In the Federal Institutions of higher education, this process has not been different. The creation of a national politics of archives that determines to be duty of the Public Authorities the management of documents comes contributing gradually for the change of that setting. This research sought to analyze the deployment process of the bases of the management of documents in the Paraiba Federal University, from the actions developed by the Permanent commission of Document Evaluation. It argued definitions, objects and approaches of the Archival science and the Science of the Information. It presented of general form document archive concepts, archive and archival information. It was characterized as a descriptive and exploratory research, with quantitative and qualitative approaches; having the case study as strategy and did use as instruments of collects of data: interviews and questionnaires. It was found through this research, the absence of actions directed toward an effective management of the documents in the current archives, as also, the emergent need of implementation of policies institutional archival. / A gestão de documentos arquivísticos tem se apresentado como um grande desafio para as Instituições Públicas. Nas Instituições Federais de Ensino Superior, esse processo não tem sido diferente. A criação de uma política nacional de arquivos que determina ser dever do Poder Público a gestão de documentos vem contribuindo, de forma gradativa, para a mudança desse cenário. Esta pesquisa buscou analisar o processo de implantação das bases da Gestão de Documentos na Universidade Federal da Paraíba, a partir das ações desenvolvidas pela Comissão Permanente de Avaliação de Documentos. Discutiu definições, objetos e abordagens da Arquivologia e da Ciência da Informação. Apresentou, de forma geral, conceitos de documento de arquivo, arquivo e informação arquivística. Caracterizou-se como uma pesquisa exploratória e descritiva, com abordagens qualitativas e quantitativas; tendo o estudo de caso como estratégia, e utilizou, como instrumentos de coleta de dados, entrevistas e questionários. Constatou-se, por meio desta pesquisa, a ausência de ações voltadas para uma efetiva Gestão de Documentos nos arquivos correntes, como também a necessidade emergente de implementação de políticas arquivísticas institucionais.
