教师教室层面的课程决策: 协商的视角. / Teacher's curriculum desicion making at classroom level: the perspective of negotiation / CUHK electronic theses & dissertations collection / Jiao shi jiao shi ceng mian de ke cheng jue ce: xie shang de shi jiao.January 2010 (has links)
Considering the characteristics of research questions, The study adopted qualitative approach and case study strategy. Six teachers from two elementary schools in a district of Shanghai were chosen as cases. Data was collected through observations, interviews and documents, and then coded and analyzed them by Nvivc8. / Shanghai launched its curriculum reform since the late 1980s, which was followed by the second round curriculum reform started in 1998. Owing to those constantly wheeling processes of reform, curriculum materials, teaching methods, curriculum evaluation, curriculum organization, accountability and people's conception of curriculum experienced a big change. These changes challenged teachers' traditional understandings of curriculum and teaching as well as their ways of acting. The practice of teaching becomes more and more complicated, and there are a lot of conflicts and uncertainties in it. Rather than choosing between the right and wrong, teachers make their decisions through negotiations with many elements in the dynamic field. Based on these considerartions, this research focuses on the content of decisions teachers make at the level of classroom along with analysis of these processes which are framed in a perspective of negotiation. / The findings of this research indicate that: (1) The content of teachers' curriculum decision-makings at the level of classroom concentrated on teaching goals, content and process, while emphasizing evaluations after classroom instead of instantaneous evaluations in teaching. (2) Thenegotiation with situation factors was the main avenue teachers took to decide teaching goals and contents. When conflicts emerged between teachers' beliefs and situation factors, most of teachers were inclined to step back and make compromise with situation factors. (3) Teachers' negotiation with other people provided accesses for teachers to getting emerging curriculum ideas, learning processes and methods of teaching. People who have authority in experience of teaching, professional knowledge and administrative power were important evidences for teachers' decision-making. (4) Along with accumulation of experience in teaching, teachers' decisions mainly depended on their negotiations with themselves. (5) Teachers' final decisions were co-products of their negotiations with situation, other people and themselves, while each of these three elements played different role in this process. / Through analyzing content and process of decision-makings of teachers in elementary school in Shanghai, this research summed up the characteristics of negotiation embodied in the Chinese teachers' decision-making at the level of classroom. Those findings will shed some light on the improvement of curriculum reform in Chinese basic education as well as on teacher development domain. / 杨兰. / Adviser: Pingkwan Fok. / Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 73-03, Section: A, page: . / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2010. / Includes bibliographical references (p. 345-362). / Electronic reproduction. In the first part of the thesis, the researcher intended to describe the complexity of the educational environments in which how teachers practice organizational learning in schools of Shenzhen, mainland China and to examine the effectiveness of organizational learning in those environments. In the second part, the researcher conducted a quantitative survey of high schools as learning organizations in Shenzhen and attempted to distinguish their capabilities of organizational learning. Two kinds of high schools were included in the survey, state-run schools and privately-run schools. / The key characteristic of learning organizations is organizational learning. Organizational learning is also a process to raise the adaptability and the creativity of an organization through a complex system to cope with the challenges arisen from the unpredictable circumstances. Organizational learning is a result of deep collective conversations and dialogues among staff members and a result of self-reflection in a certain cultural context. It not only brings new arrangements in organizational structures, but also changes the school culture and transformation of behavior patterns. Organizational learning is the pre-requisites of surviving and continuous development of the organization. / There were three phases in this study, namely, a pilot study in which a small scale survey were conducted, a main study which included a large scale survey and a case study of four selected schools from the sample in the large scale survey. In the first stage, a pilot study was conducted in order to trial run an instrument which attempted to assess the characteristics of organizational learning of high schools in Shenzhen. After establishing a preliminary framework of organizational learning in schools and an instrument for the study, an attempt was made to assess the capabilities of organizational learning in a greater sample of high schools in Shenzhen. (Abstract shortened by UMI.) / This study has based upon the existing problems that teachers faced in the process of curriculum reform in basic education within mainland China. 香港小學教師對資訊科技教育發展因素觀感的研究. / Study of primary school teachers' perceptions of the development of information technology in education in Hong Kong / CUHK electronic theses & dissertations collection / Xianggang xiao xue jiao shi dui zi xun ke ji jiao yu fa zhan yin su guan gan de yan jiu.January 2007 (has links)
