Feasibility Study on Cage Culture in Nan -sha Tai -Ping Island

Chou, De-chiang 23 December 2009 (has links)
Taiwan is an island surrounded by vast open sea. The impacts of typhoon on fish farms located near shore are usually tremendously severe and cause a variety of difficulty in developing a profitable cage aquaculture industry. Thus it is often regarded as one of highly risky ventures for fishermen. While Tai Ping Island is located at the tropic zone, the south most territory of the Republic of China, rendering a superior farming site for cage culture due to its clean water quality and nonexistence of typhoon. This study evaluates the possibility of establishing a series of cage culture in Tai Ping Island and estimates its economic feasibility according to the information obtained from Penghu cage farmers. Since Tai Ping Island is a military base, it is still prohibited for public visit at the present moment. Once the operation of offshore cage aquaculture at the Tai Ping Island is established, it may inspire other cooperates associated with the fishery industry to cluster on the Island. The researcher has served at the coastal guard office in Tai Ping Island for a year and thus quite familiar with land-based facilities, surrounding marina, and ecosystem etc. Through past experience in protecting cage farmers knowing that good farming site is relatively important for cage culture to success, this study intend to offer a good farming site to fish farmers in Taiwan. It is anticipated that a prosperous fish farming industry will develop in the near future.

Zoneamento ambiental como subsídio para o planejamento de uso e ocupação do solo do município de Corumbataí - SP /

Oliveira, Regina Célia de. January 2003 (has links)
A ausência de uma documentação cartográfica que apresente a espacialização das áreas de maior fragilidade da paisagem, sujeitas a ocorrência de fenômenos naturais, dificulta em muito a tomada de decisão quanto ao uso a ser atribuído a um determinado espaço de forma a minimizar os impactos oriundos da intervenção antrópica, que se refletem no desenvolvimento das atividades sócio-econômicas da região...(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Anchored on the systemic approach, this research aims at the development and assessment of two distinct methodological proposals of environmental analysis, as they are applied to the elaboration of an environmental zoning plan for the municipality of Corumbataí, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Hence, in order to accomplish this aim, the methodological approaches put forward by ROSS (1990) were discussed. According to this author, the geosystemic analysis of the landscape is founded on the empirical analysis of natural environment susceptibility to human induced changes, which generates Landscape Taxonomic Units. Another methodological approach to this issue was proposed by MATEO RODRIGUEZ (1994). In this case, the interaction between human induced and natural components is taken in account in order to stablish Landscape Geoenvironmental Units. Both methodologies are important tools for understanding of spatial (re) organization as a consequence of a certain environmental planning policy. The Municiplaity of Corumbataí lies within the "Corumbataí River Catchment Environmental Protection Area". Its economy is closely linked to the region's, mainly through the development of rural and mining activities. The development of the Municipality, specially at its rural areas, is not ruled by any immediate spatial ordering plan, which results in the disorganized occupation of environmentaly fragile areas, prone to the attack of natural hazards, aggravated by human induced processes, which may lead to catastrophic scenarios. The absence of an accurate cartographic documentation, which emphasizes the spatial occurrence of landscape sensitive areas, inhibits the decision making processes and the regulation of landuse in the Municipality, which could help minimizing the effects of human induced hazards upon the region's socio-economical activities...(Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Doutor

