro and RPC TV's newscasts, relativizing the concept of Thompson's (2002) political media scandal. Referencing the perspective of the framework, understood as a central organizing idea, the investigation sought to identify media mechanisms of political coverage administration, especially the dynamics of the presentation of the symbolical fight held during such episodes and the participation of information sources on the coverage. To orient the evaluation of newcast, the research employs descriptive contents of the technique with the intention of checking that resembles and distance of the vehicles studied. One hypothesis is the form of CPI approach to the subject by the media chosen for the research and the other the (in)visibility of regional coverage compared to the national CPIs. As the result, the research can prove that the traditional media contributes to the (in)visibility when broadcasting the official sources while there were no major supervision, from the opposing groups, on the work of the studied CPIs. Keywords: Coverage policy; ALEP's CPIs; Visibility; Comparative Analysis.

Abstract: Airline sector has grown in recent years in Brazil. An increase in the number of people flying assumes a rise of passengers with special needs (PWSNs) as well. People with disabilities represent a significant portion of the population, and thereby they have the rights to access services with dignity, including air transport as any citizen. This research addresses the flying experience of people with physical disability or reduced mobility in the aircraft cabin in Brazil. Theoretical data were collected through a documentary research in rules and laws that governing the sector, and Unsystematic and Integrative literature reviews in researches about this theme. Field study was the method used to empirical data collection. Through an observation in context, with two groups of disabled people, was possible to know their daily difficulties. Through interviews and a route accompanied on flights were identified difficulties and needs of each air travel stage, principally inside the cabin. To verify the suitability of the air transport system, questionnaires were applied to aircraft manufacturers and it were performed evaluations in the most commonly used aircrafts by the Brazilian airlines. From the theoretical and empirical data analysis, accessibility critical factors were identified and improvement suggestions were proposed people needs and the configuration of the aircraft used on domestic flights. It has been found that reduced space, mainly in the aisle and toilets, harms PWSNs comfort and independence. It was verified that there are failures in the regulation of those items. It was concluded that, to improve accessibility, changes in aircraft configuration are required, and that these changes will only be implemented if they are included in the legislation. Acessibilidade. Imagem tátil. Cegos. / Abstract: The accessibility of images presented in learning objects for people with visual impairment occurs with the aid of assistive technologies such as audio description and alternative text, but how far images could be described keeping its structure and facilitating the acquisition of information? Thus, this thesis aims to identify the graphic features that a tactile image must have to be accessible to blind people. The study starts with a literature review, to check the state of the art, identifying what has been and is being studied associated with the existing accessibility guidelines to digital and tactile images, from which was proposed a graphical analysis instrument to be applied on the analytical study. The aim of the analytical study was to review tactile images from a repository of learning objects, identifying its trend. After this study, a research with developers and educators was carried out with the purpose to verify if the tendency of the graphic features found in the analytical study is perceptible to blind people from experts' point of view. With the results, the analytical framework was improved. It was concluded that it was possible to identify the graphical syntax of tactile pictures from the literature adopted and presented in the analytical framework . Finally we pointed up the need of future studies to validate the framework to develop tactile images. Keywords: Graphical syntax. Accessibility. Tactile image. Blind.

Supporting Self-Experimentation of Behavior Change Strategies

January 2016 (has links)
abstract: Desirable outcomes such as health and wellbeing are tightly linked to people’s behaviors, thus inspiring research on technologies that support productively changing those behaviors. Many behavior change technologies are designed by Human-Computer Interaction experts, but this approach makes it difficult to personalize support to each user’s unique goals and needs. As an alternative to the provision of expert-developed pre-fabricated behavior change solutions, the present study aims to empower users’ self-experimentation for behavior change. To this end, two levels of supports were explored. First, the provision of interactive digital materials to support users’ creation of behavioral plans was developed. In the initial step, a tutorial for self-experimentation for behavior change that was fully scripted with images in succession was created. The tutorial focuses on facilitating users’ learning and applying behavior change techniques. Second, users were equipped with a tool to support their implementation of context-aware just-in-time interventions. This tool enables prototyping of sensor-based responsive systems for home environments, integrating simple sensors (two-state magnetic sensors, etc.) and media event components (wireless sound, etc.). To evaluate the effectiveness of these two approaches, a between-subject trial comparing the approaches to a sleep education control was conducted with 27 participants over 7 weeks. Although results did not reveal significant difference in sleep quality improvement between the conditions, trends indicating greater effectiveness in the two treatment groups were observed. Analysis of the plans participants created and their revision performance also indicated that the two treatment groups developed more specific and personalized plans compared with the control group. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Media Arts and Sciences 2016