In November 1998, the Hong Kong Government published the policy document entitled "Information Technology for Learning in a New Era Five-Year Strategy 1998/99 to 2002/03" and defined the goals and the scope of the development of Information Technology in education in Hong Kong. One of the goals is to encourage using Information Technology (I.T.) in education and to promote students' ability in handling information. As the role of I.T. is becoming more and more important in education, schools themselves have also implemented I.T. to various extents. The main purpose of this study is to explore the impacts of the external environment on the development of I.T. in Hong Kong primary schools and examine also the relationship between the use of I.T. in education and teaching effectiveness in Hong Kong primary schools. / Recommendations have been made for school administrators' consideration in the development of I.T. systems in primary schools and ways of improving teaching effectiveness. Further areas of investigation into the relationship between the development of I.T. in education and teaching effectiveness in primary schools are also recommended. / The results of the research indicate that: (1) the "Policy" factor and "Funding" factor had a high, significant correlation with the different aspects of I.T. development of Hong Kong primary schools; (2) a school with well-developed I.T. had a positive significant correlation with "Teaching Effectiveness". / The School Environment Constraint Instrument developed by Lam (1989) was adopted to meet the context of Hong Kong primary schools and modified for this study. Two new factors "New Arrivals" and "Language Policy" are used to replace the original factors of 'Ethnicity' and 'Second Language'. The other two research instruments which measured "Information Technology Development" and "Teaching Effectiveness" were developed by the Researcher. / This study uses a quantitative approach to achieve the above purposes. Questionnaires were sent to 823 teachers from 25 Hong Kong primary schools to solicit their views on the impact of I.T. in school education, the use of I.T. education and their perceptions of teaching effectiveness. / 關李榮. / Adviser: Sun Keung Nicholas Pang. / Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 69-02, Section: A, page: 0454. / Thesis (doctoral)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2007. / Includes bibliographical references (p. 228-246). / Electronic reproduction. 小學美勞科教師的美術教育信念. / Beliefs of primary school art teachers towards art education: a narrative study / CUHK electronic theses & dissertations collection / Digital dissertation consortium / Xiao xue mei lao ke jiao shi de mei shu jiao yu xin nian.January 2007 (has links)
This phenomenon might show that every teacher has some underlying beliefs, which could be made clear by narration. Lack of "traditional" art making experience, Helen thought the "Visual Learning" in art education could help students "unwrap packaging" and get to understand the hidden truth. On the other hand, other three teachers who love drawing from their very young age, focused more on different media of art making. To some extent, reflecting an "art for art sake" attitude, which shows quite a distance from the orientation of recent curriculum changes. / This study is an exploratory narrative research, focusing on the beliefs and their formation process of those teachers who regard themselves as art teachers. Hong Kong society seems ignore the importance of art education. Most teachers teach in primary school can have a share on having a few Art & Craft lessons, including those who even don't understand what is art. In this context, there are still some teachers who regard themselves as art teachers. Why? What beliefs do they hold towards art or art education? How are these belief constructed? Are these teachers conscious of their own beliefs? Are these beliefs related to their teaching experience and seniority? / Through "synthesis text" interview, teachers are provided with the opportunity to reflect their beliefs and discover the unaware "existential presumptions". It was a good chance for them to clarify their blurred perspectives, even to make change of them. / Through four interviewees' sharing of their "life stories" towards art or art education as well as "how" and "why" they transmitted such teaching activities, the researcher found that regardless their teaching seniority, they all showed that art teachers should possess drawing ability. Interactive interviews and self-evaluation of their own "synthesis text" were delivered. The researcher found that during their late phase of teaching life, Wangyi and Zhongliang were aware that they haven't thought seriously about the relationship between art and art education. Hyde, during her early phase of teaching life, thinks that the one who love drawing can be an art teacher. Helen, in her middle phase of teaching life, did not seem to be very clear of what she believed towards art education. Only through several interviews could let her rethink and reconstruct some clues of belief. / 第1冊. 