Wool--A C library for OSE PowerPC Multi-Core systemWang, Yang January 2011 (has links)
With the requirement of high property processor rapidly increasing, ordinary single-core processors can hardly deal with the task it faces due to the limitation of frequency, power consumption, heat dissipation and etc. Under this circumstance multi-core processor technology turns out to be a reasonable solution for this problem. While multi-core processors will improve the performance like clock frequency, parallel threads and etc, a certain research illustrate that the improvement of the performance is not linear with the number of cores. This is because the overhead of scheduler, unbalanced load and the architecture of the multi-core processors. When operating system gives good model like SMP, AMP and industry like X86 and PowerPC design kind of architecture for multi-core, author’s direction naturally focus on a light overhead scheduler which is a C language scheduler “Wool” researched in this paper originally designed by Mr. Karl-Filip Faxen in SICS. Wool is a library providing lightweight tasks on top of pthreads. [4] In order to understand the principal and structure of “Wool”, author does several pre-study about multi-core schedule and decides the platform and operating system to design some tests. The first part of this master thesis report give an overview of modern technology of multi-core architecture, parallel programming, task parallelism strategy and etc. The second part specified the “Wool” scheduler. PowerPC e500 core and Enea OSE operating system for the test design and use case. The last part conclude the results of the tests and point out the probably direction for future research.

In a current context of important material deliveries, mostly produced in Europe and shipped to China, many standards need to be set, rules to be established, liabilities to be defined. However, most of the time, to implement these concepts, the issues need to be faced first, and that is the situation at the moment in the Taishan project. The choice in this master thesis has been made to focus on the overall delivery process, as well as the package opening once delivered to China, to detail the transmission of responsibilities and the actions to be implemented in case of problems. This issue is of the greatest importance in such a project of Engineering and Procurement of two complete EPRTMreactors1. It is not the same treatment when a problem occurs on a simple valve and when it occurs on a several thousands euros worth element. The thorough study of the supply chain illustrates the theory to point out the main elements of concern. From Sub-suppliers until building erection, the main points are discussed to give the reader an insight of integrated supply chain. As a consequence this master thesis introduces and discusses the supply chainrelated processes in the Taishan project, to give a clear overview of the reality.

A Decentralized Stabilization Scheme for Large-scale Interconnected SystemsKhorsand, Omid January 2010 (has links)
This thesis considers the problem of decentralized control of large-scale systems by means of a decomposition and decentralization approach. Having decomposed the system into a number of interconnected subsystems a set of local decentralized controllers is constructed for individual subsystems. An important issue is to adapt methods with existing information structure constraints. Namely, sometimes exchange of information is not possible among various subsystems, or the transmission can be costly, lossy or delayed, which the latter, is usually unavoidable due to the prevailing technological trends of present-day, in using shared wireless networks. So the best way is that individual agents utilize their own locally available information for the purpose of control and estimation. Understandably, this constraint could also make the class of stabilizable systems smaller. Having described the basics of interconnected systems and decentralized control, a special class of stable systems is studied and an easy to follow algebraic solution for the stability of an interconnected system is put forward. Using the notion of diagonal dominance and some well known results from matrix theory, a decentralized stabilization scheme has been proposed for continuous and discrete time systems and the class of stabilizable systems has been identified using the linear programming technique. The design is reliable under structural perturbations by which subsystems are connected and disconnected again during the functioning of the system. Finally some nice properties of the mentioned class of stable systems are shown, especially the problem of robust stability for interval matrix family is considered and it is shown that this problem admits a simple solution for the studied family of systems.

Today Information Technology (IT) can be found in every modern enterprise. As IT has become one of the most crucial parts of an enterprise, it has made management aware of the significant impact IT has on the success of the enterprise. This has led to a significant increase on IT investments. IT governance aims at assuring that IT delivers more value from IT investments and enforcing IT’s role as a business enabler. This master thesis aims at assessing the IT organization at AB Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) from an IT governance perspective. The purpose of such assessment is to identify problem areas and suggest measures for improvement. The IT governance framework COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology) has guided the theory for IT governance throughout this study. A framework for the assessment of the IT governance maturity at SL was developed based on the IT Organization Model Assessment Tool (ITOMAT), a formalized method for assessing the IT governance maturity. The IT governance maturity of SL obtained the score 2,68 out of 5,00. Considering the fact that SL started with the process of introducing IT governance to the organization as recent as 3 years ago, the result obtained is considered high. It indicates that significant progress has been achieved in their IT governance. Nevertheless, the organization still has significant potential for improvement.

