Throughout the history of music there have been numerous composers who were well-known in their lifetimes yet faded from public performance and memory after their deaths. Some were remembered many years later and became the most prominent composers in western music. Others did not receive any such resurgence of interest. Gabriel Dupont (1878-1914) was a rising star in French music when he passed away at the age of 36. His operas, piano music and songs were widely known during his life, but he was virtually forgotten by the end of the 20th century. Since around 2000, there has been a growing interest into the life and music of this figure. Dupont has become more well-known to French audiences but less so to audiences elsewhere. This project aims to change that and spread awareness of Dupont in the United States. The twenty-four mature piano pieces by Dupont are significant contributions to French piano music and deserve such a recognition. This thesis is in two parts: 1) a complete studio recording of Dupont's piano music, including the world premiere of two sets of pieces he wrote in his youth, and 2) an accompanying paper exploring the life and music of Dupont.

This thesis explores architecture's role as host and its relationship with guest through the research and design of a new youth hostel for Washington, D.C. The etymological duality of host is confronted in the project's structure, as well as its liminal spaces. This new hostel offers comfort, protection, affordable accommodation, learning opportunities, and moments of camaraderie to young guests of the nation's capital. / Master of Architecture

Both China and Taiwan have experienced impressive economic growth through rapid industrialization that has resulted in a higher standard of living for citizens on the one hand, but has come at the cost of severe environmental degradation on the other. One of the byproducts of this economic growth and accompanying environmental stress has been an increased awareness among citizens of their living environment. And this newfound environmental consciousness can be manifested through various forms of protest when concerned citizens feel that their rights have been infringed upon by either the government or an offending industry. This thesis is concerned chiefly with the evolution of environmental protests in China and Taiwan, and explores two specific cases that are examples of a classic NIMBY-style (not-in-my-back-yard) protest: the anti-DuPont movement in Lukang, Taiwan from 1986-87 and the anti-PX movement in Xiamen, China from 2006-07. Both events have been hailed as watersheds in their respective polities’ environmental movements because they represent improved public participation in environmental protection activities. Whereas reactive protests had been the norm before, the events in Lukang and Xiamen showed that preventive measures, taken before citizens’ environmental rights can be potentially violated, was and still is possible. What make these NIMBY protests all the more fascinating and worthy of further exploration are the respective political backdrops during which they occurred—in Taiwan before the lifting of martial law, and in China when mass demonstrations are seldom allowed to proceed. This thesis will explore the main components of the Lukang and Xiamen protests and conduct a comparative analysis of their organizations, the events that transpired, as well as the official responses with which they were met. It is hoped that this thesis shows how the events in Xiamen echo those from Lukang some twenty years before, and that it provides some insight into the expanding role of citizens in environmental protection activities in both China and Taiwan.

För att få en djupare förståelse för hur yta kan frigöras och användas har en studie genomförts på Villa VIDA som idag inte har tillräckligt med fri yta för kapacitetsökning. När nuläget analyserades kunde det konstateras att lagerbildningar på produktionsyta och ett måleri var det som hindrade företaget från att expandera. Baserat på det nuvarande läget genererades två alternativa layouter. I det ena förslaget valdes outsourcing av måleriet för att frigöra ännu mer yta och få plats med en kapacitetsökning på 50 % istället för 25 % som hade blivit resultatet om måleriet bevarats. Åtgärder som frigjorde yta innebar reducering av antal lagringspunkter och minskade orderkvantiteter. Vid utvärdering blev resultatet att företaget bör satsa på förslaget där måleriet är outsourcat då detta bidrar med ekonomiska så väl som flödesrelaterade fördelar samtidigt som ytan används på ett effektivare sätt.

Diplomová práce hodnotí finanční výkonnost společnosti Natura DK,a.s. v letech 2002 až 2005. V teoretické části práce jsou popsány metody finanční analýzy, které jsou použity v praktické části samotného hodnocení společnosti. V praktické části se seznámíme se společností samotnou, analýzou abslutních ukazatelů, analýzou rozdílových ukazatelů a analýzou poměrových ukazatelů. V práci jsou dále vypočteny bonitní a bankrotní modely pro společnost Natura DK,a.s., systém ukazatelů Du Pont, ekonomický normál, ekonomická přidaná hodnota a model INFA.
