Under this view, health workers and health users are subjects of the educative process. Thus, this study aims to identify the key clinical and socio sanitary attributes and promote educational activities with patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in a Family Health Care Unit of the Western Sanitary District, in the city of Natal / RN. It is an action research which uses the references of the Theory of Liberating Education, which is based on a problem-solving pedagogy and that values dialogue in the process of understanding oneself and the world. Thirty-six diabetics, who are residents of the area covered by the health care unit, and thirty health workers participated in the survey. Each group had an average of twelve participants, and the meetings took place at the Unit?s hall, using conversation wheels, group dynamics, life narratives, experiences telling, movie exhibition and discussions, music, knowledge telling, desires, limitations, beliefs and values socially constructed. Data collection took place during the second half of two thousand and thirteen through Free Word Association Technique (FWAT), recordings of conversation wheels, participative observation, group dynamics, testimonies, questionnaires, life narratives and photographs. The empirical material was organized and subjected to three analyzes: thematic content (Bardin), textual statistics analysis by software IRAMUTEQ (Ratinaud), and photographic analysis (Edmund Feldman). The data analyses originated words, expressions, categories, themes and creative situations showing that popular health education is in process of construction, but still very incipient in primary care. The National Policy on Popular Health Education shows us the necessary ways for the transformation of health practices and the build of a more shared and solidary society. The meetings could be place to reverse that normative logic that has been happening over the years in primary care, but that by itself is not enough. It is possible to conclude that the use of active practices, increasing of listening and training on Popular Health Education will enable changes in the scenario where users and health workers deal with diabetes mellitus. Thus we see the popular health education is being timidly incorporated to the educational process of the subjects involved in this study, and far away from the principles of participation, organization of political work, increase opportunities for dialogue, respect, solidarity and tolerance among different actors involved in addressing the health problems that are fundamental to the improvement in building healthy practices of primary care / A Educa??o Popular em Sa?de, em sua dimens?o libertadora, remete indiv?duos e grupos ? troca de saberes e experi?ncias, permitindo-lhes associar a sa?de ao resultado das suas condi??es de vida levando a uma emancipa??o do sujeito.

Throughout the world the lifestyle of people have changed drastically in the last decades, especially in developing countries like Brazil. These changes brought new ways of getting ill, among these illnesses stand above chronic and degenerative diseases. One of the illnesses of most incidence in contemporary society is hypertension, including in Brazil, which is in high prevalence and is of a great risk to diseases in the circulatory system. Brazil's Family Health Strategy is prioritizing the cope of this pathology and it needs sustainable actions in this matter. Considering this, it turned out to have a great value to develop a study in order to find out the perception of a team of the Family Health Strategy regarding the formation of groups, concept and importance of self-care and Popular Health Education. Promoting from that the formation of a group of self-care to users carriers of hypertension under the light of the Popular Health Education. As data collection instrument an interview was performed in order to acknowledge the perception of such professionals regarding the subject approached. To collect other kinds of information we used a field journal. The data analysis was based on Bardin's content analysis. At the end of the study, we were able to observe that the workers of the chosen team have a limited perception of health education, understanding it as only a way of preventing diseases and as a way of educate and inform the population. They do not understand the model proposed by the Popular Health Education. The practices currently developed by the team are basically lectures performed in the community without schedule, not even following a regular basis. Problems such as only part of the team developing the actions of health education, some professionals not willing to be part of such practices and a very tight or incompatible schedule are some of the existing hinders found in the reality studied. The workers of the team studied presented some experience working with user groups. They have good expectations of which positive results a group of hypertensive patients may bring, however, most of them do not know the importance of self-care to those patients. It was necessary to develop workshops to the discussion of such subjects with this team. These workshops made possible the confirmation of the results of this research. It was possible to observe that the whole team needs a better involvement in health education activities, a proper schedule, and an ongoing education to the discussion of this and other important subjects. After these workshops, the team decided to organize an experimental action following the models of Popular Health Education to the hypertensive patients in their area, showing excellent results locally. We believe this was a seed to the formation of a group of hypertensive patients in order to develop self-care guided by the Popular Health Education, as well as the start of changes in the educational practices developed by the team studied.