The Enterprise Architecture Analysis Tool, EAAT, is a software tool developed by the department of Industrial Information- and Control systems, ICS, at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. EAAT is a modeling tool that combines Enterprise Architecture (EA) modeling with probabilistic relational modeling. Therefore EAAT makes it possible to design, describe and analyze the organizational structure, business processes, information systems and infrastructure within an enterprise. During this study EAAT has been validated in order to assess the usability of the tool and to provide suggestion of improvement. To reach conclusions EA models of IT systems out in the industry has been created in EAAT. A usability study has been performed in order to find weaknesses and strength in the tools user interface. The results of the study consist of a couple of scenarios of how the tool might be used by the industry. An important feature to improve is the possibility to easily find the weak parts of the system. The user interface should provide more feedback to the user. The modeling process could be improved by providing the user with suggestions on what to do next in order to reach a full and complete model.

To produce, transfer and deliver energy within the power system, reliable and available information systems are a part of the key to success. Information about the grid states, outages, assets, locations, customers etc. is required to operate the business. Information systems need to exchange information, both within a utility and with external utilities. Since different utilities use different information systems with different information models an incentive for a standardized information model occurs. The Common Information Model (CIM) is an information model standardized by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Since this information model is a standard and covers many areas of business it becomes abstract, complex and intangible. Therefore adaptation and delimitation is required before implementation. In this study CIM is analyzed and then compatibility tested in the context of network model data exchange. The data is provided from a network operations unit within a company in the energy distribution business. The information exchange specification is used to adapt CIM to the specific situation. Then the corresponding CIM data is located in the source data. At last a transformation example is provided with a suggested syntax. According to this study and the observations made from the sample data an implementation should be feasible. However such an implementation will require engineering.

Deployment of Smart Energy to Undeveloped Electrical NetworksTang, Yaojing January 2011 (has links)
This thesis presents an approach to design and implementation of a Renewable Power Complex (RPC) containing several intermittent sources. The purpose of RPC is to improve the poor rural distribution network voltage portfolio which can be traced back to the typical long distance radial lines. With the purpose of improve system overall voltage, iterative studies are conducted to calculate the requirements of RPC in terms of capacity. Afterwards, the proposed approach is verified at a test system. From implementation perspective, the capacity of the inverter interfacing the generation unit is a bottleneck that limits the possible dimension of the RPC. Consequently, the RPC is actually composed by several atomic units with a much smaller scale. The software where the potentials of intermittent generation sources can be estimated given the geographic information is used to optimize the size of RPC atomic units. Finally, the thesis tackles a high level design of automations system under which the RPC is operated. The functionality described are all compliant with commonly accepted IEC 61850 standards with the intention to ease the future implementation.

The concept of ‘prosumers’: of promoting consumers of electricity with a joint generation role has led to an unprecedented increase in attention for exploring distributed generation from a systems perspective. Amongst these, households occupy a significant proportion of the end use electricity consumption in most developed countries. Widespread adoption of onsite distributed generation providing households with their electricity demand could thus make them very significant actors in terms of their aggregated impact on the wider electricity power system. With a high level of general public perception and support for environmentally benign products including ‘green’ electricity, and a pioneering, liberalized electricity market: Sweden offers an ideal opportunity for innovation addressing more active roles played by households for influencing the source of their end- use electricity source and moreover, in wider adoption of renewable energy in our everyday lives. Incorporated as a research contribution for a proof-of-concept for the Stockholm Royal Seaport Project, this Master thesis effort addresses the organization and functioning of an onsite distributed energy resources based electricity supply for Swedish residential apartment buildings. Taking inspiration from existing community ownership renewable energy models and existing research in integrating distributed energy resources, an outline of a business model is presented which is built around features characteristic of the Swedish residential system. It provides for a local market based system for trading of excess/ deficit of electricity amongst neighbors and offers an means to create a setup which provides space for new developments, while at the same time ensuring the integrity of the ownership and control which a household consumer can exert. The thesis effort focused on development of the concept and an initial implementation of the control aspect facilitating the trading of electrical energy between households in a twenty- five apartment residential building, during each hour of a year.

In order to assure the usability, validity and reliability of an enterprise architecture analysis framework, it needs to be tested and evaluated. This report shows how such a test and evaluation can be performed using a real world scenario. The study will investigate a language for interoperability assessment proposed by Johan Ullberg et. al. in a construction project in Stockholm called the Royal Seaport project. The language is first used to evaluate the interoperability in the future IT-architecture in this project. Then the use of the language is evaluated according to best practices in a case study. Finally improvements and changes are proposed to the language, which would enhance its use in the earlier mentioned project.

This Master Thesis has investigated how one should define requirements for a desired product and evaluate the possible solutions, in order to deliver sufficient information to the organization to use as basis. The company?s problem is that there is no communication link to use, between the delivered control systems and the company, in order to support it. The company desires a new product that could be implemented in the control systems worldwide for communication with the control system and for maintenance reasons. The Thesis has therefore started by eliciting requirements for the desired product in order to specify a Requirements Specification. The Requirements Specification has been used to form an evaluation process, and the tailored evaluation process has in turn lead to findings for the possible solutions. The intention with this report is to use this document as a sufficient reference to determine if resources should be committed to constructing or purchasing the product and using it within their organizational context.