一項敘述性研究 A narrative study -- 第2冊. 四個「全貌的」故事 Four life stories. / Di 1 ce. Furthermore, whether they have the conscious and courage to break through the restraint which is given by the educational bureau and the school or not, they could be divided into two categories: the dependent inner-control empowerment and the transcendent inner-control empowerment. For example, if teachers confine their reflection within the existing value norm, we describe it as dependent inner-control empowerment. As for the LATQ teachers, they possess outer-control empowerment which makes teachers analyze and judge their own teaching practice from others' standards. (Abstract shortened by UMI.) / Lastly, in terms of how practical reflections influence teachers' professional development, the reflections of HTQ and LATQ teachers share a common characteristic. That is, they are both an active learning process of the teachers, even though the reflections are the results of outside forces. And the differences among the two groups of teachers are as follows: (a) the HTQ teachers look at their own professional experiences as the important basis reflection. (b) In terms of the process of reflection, the outcomes of the point by point summarizing process lead to the incremental change in teaching style while the outcome of systematic inquiry is the fundamental change in the renovation of espoused theories and theory-in-use. (c) As for the HTQ teachers, the ability of understanding, controlling and creating practice from reflections has given them inner-control empowerment. / Secondly, practical reflection results from the interaction between teachers' habitus and school field. The main factors in teachers' habitus that influence teachers' practical reflection are the attitudes and motivations of teachers' professional development, educational beliefs, the time of reflection and the competence of inquiry. The main factors in school field that influence teachers' practical reflection include principals' assumption of teachers' learning motivation (compelling), the need of school image management (performance), freedom for teachers' professional development (freedom), the concept of teaching and learning (focus on student learning) and teachers' culture (learning & communication). / The great demands of creative talents in knowledge economy and the pursuit of better humanistic teaching and learning challenge teachers' professional competency. Teachers are expected to be more adaptive and creative in curriculum implementation. Theoretically, teachers' practical reflection is the process of curriculum deliberation and creation. In this context, the inquiry into practical reflection has important theoretical contributions on how to advance curriculum implementation and teacher professional development. / The main research findings are as follows: Firstly, there are intrinsic differences in contents, levels and process of practical reflection between HTQ and LATQ teachers. / The present study addresses the following three questions. (1) What practical reflection has been done in curriculum implementation? (2) Which factors influence teachers' practical reflection? (3) How practical reflection affects teachers' professional development? / 趙明仁. / 論文(哲學博士)--香港中文大學, 2006. / 參考文獻(p. 261-272). / Adviser: Hin Wah Wong. / Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 68-03, Section: A, page: 0869. / Electronic reproduction. Perceptions of Hmong Parents in a Hmong American Charter School: a Qualitative Descriptive Case Study on Hmong Parent InvolvementLee, Kirk T. 26 July 2016 (has links)
Parental involvement plays an essential role in the United States (U.S.) educational system. However, parental involvement poses many challenges for Hmong parents in American schools. Many assumptions are made on the parts of teachers, staff, and Hmong parents about parents' roles pertaining to their involvement in their children's education. Hmong parents struggle to reconcile beliefs, attitudes, and values that they bring with them from Laos with the expectations found in the U.S. due to their unfamiliarity with the U.S. educational system.
This study employed the used a qualitative, descriptive case study approach to examine the perceptions of Hmong parents involvement at a K-6 Hmong American charter school in Northern California. The primary data collection method used in this study was interviews with four school-community stakeholder groups.
The purposeful-selected interview participants included two administrators, four teachers, six parents, and four students. The interviews were dialogically coded and nine themes were developed related to parental involvement. These nine themes were: communication with parents, committee involvement, flexibility of staff, enrichment programs non-traditional school schedule, importance of field trips, cultural events and presence of other cultures, recommend school to others, and positive behavioral reinforcement. The study concludes with a presentation of the implications of the nine themes on the design of parent involvement models and recommendations are offered related to policies and connected strategies for how to design culturally relevant supports for parent involvement in education.