How Much Medical Practitioners Are Willing To Use Online Diabetes Management Service? A Feasibility Study For A Medical Service Design

January 2018 (has links)
abstract: Diabetes is becoming a serious problem in China. At the same time, China’s medical system has faced a difficult situation because of the lack of medical resources and the unequal medical resource distribution between the BHs and BLHs. BH doctors are tremendously busy with both serious and minor illnesses while BLH medical providers are worried about a sufficient source of patients. This study aims to find the potential feasibility of a new service model in managing diabetes which will solve these medical problems. The study was conducted using an extensive literature review in addition to employing an interview and survey method to explore the perception and current situation in workload and income of medical providers from one BH and one BLH in China. Furthermore, this study tried to understand the acceptance of online medical technology in these medical provider groups. The results showed that doctors in the BH do not have the time needed to engage in extra work. This population is not satisfied with their work responsibilities and income structure. They want to engage in diagnosing and prescribing tasks, with respect to diabetes management. They would like to distribute the management work to BLH. On the other hand, medical providers in BLH have extra time and enthusiasm in doing extra work to improve their income. They are not satisfied with their workload and income, and want to change it. BLHs are willing to do the management work assisting the BH doctors. Additionally, the study showed that online medical technology requires a broader user education for medical providers from both big and BLHs. The conclusion can be summarized as design research advice for future service design in healthcare management. The proposed online medical service should meet different level medical providers' position and requirements regarding time, payment, and value. BH doctors are more suitable for diagnosing and prescribing and BLH medical providers are more suitable for follow-up service. This service should reflect the value of the BH doctors' professional service and the value of BLH medical providers' health management service. Bridge DNA

Chang, Hung Yuan 01 June 2018 (has links)

This thesis work centers on the relationship between bridge structure, construction methods and timberwork, coming from the processes of design and manufacturing. In this thesis, I intend to discover and develop different characteristics of different structures and materials and create works that are visually powerful using different visual languages. I began to learn about bridge design after I started working full time after graduating from university. During that period I was involved in the creation of several bridge designs and obtained experience as a builder. The bridge that I helped to design and build during that period is still one of the largest and most important works for me. Since the experience was so influential I planned to apply that exceptional experience in designing furniture and creating unique works in my graduate program.

In my work, the process of research and design is as follows: 1. Start with the foundations of bridge structure. 2. Ensure reasonable structure is embedded into design. 3. Receive feedback, determine problems and limitations. 4. Continue designing and find the best ways to settle problems and address limitations. 5. Develop structural forms and apply them to the next projects.

Through my thesis work, I carried out interactive creation through observing, investigating and probing the possibilities of applying different bridge structures to the building of furniture.

Pachioni, Miguel Sgarbi January 2014 (has links)
Orientadora: Profª. Drª. / Abstract: This work is the result of the reflection on the meaning of cultural heritage and its recognition present in the daily lives of students from public schools in Curitiba/PR. Therefore, the research intends to reveal whether what is considered a cultural heritage of a given neighborhood comes from the imposition of outside references or from their own daily experiences of the context they belong in. The aim is to elucidate whether the cultural references mentioned by the students are connected or not with the reproductive perspective of symbolic violence and if there are evidences of the cultural hegemony that delimits the features of monuments and the lack of belonging when thinking about cultural heritages. Based on references of cultural studies associated to the mediation theory, the research methods used were mixed: content analysis, participant observation during an educommunication workshop in two schools and focal group. The hypothesis was that the critical sense of the students was undervalued because their everyday experiences is not considered as a part of a culture that composes them but that they also compose. Moreover, through the educommunication workshop, the aim was to analyze in which way the students collectively build their justification about what makes a cultural heritage. The results can contribute to a deeper reflection about the possible interaction and the existent distancing between knowledge constructions, the appropriation of cultural references and the recognition of identities, which, inserted in the fragmented context of modernity, show themselves transient in the process in which the act of communication gets confused with the necessity of social (re)cognition. Palavras-chave: Cultural heritage. Social communication. Identities. Educomunication. Simbolic referencial.