A sustainable urban design approach to adaptive reuse projects in Cape Town

Jäger, Heidi January 2017 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Interior Design))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2017. / This research is about the spaces between places in urban settings, also referred to as "Interiorscapes", a term coined by Paul Cooper (2003). These spaces are often overlooked by developers and urban planners in their vision of the bigger scheme yet they function as extensions of the habitable spaces in buildings and contribute to the overall structure and understanding of a place. If disregarded these spaces can potentially become neglected and derelict inadvertently sanctioning opportunities for crime. In Cape Town, the proposed developments at the Two Rivers Urban Park in partnership with the Western Cape Government and the City of Cape Town, offer an opportunity to explore the inclusion of Interiorscapes in adaptive reuse projects aimed at creating sustainable commercial urban spaces in Cape Town. This interpretive qualitative research was conducted by exploring proposals made for two of the districts within the Two Rivers Urban Park area; (1) Oude Molen Ecovillage, currently a mixed-use sustainable neighborhood, and (2) the River Club where planning is currently underway to develop a commercialised recreational hub and tourist attraction. These sites were identified as study areas as they offer the potential for the implementation of Interiorscapes in adaptive reuse projects. Using a Grounded Theory approach, data was collected by interviewing the stakeholders, reviewing the proposals drawn up for these developments and through observations made when visiting the sites. Using the principles of New Urbanism, data has been analysed and the findings are presented as a narrative. The findings of this research indicate that ultimately the inclusion of Interiorscapes and all they represent is tied up in politics and economic processes monopolised by developers. The construct of Interiorscapes becomes a metaphor for the wellconsidered, well planned, user centered, ‘bottom-up’ design solutions which in the current context may present as a challenging problem which has no apparent solution. Recommendations are made for sustainable design alternatives to the current building and planning practices in Cape Town for adaptive reuse projects through the introduction of Interiorscapes.

Benedetti, Túlio Moraes 16 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Waldir Antônio Bizzo / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Mecânica / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-16T11:49:07Z (GMT). This work presents a technical and economic analysis of partial replacement of a vapor compression refrigeration system for an ammonia-water absorption system and its energetic integration with a poultry slaughterhouse. In the first part of this work, is developed a general framework for the thermodynamic modeling of a system of absorption refrigeration cycle using ammonia-water mixture in order to evaluate operating conditions and design parameters. It is also developed models for pre-sizing of major equipment in the system, such as heat exchangers and packed column. The influence of operation temperatures, efficiency and arrangement of heat exchangers and different configurations of the cycle (GAX - "Generator-Absorber heat eXchange and single stage) are analyzed and compared in order to verify the effect on system performance. In the second part, is discussed practical feasible to recover material and energy by-products from slaughtered poultry, in order to obtain thermal energy with low costs and integration with the absorption refrigeration system. In the third and final section, an economic feasibility study is conducted in order to obtain the return on investment, considered by the substitution of electricity by thermal power. Research results show that the heat exchangers increase the cycle performance significantly (more than 40 %), and the rich solution preheater is indispensable. The GAX system proved to be a potential alternative to obtain higher values for the coefficient of performance, however, its energy advantage suffers significant limitations of some parameters, such as the thermal gradient between the generator and absorber. Considering, therefore, the validity of the techniques of energy recovery from by-products from slaughtered poultry and the use of absorption system, the slaughterhouse has enormous potential for energy recovery in small and large scale, allowing for greater environmental and economic sustainability / Mestrado / Termica e Fluidos / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica

Valoração econômica dos impactos causados pela queima da cana-de-açúcar no meio ambiente / Economical evaluation of impacts caused by sugar-cane burning at environment

Katty Maria da Costa Mattos 19 December 2002 (has links)
Concern about environmental problems turns up as an important element regarding material and economical growth and life quality. Due natural resources shortage, alternatives have been quested for socioeconomic development is sustainable. Impact by agro-industrial sector in environmental hazarding is significant, so it is fundamental negative externalities caused by productive process in environment are considered, as well as need of economical internalization of those effects. Natural capital introduction in economical analysis is necessary once environmental degradation costs and natural resources consumption have not been added in to productive processes, being evaluated natural stocks flows and contributing for a sustainable scale deftnition of economy. When these industrial organizations comprise a great productive area of country, for example alcohol industry assemblage case, problems caused by sugar-cane plantation burning become fundamental. Therefore, a study of alcohol industry sector was accomplished using raw cane, analyzing and quantifying straw and pulp several uses, and environmental effects, being avoided impacts caused by sugar-cane burning at environment and a possible economical viability using economical valuation method.
