Through qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research, the international context and the Brazilian historical context of higher education diversification policies were presented. The fundamentals of technological careers in Brazil were described from Projects 15 and 19 of the Sectoral Plan for Education and Culture from 1972 to 1974, which deals with the Gradual Implementation of Short Term Courses and the evolution of these policies in subsequent decades. The impact of public policies on the diversification of higher education in the professional development of graduates of higher education courses in the present time was evidenced by means of a case study. In it, the perspectives of the development of the professional profile of graduates of the Human Resource Management Technology course of a private institution of higher education in the Federal District were examined, in order to verify the accomplishments initially proposed in the political initiatives of 1970. / O presente estudo buscou identificar os impactos da evolução das iniciativas de diversificação da educação superior no Brasil da década de 1970 sobre o desenvolvimento profissional de egressos de cursos superiores de tecnologia na atualidade. Por meio de pesquisa qualitativa, exploratória e descritiva apresentou-se o contexto internacional e o contexto histórico brasileiro das políticas de diversificação da educação superior de nível superior. Descreveram-se os fundamentos das carreiras tecnológicas no Brasil a partir dos Projetos 15 e 19 do Plano Setorial de Educação e Cultura 1972 - 1974, que trata da Implantação Gradativa dos Cursos de Curta Duração e a evolução destas políticas nas décadas subsequentes. Evidenciaram-se os impactos das políticas públicas de diversificação da educação superior no desenvolvimento profissional de egressos de cursos superiores de tecnologia na atualidade por meio de um estudo de caso. Nele foram levantadas as perspectivas do desenvolvimento do perfil profissional de egressos do curso superior de Tecnologia em Gestão de Recursos Humanos de uma instituição privada de ensino superior no Distrito Federal, a fim de verificar as realizações inicialmente propostas nas iniciativas políticas de 1970.
