The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the exogenous application of ascorbic acid in the reduction of the damages caused by the accelerated aging and the salinity of soils, using sunflower seeds cultivar BRS122. Two experiments were developed. In the first experiment, preliminary tests were performed to obtain the best methodology for the application of ascorbic acid in sunflower seeds. In the second experiment, the effect of pre- and post-treatments with ascorbic acid on the attenuation of the harmful effects caused by accelerated aging, together with imbibition in sodium chloride and sodium chloride with ascorbic acid, was analyzed. / A cultura do girassol (Helianthus annuus, L) é considerada de grade importância para a produção de óleo em todo mundo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação exógena de ácido ascórbico na redução dos danos ocasionados pelo envelhecimento acelerado e pela salinidade de solos, utilizando sementes de girassol cultivar BRS122. Foram desenvolvidos dois experimentos. Analisou-se, no primeiro experimento, testes preliminares para obtenção da melhor metodologia de aplicação do ácido ascórbico em sementes de girassol. No segundo experimento, analisou-se o efeito do pré- e pós-tratamentos com ácido ascórbico na atenuação dos efeitos danosos provocados pelo envelhecimento acelerado, juntamente com embebições em cloreto de sódio e cloreto de sódio com ácido ascórbico.
