Vad kan denna glömda och tidigare så viktiga funktion inom arkitektur lära oss idag? Ett försök att närma sig och förstå vad tradition och historia spelar för roll idag i ett annars eklektiskt tidevarv och ansluta till den pågående diskursen om vikten av en kontinuitet. Mötet mellan de nya tekniska och rationella lösningarna och konventioner blir intressant för diskussionen om en byggnad vars innehåll kämpar med detta möte. Å ena sidan denna fabrik, ett av moderniseringsprocessens tidiga barn, som skulle göra döden rumsren. Å andra sidan en plats för avsked, en sista passage in till det nya tillståndet. Jag tror det finns ett behov av att utöka programmet till att låta byggnaden få en vidare funktion, en helig plats för minnen. Inte bara ett sista avsked eller ett praktiskt och rationellt maskineri. / Crematorium at the Northern Cemetery in Stockholm. A project focused on aesthetics and, after closer studies of Dom Hans van der Laan's architecture and writings, in a direction mainly towards proportional theory. What can this forgotten and so important function in Architecture teach us today? An attempt to approach and understand the role of tradition and history today in an overall eclectic era and connect to the ongoing discourse about the importance of continuity. The meeting between the new technical and rational solutions and conventions will be interesting for the discussion of a building whose contents are struggling with this encounter. On one hand, this factory, a child of the early process of modernisation, which would make death clean and sanitary. On the other hand, a place of farewell, a last passage into a new state. I think there is a need to expand the program to let the building get a further feature, a sacred place to memories. Not just a final farewell or a practical and rational machinery.
