Entry Modes - A banking perspective

Hägg, Gustav, Jonsson, Niklas, Björk, Josefine January 2008 (has links)

In the European Union the borders are being wiped out and this is creating new business markets for companies that before never had dreamt of going international. Today we see it as natural that companies act world-wide to gain success and increase the growth and profit. They need to do this to be competitive on the ever changing market that we have nowadays. One of the most important things to have in mind when thinking of expanding to other countries is which entry mode to choose. There are several ways of entering a market and if you do it right you might be very successful, but if you do not spend time on this decision the internationalization process can become very short and the company can lose a lot of capital. With this thesis we want to investigate how two large Scandinavian banks made their presence into the Baltic market in the mid 90’s, which kind of entry modes they went for and if one of them made a wiser choice than the other. In the thesis we have also gone in to the factors that have been of high importance when making the decision on why they chose the Baltic market and also which kind of entry mode. Our main findings after having made this thesis is that it was the profit and growth potential that was the main driving force for establishing on the Baltic market, but also the short distance and the low costs of going in on the market. The choice of entry mode differs between the two banks and that was expected since they have different strategies when going international. And even the know-how of the market in question and resources of the company have been important factors.

Dynamic reliability using entry-time approach for maintenance of nuclear power plants

Wang, Shuwen 15 May 2009 (has links)
Entry-time processes are finite-state continuous-time jump processes with transition rates depending only on the two states involved in transition, the calendar time, and the most recent arrival time, which is termed as entry-time. The entry-time processes have the potential to provide a significantly greater range of applicability and flexibility than traditional reliability tools for case studies related to equipment and components in nuclear power plants. In this dissertation, the finite difference approximation of the integrodifferential Chapman-Kolmogorov equations for the entry-time processes was developed, and then it was verified by application to some hypothetical examples that are solved by alternative means, either (semi-)analytically or via simulation. To demonstrate the ability of entry-time model to applications in nuclear power plants for a RIAM based scenario, the entry-time approach is applied to the maintenance of main generators in nuclear power using the data from INPO-EPIX database. In this application, both reliability and financial performances acquired using the entry-time approaches corresponding to different maintenance policies are presented and discussed to help make maintenance decisions for the plant management. The ability of the EPIX database to provide time-dependent failure rates is demonstrated and the techniques for extraction of failure rates from the database for main generators are also discussed.

After the happen of Asia Financial Crisis in 1997, the ecology of the TFT-LCD industry has been changed dramatically. As many companies invested lots of money to enter the industry in Taiwan , Japan¡B Sound Korea and Taiwan will be the three main contenders within the TFT-LCD industry in the 21st century. This study is focused on factors what make firms, which manufacture TFT-LCD panels in Taiwan, choice different entry models when they entered the TFT-LCD industry. This study selects effective variables by the researches about aspects of external environment analysis and internal resource analysis. The variables of macro-environment include ¡§Politics¡¨¡B¡¨Law¡¨¡B¡¨Economy¡¨ and ¡§Technology¡¨. The variables of industry environment include ¡§Entry Barrier¡¨¡B¡¨Industrial Structure¡¨ and ¡¨Growth Opportunity ¡¨. The variables of internal resource include ¡§Tangible Asset¡¨¡B¡¨Intangible Asset¡¨¡B¡§Human Resource ¡§¡B¡¨Personal Capability¡¨ and ¡§Organizational Capability¡¨. By the procedures of case study research to gather secondary data and interview the senior managers of three TFT-LCD panel manufacturing firms, the results are as following: 1. The factors of external environment affect the entry model indirectly. 2. It is necessary to own lots of financial assets to enter the TFT-LCD industry, but it is not a factor which affects the entry model. 3. The difference of resource configuration will affect the entry model. 4. Intangible assets and organizational capabilities affect the entry model directly. 5. The effect of internal resource factors on the entry model is more powerful than the external environment factors. Key words : Entry Model¡BTFT-LCD .

Internationalization and entry strategy of enterprises

Gao, Dawei January 2008 (has links)
A lot of theories have been propounded that has made great contribution to the enterprise internationalization and entry strategy. However, no acceptable conclusion has been made on how firms internationalized and what is factors influenced firms choose their strategy. This development necessitates further study on the firms internationalization and entry strategy. Hence the research was explorative in nature and adductive approach was comprehensive adopted with interview. Further more, the firms have been using various approaches in entering their target market. Some prefer to consolidate their position at home and concentrated their efforts on exporting, while other took aggressive steps and invested directly in the foreign market. Thus, the study examined the entry strategy of firms, and the factors that influence the choice. This was aimed to gain deeper insight on how firms enter the target market. From the findings, it was revealed that, Huawei had adopted partnership, establishment of owned subsidiaries and make high technology co-operation in the world, while the company resorted to strategic alliance and joint venture after the China economic reformed till present moment. Moreover, we found that the owner and management exerted their influence on strategic direction of the firm, but the choice of entry strategy was mostly influenced by firm vision, business offering, resources and capacity, while market conditions acted as exogenous factors.

What re-entry means to women : a case study of documents from a transition-to-work program

Seabrooke, Lana January 1992 (has links)
This case study examines the meanings and perceptions of women with regard to their experience in a transition-to-work program. A qualitative methodology was used to analyse 123 personal documents written between the years 1986 and 1991 by women at or near the end of an intensive bridging program. Analysis of the data revealed that, if provided with a supportive learning environment, women can make significant progress not only towards identifying their goals but in self-development. The study highlights the value of such programs as vehicles for personal and social change. The results of this study also demonstrate the need for continued support for transition programs and an acknowledgement of the untapped capabilities of women.
