Beyond growth: new alliances for socio-ecological transformation in Austria

Soder, Michael, Niedermoser, Kathrin, Theine, Hendrik 09 April 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Trade unions and environmental movements are often seen as political opponents most prominently discussed in the form of the "jobs vs. environment dilemma". Based on historical examples of the conflict relations between trade unions and environmental groups in the Austrian energy sector, this paper showcases how the relationship between the two groups has changed from enmity to first attempts at alliance building. Drawing from analysis of union documents and problem-centred interviews conducted with Austrian unionists, it shows that newly emerging alliances between unions and environmental movements contain the seeds for a broad societal movement that can help overcome the paradigm of growth and actively engage in the creation of policies that support a social-ecological transformation.

Právní nástroje ochrany životního prostředí v českém právu / Instruments of environmental protection in Czech law

Rychecký, Albert January 2021 (has links)
The subject of this diploma thesis are instruments of environmental protection, which are used in the Czech legal system. With the aid of these instruments the state and other institutions try to ensure the most effective environmental protection. The instruments of environmental protection are divided into two basic groups. On one hand there are instruments with direct effect, on the other hand instruments with indirect effect. In the first group belong instruments administrative, conceptual, vindicatory and special. Economical instruments fall into the second group. Administrative instruments include primarily different commands, restrictions, permissions, standpoints, expressions, standards and limits. They are about actions that are applied by public authorities. To the conceptual instruments belong different conceptions, plans and programs that represent certain long-term documents of human aiming in a certain area. To the vindicatory instruments belong fines and other forms of penalties. We distinguish tort liability and responsibility for environmental damage. Economical instruments consist mainly of taxes and fees. They are distinguished by distinct effect on addressees by the fact, that they provide them the possibility for the choice of behaviour. To the special instruments belong...

The city of Santos, home to the largest national port, which is also considered the largest port in extension and ability to export and storage of cargo in Latin America, has been feeling the environmental impacts of the activities a few years ago; the movement of dry bulk made in terminals installed in Ponta da Praia _ neighborhood region is largely responsible for the emission and dispersion of particulate matter in the atmosphere, causing bad smell and cardiorespiratory problems in the population. The particles dispersed in the atmosphere eventually being deposited on the ground, destroying public property and private due to corrosive chemical composition. According to studies by Cetesb, the picture is worrying in view have already been found exceeded the maximum levels of air quality standards. Given this situation, action was filed by the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil in the face of the Mayor of the city of Santos, which enacted a law prohibiting the installation of bulk terminals in the Ponta da Praia region. In the present work, said the question of the triple responsibility of polluters and the importance of preserving the environment for present and future generations, highlighting the importance of the good inherent in human life, which can not be relegated to the background in face of economic interests.

Alp, Elvan 01 January 2005 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this study is four fold: (1) to determine 6th, 8th and 10th grade students&rsquo / environmental knowledge and attitudes, (2) to investigate the effect of the grade level and gender on students&rsquo / environmental knowledge and attitudes, (3) to examine environmental knowledge and attitudes of 10th grade students, exposed to &ldquo / Human and Environment&rdquo / course and those not exposed to this course, (4) to explore the relationship between participants&rsquo / environmental knowledge and attitudes. In this study the data was obtained by the administration of Turkish version of Children&rsquo / s Environmental Attitudes and Knowledge Scale (T-CHEAKS) as a measuring instrument to 2536 students from 18 randomly selected elementary schools and 10 secondary schools throughout &Ccedil / ankaya and Yenimahalle districts of Ankara in spring 2003-2004 semester. The data were analyzed by using two-way analyses of variance (ANOVA), independent-samples t test and bivariate correlations. A statistically significant effect of grade level was found on environmental knowledge and attitudes. While no statistically significant effect of &ldquo / Human and Environment&rdquo / course was found on environmental knowledge of 10th grade level students, &ldquo / Human and Environment&rdquo / course had a significant effect on attitudes toward the environment in favor of students exposed to this course. The gender difference on environmental knowledge was statistically significant for 6th grade students in favor of males. On the other hand, for each grade levels, females had more favorable environmental attitudes than males. Bivariate correlations revealed low, but positive correlation between students&rsquo / environmental knowledge and attitudes.
