Reliable and Secure Geocasting in VANETsPrado Bernia, Antonio 19 September 2012 (has links)
Current geocasting algorithms for VANETs are being designed to enable either private or reliable communications, but not both. Existing algorithms preserve privacy by minimizing the information used for routing, and sacrifice message delivery success. On the other hand, reliable protocols often store node information that can be used to compromise a vehicle's privacy. We have designed two private and reliable geocasting protocols for VANETs that ensure confidentiality. One is a probabilistic algorithm that uses direction-based dissemination, while the other is a deterministic algorithm that uses transmission-coverage dissemination. To preserve privacy, we create unlinkable and pseudonymous channels of communication with geocasting. For encryption and authentication, we use a public key technique. Our probabilistic forwarding model depends on message rate and cumulative payload, as well as the value of the angle of spreading of the direction-based scheme. To reduce message duplication, we apply dynamic traffic restriction and probabilistic forwarding techniques. The deterministic forwarding algorithm delays forwarding messages based on its uncovered transmission area after neighbouring nodes have broadcast the message. We prove that both algorithms ensure node privacy with appropriate message encryption security, and we ran simulations to demonstrate that both meet the message delivery requirements. From the gathered data, we observe that both algorithms behave differently depending on the scenario, with node density affecting the deterministic algorithm, while the angle of spreading does have a significant impact on the probabilistic protocol.

"Disney is the Tiffany's and I am the Woolworth's of the business" : a critical re-analysis of the business philosophies, production values and studio practices of animator-producer Paul Houlton TerryHamonic, Wynn Gerald January 2011 (has links)
Animator-producer Paul Houlton Terry has been portrayed as having little passion for the animation he produced and being more concerned with making a profit than producing entertaining cartoons with high production values. The purpose of the dissertation is to re-evaluate Terry‘s legacy to animated cartooning by analyzing his business philosophies, production values, and studio practices. Application of four psychodynamic factors to the early life and career of Terry, 1887-1929, found that his economic decision making was characterized by: an external locus of control, risk-averse financial behaviour, extreme saving behaviour through precaution, and shrewd money management practices. Based on Terry‘s historical responses to twelve major economic, technological, or institutional forces of change for the period 1929-1955, the psychodynamic factors were found to provide accurate explanations for his studio practices and production decisions. There was no evidence to support the conclusion that three early career disappointments undermined Terry‘s intrinsic motivation to create animated cartoons. Rather, Terry‘s lack of risk taking, external locus of control, tight studio production schedule, desire to compete with neighbour studio Fleischer, difficulty in separating financial rewards from creative processes in animation, and practice of undertaking surveillance measures on staff may have undermined his and his studio‘s creativity. Archival research found Terry to possess strong passions for and to have made significant creative contributions to the field of animation. Biographical research found that Terry retained a stable nucleus of highly talented artists who dedicated a significant portion of their working careers to the studio. An analysis of the cel aesthetics of a random sample of animated cartoons produced during the years 1930-1955 found that Terry created animated cartoons with above average cel aesthetics when compared to the other studios thereby supporting an inference that Terry was motivated to producing quality crafted animation. Further research is suggested into the role psychodynamic factors and economic decision-making play in the film production process and a clarification of Terry‘s legacy to the field of animated cartoons.

La Direction Marketing stratégique comme vecteur de resserrement du lien marketing - stratégie dans l'organisation : l'étude du cas LaSer-Cofinoga / Strategic marketing department as an integration tool of marketing and strategy in the organization : the case study of laSer-CofinogaKoleva, Valentina 23 June 2011 (has links)
This doctoral research aims to clarify the contribution of the marketing function to corporate strategy. We want to uncover the link between these two fields - marketing and strategy, in the specific context of a company having a strategic marketing department. We bring together the theory of marketing-strategy interface and the contributions of cognitive science, in order to propose an integrative theoretical framework centered on the notion of managerial cognition. From a methodological point of view, the consistency between our research question, the available data and the nature of the phenomenon, led us to adopt a qualitative research approach. We chose a single case study combined with a participant observation as a method of data collection and analysis. Our research has highlighted the emergence of three successive types of mental models of marketing-strategy interface, the factor that influence their transformation and their consequences. To conclude, our results allows us to enrich the initial theoretical framework by some emergent themes relative to the architecture of marketing activities, the corporate culture, the organizational learning and the role of the marketing manager.

A Microwave Direction of Arrival Estimation Technique Using a Single AntennaYu, Xiaoju, Zhou, Rongguo, Zhang, Hualiang, Xin, Hao 07 1900 (has links)
A direction of arrival (DoA) estimation technique for broadband microwave signals is proposed using a single ultrawideband antenna. It is inspired by the sound source localization ability of a human auditory system using just one ear (monaural localization). By exploiting the incident angle-dependent frequency response of a wideband antenna, the DoA of a broadband microwave signal can be estimated. The DoA estimation accuracies are evaluated for two antenna configurations and microwave signals with different signal-to-noise ratios. Encouraging the DoA estimation performance of the proposed technique is demonstrated in both simulation and experiment.

A procedure is described, which has been developed within the framework of a project for the Bundeswehr. This method provides a relatively simple way to include meteorological influences on the sound propagation for forecasting sound immission. Therefore, at first, different meteorological situations (differentiation regarding temperature, wind speed, wind direction) have been classified. For the different classes the spatial distribution attenuation of sound level have been calculated using a model of sound propagation SMART (Sound propagation model of the atmosphere using ray-tracing). The results are stored in a database. The analysis and evaluation of this forecasts as well as the access to the database is realized using the visualization tool MetaVIS (Meteorological attenuation visualization). Therewith fast forecasts of sound immission for present
meteorological situations are enabled. Moreover, with this procedure a regionalization of an entire territory in areas with a similar sound climatology is possible. Such an estimation has been done by analysing maps of sound level attenuation for different atmospheric structures. As a result, a map for restructuring the consulting areas of the Bundeswehr, considering meteorological influences on the sound propagation, could be acquired.
