A Series of Stairs : And the production of meaning through architectural research, architectural typology and architectural representationRundblad, Hilma January 2023 (has links)
Liminal spaces are broadly overlooked within spatial research but are no less significant as spaces in which emotions, identity and meaning might be embedded. Residential staircases are no exception. This paper examines the stair of residential buildings as liminal spaces, liminal spaces in this paper are defined as in-betweens and at the boundary of two or more dominant spaces. The aim is to highlight the significance of everyday lived experiences of space; notably, those spaces “on the margins and the relevance of tuning in to the in-betweens, through the lens of phenomenology particularly from a phenomenological perspective.

Slice of LifeLagerkvist, Carl January 2021 (has links)
An attempt to renegotiate the typology of a functionally separate administrative building by integrating the stacked infrastructure of movement built into the site and introducing new programs that are naturally occurring in Tensta in spite of the inflexible urban context. The building signifies a point of convergence between the different types of traffic and bridges between them, revealing latent connectivity and opening up for a gradual take-over of traffic systems as general patterns of behaviour change. The will to make the building an urban move stems from thoughts about the welfare state architecture as a continuous megastructure, including the subway, Systembolag, Folktandvården, and much more. The municipality building generally separates itself from this continuity, physically and in turn in the public’s perception of it. The goal was to investigate the implications when it comes to how a member of the public perceives a more municipality building that is more integrated in the urban fabric.

KÄRLEKSLJUSET - When children meet lightBuszka, Eva January 2010 (has links)
Small children are fascinated by light and like to play with it. As lighting designers weshould be aware of this natural enthusiasm and take advantage of it. Introducing thechildren to light carefully and providing them with lighting design that meets them, wehave the chance to advance the children´s interest so that it can develop to a highsensitivity to light until adulthood. In my thesis I present the light project that took place in many Swedish kindergartensin the past few years and that was started to introduce the children to light. I approachedthe topic by researching about the pedagogy the project is based on andanalizing the activities that it contains. By a vivid dialog with the kindergartenteachers, my own observation of the children and the study of documentation materialfrom the kindergarten I got to know about the children´s relation and approach tolight. Using this knowledge I was able to define some important factors to followdesigning light for children. One of those factors is the aim to offer an open, flexibleand variable lighting solution creating an environment that encourages the children tocontrol and to adjust the lighting. Another factor is the ambition to make lighting designthat encourages the children to find the perfect lighting situation on their own.Furthermore should the kindergarten be a place, where it is allowed to play with lightand where light plays a major part in the children's daily routines.

LINK A lighting design framework to assist the integration ofHistorical Urban Public Parks to modern city lifeDuan, Ran, Distaso, Alessandro January 2017 (has links)
Alessandro, as a person grew up in a historical city with a background in engineering, provides a solid understanding of this topic with a rational technical solution.Ran, coming from a rapid developing city with background in architecture, contributes better understanding of urban development and the connection between human and space. The different life experiences and backgrounds are an embodiment of the contradictions of an Historical Urban Public Park. From one side the historic elements and value of the park, from the other side a city life that moves fast at the speed of innovations. The dialogue between the authors represents the wish to harmonise the contradictions of the park and to project it to a possible future. This thesis work is the result of such dialogue. In this thesis the research is divided as:Alessandro: study of formal garden history, study of urban parks / open public spaces, Lighting regulations, Lighting technologies and Lighting history.Ran: Study of heritage Preservation, Study of psychology and perception of outdoor public space, Study of urban transformation, Lighting qualities and considerations. The case studies and lighting proposal are carried out by both.
