Martin Musil, Jindřichův Hradec, 2010, 74 p. and 1 p. attachments. The thesis analyzes the economic crisis of 1929 and the similarity of the current economic crisis. The aim is to highlight the ineffectiveness of conventional solutions, which governments are doing and outline certain alternative solutions that might be effective in the long term. One such solution is the development of transport, because it is a major factor in job hunting , or the implementation of the business. The practical part of the thesis deals with a futuristic transport solution which would provide a much superior mobility of the workforce as we know it today. Effective functioning of such services would be more efficient to avoid the consequences of economic crises that await mankind in the future.

Could the crisis in the PIIGS countries have been avoided with an independent central bank? : A study using the Taylor ruleMuntenanu, Jasmina, Geni, Jurinda January 2010 (has links)

This thesis is trying to find out whether the five studied countries, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain would have avoided the economic crisis by having an independent central bank. The theory used for our study is the Taylor rule, using statistical data in order to count out the short-term nominal interest rate. Results are compared with the ECB nominal interest rate to see if the difference between the two rates is big. By looking at other macroeconomic data we will try to understand if the fiscal policy could have been conducted in a better way.The results we reached were varying. In the case of Ireland and Spain we could clearly see that a higher interest rate could have drastically altered the outcome, potentially avoiding the crisis. Regarding Italy and Portugal, the current crisis is more due to structural problems and not due to the level of the interest rate. Finally, we could see that Greece could have benefited from a higher interest rate. But we cannot definitely say that this has been the reason for the crisis since the Greek fiscal policy has been poorly conducted.

Es geht nicht um "Versagen"! / No "Human Error"Crome, Erhard January 2010 (has links)

What's Wrong with the Baltics : The Rise and Fall of the Baltic TigersKüller, Albert January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to from a Swedish perspective investigate the fantastic growth rates of Estonia and Latvia and why it became such a massive collapse when the world economy was slowing down. To build a theoretical foundation for the investigation several international macroeconomic theories such as the Mundell-Flemming model, the fundamental national income equilibrium, and international parity relations were used. The empirical section shows that Estonia and Latvia have based much of their growth on imports from their Baltic and especially their Nordic neighbours. At the same time they have been highly dependent on continuously growing Nordic stock markets and high risk appetite from investors to be able to keep the fabulous growth figures. The conclusions drawn are that it has been possible for Estonia and Latvia to grow at fast rates, by running large current accounts deficits, as long as the world was in a boom. But when the world economy is slowing down they are now forced into the very painful process of re-establishing a more balanced current account.

Revolten som uteblev? : Kollektiva aktioner i Sverige 1980-1995Granberg, Magnus January 2012 (has links)
The study explores collective action in Sweden between 1980 to 1995 using time-series data from the European Protest and Coercion Database. In spite of severe hardship during the crisis of the early 1990s, Swedish strike-rates declined. However, contention merely shifted from workplaces into the streets; there was indeed a protest movement against austerity, as shown by a series of large demonstrations, and some riots, between 1989 and 1993. Further analysis indicates this movement faded as it was increasingly chanelled into the electoral campaign of the labor pary; having won the 1994 election, the organised labor movement no longer had an interest in sustaining the protest movement against austerity.