Ferro, Gláucia de Salles January 2014 (has links)
Abstract: In a franchise network, the franchisor-franchisee relationship, involves, among other demands, the transfer of know-how and the scope of the continuous improvement of business operations. In this context, management practices aimed at a long-term collaborative process are desirable. At the same time, the complex operational processes to make creative solutions to solving for routine challenges cease to be encouraged. Thus, this dissertation investigates, through exploratory research and Appreciative Inquiry, such as Design Thinking can contribute to the improvement of collaboration between franchisor and franchisees. Apreciação musical em crianças com deficiência intelectual

Raby, Melody Lynn Falco January 2015 (has links)
Orientadora: Profª. Drª. / Abstract: This research investigated the education of children with intellectual disabilities through audience-listening of music. This work adopted the definition of "audience-listening" as the "process of signification in music" (Barbosa, 2005, 2009; Waslawick, Camargo & Maheirie, 2007), including some discussions over the objectives of musical education (Fonterrada, 2008; Penna, 2004; Benedetti & Kerr, 2010). The conceptions of development and learning followed the theoretical approach of cultural-historical Psychology, represented specially by Vigotski (1998; 2007; 2009). The specific goals of the research were: (i) to identify and classify the answers given by the children (and the words and terms used by them); (ii) to study the learning process of perception of the musical harmonic elements; (iii) to analyse the relationship between the audience-listening and the abilities of perception, discrimination and construction of musical concepts. The selected method was the "action research" (Gil, 2008; Thiollent, 1986; Albino & Lima, 2009) i.e., the researcher and the children were all involved in the research process at all times. The children participated in the musical activities, being subject of intervention and mediation between them, and from the researcher as well, so that the learning processes could be identified. The children were students of public schools in the city of São José dos Pinhais (located in the metropolitan area of Curitiba), and they were divided into two groups: children with intellectual disabilities and children considered to be in regular development. Data was collected both in group sessions as well as in individual evaluation sessions, performed before and after the interventions. There was no comparative study between the groups. The data analysis was organized from the transcription of the individual evaluation sessions, the observations of group sessions, and also from the field notes. The theoretical background for the data analysis was qualitative. The results suggested the possibility of educating children with intellectual disabilities using audience-listening and thus showing that they are able to perceive, comprehend and apprehend the tasks and the musical harmonic elements. In conclusion, the use of audience-listening as a form of education for children with intellectual disabilities may represent a concrete contribution to their development since it values the construction of significations and respects the children's potential for learning, at the same time granting them access to the socially constructed musical knowledge. Key words: Musical education, Audience listening, Intellectual disability, cultural-historical Psychology.

Bressani, Valdecir January 2015 (has links)
Abstract: The formation of future priests for communication is one of the important themes for the Catholic Church in Brazil and the world. The objective of this study was to discuss the importance of communication and its variables in the training process of future priests in the Catholic Church in Brazil. Parallel to this process, we worked out how to understand the thinking of the Catholic Church and how it develops the formation of priests in the communication field, looking at the media coverage of the process of the present society. The priest is, by letter of strength, a communicator in the sacred space. He is an important social agent of communication and therefore requires preparation and training that enables him to contribute to the dialogue between the Christian Faith and contemporary culture, which is increasingly mediated. This paper presents an analysis of the main documents of the Catholic Church since 1936, dealing with training for communication beyond an analysis of Matrix Course of the 60 philosophy courses and 58 theology courses, present in 18 regional groups of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB). It starts with the hypothesis that the training in communication is not still a priority in the curriculum of philosophy and theology, and notes the absence of an educational policy that includes training for the current challenges arising from an increasingly mediated society. The theoretical framework takes into account the very communicative mind of the Church, added to the current critical thoughts of the authors that deal with the discussion of the mediatory process of society and of religion, and also of media culture concepts and the understanding of the influences of digital and connective technologies in relation to the way of thinking and living the Christian Faith. Key-words: Communication. Formation Presbyteri. Education. Curriculum.
