Implementation of a Generic Gateway as a Multipurpose Communication Node

Moshiri, Hesam January 2014 (has links)
Steering and navigation systems play an essential role in governing today’s leisure boats. CPAC Systems AB, a subsidiary of Volvo AB, satisfies a large part of the global market needs for this kind of products. CPAC Systems, among others, manufactures a well-known “steer-by-wire” (SBW) control system, the “Electronic Vessel Control” (a.k.a. EVC). The need to connect the EVC to systems and devices designed by other companies resulted in the development of “gateway” devices, which have a primary role in preserving the integrity of the overall system architecture. Whenever the SBW communicates with external products, gateways are used as electric isolators and protocol translators, in order to protect the integrity of the SBW function. Today, a number of different gateway devices are required to match the different interfaces to which the CPAC’s EVC system has to be connected. This thesis aims to tackle the huge diversification of the requirements and evaluates the possibility of designing a “single” product that satisfies most of the requirements. In addition to that, the work aims to design a flexible device that could be easily updated to comply with the potential needs of the incoming applications. This isbeneficial in terms of both technology and cost-efficiency. Existing gateway products are designed to fulfill the assigned tasks or just to do a specific protocol conversion and apart from this significant difference with a generic gateway, they have some limitations concerning environmental conditions and prospective upgrades. Therefore designing, testing and implementation of one multifunctional gateway to be applicable as a multipurpose communication node to cover several functionalities, would be beneficial. Several challenges arose in designing the generic gateway device, such as: hardware design with a limited number of connection I/Os (solution is limited to 20 I/Os, whereas current gateway products require as many as 35 I/Os), robustness, final cost and power consumption. The contribution of the thesis was to analyse current gateway products, to design the hardware (Schematic and PCB), to implement the software, to debug the operation, to verify of the designed hardware to ensure the operation of each part. For gathering test results and investigation of communication or instruction signals, industrial equipment like digital oscilloscope and CAN analyser have been used to prove the operation of the device which are demonstrated in the “design tests” part. In addition, robustness of the gateway has been tested against several industrial test parameters, such as temperature variations, isolation, power supply robustness and typical power consumption. The results of these tests are iscussed in the “robustness tests” part. By fulfilling all of these steps and collaboration with the company team, satisfactory results have been achieved.

Utveckling av madrasstestare

Kaniza, Haris January 2014 (has links)
This Bachelor thesis has been done for Lenze AB in Linköping for the customer Texo Application AB, the project was to develop a machine to test mattresses. The development affected PLC-programming with built HMI and inverters to control the system. The machine is designed to test mattresses before they are approved for sales by applying pressure with various force on the mattress. The end product will be a CSV-file witch lists a torque from zero to 1000 Nm and the position of the press for every other torque.

Design and implementation process for controls integration using CAN bus on a full function electric vehicle conversion

Provencher, Hugo 01 March 2014 (has links)
From the electrical engineering perspective, this thesis addresses the design and implementation of the conversion process from a hybrid electric to a full function electric vehicle (FFEV). The architecture selection process and main components of an electric vehicle (EV) are described, and an exhaustive literature review on the controller area network (CAN) is presented. The electrical and control system integration strategy is explained, along with the model-based algorithm programmed into the vehicle integration module (VIM). Emulating electronic control units (ECUs) from the original powertrain and controlling additional ones for the electrical drivetrain through CAN bus, along with keeping the same functionalities of a typical production vehicle makes this vehicle conversion similar to a factory built model. Finally, the tests and results originating from this conversion to a full electric powertrain are discussed. The vehicle features a 83.5 kWh Li-ion battery built in-house, resulting in an estimated range of 482 km.

Cascaded linear shift invariant processing in pattern recognition

Reed, Stuart January 2000 (has links)
Image recognition is the process of classifying a pattern in an image into one of a number of stored classes. It is used in such diverse applications as medical screening, quality control in manufacture and military target recognition. An image recognition system is called shift invariant if a shift of the pattern in the input image produces a proportional shift in the output, meaning that both the class and location of the object in the image are identified. The work presented in this thesis considers a cascade of linear shift invariant optical processors, or correlators, separated by fields of point non-lineari ties, called the cascaded correlator. This is introduced as a method of providing parallel, shiftinvariant, non-linear pattern recognition in a system that can learn in the manner of neural networks. It is shown that if a neural network is constrained to give overall shift invariance, the resulting structure is a cascade of correlators, meaning that the cascaded correlator is the only architecture which will provide fully shift invariant pattern recognition. The issues of training of such a non-linear system are discussed in neural network terms, and the non-linear decisions of the system are investigated. By considering digital simulations of a two-stage system, it is shown that the cascaded correlator is superior to linear filtering for both discrimination and tolerance to image distortion. This is shown for theoretical images and in real-world applications based on fault identification in can manufacture. The cascaded correlator has also been proven as an optical system by implementation in a joint transform correlator architecture. By comparing simulated and optical results, the resulting practical errors are analysed and compensated. It is shown that the optical implementation produces results similar to those of the simulated system, meaning that it is possible to provide a highly non-linear decision using robust parallel optical processing techniques.

Úplná charakteristika traktorového motoru a její využití při provozu vozidla

Smékal, Tomáš January 2016 (has links)
The master´s thesis deals with the characteristics of the engines. The introduction describes the combustion engines, different characteristics and performance measurement technologies through the PTO. The practical part describes the parameters of the tractor John Deere 8320R and parameters measuring test at Mendel University in Brno. From the data is compiled by the nominal rotation speed characteristics and the full rotation speed characteristics. In conclusion, the results are compared with data from the manufacturer and graphs are appropriately described characteristics.

Can Xue's Spatialized Vision: Buildings and the Exploration of the Soul

Pi, Popo, Pi, Popo January 2012 (has links)
This thesis centers on the question of how the representation of buildings opens up possibilities for investigating Can Xue's fiction as literature with universal concern about humanity. It explores the significance of Can Xue's employment of buildings in her works from three aspects. The first aspect regards buildings as the reflection of the structure of the soul. The second aspect situates buildings in their relationship with residents and explores the connection between the buildings/residents relationship and that of body and soul. The last aspect sees buildings as the microcosmic projection of Can Xue's fictional space. This study places textual constitution at the center of investigation through the approach of close textual analysis. It marks an attempt to reconsider the method of literary investigation in the field of modern Chinese literature which has been dominated by cultural and historical approaches.
