A teoria das representações sociais, apresentada por Moscovici na década de 1950, é uma forma de interpretação de diferentes elementos que compõem a vida humana, construídas a partir de experiências, ideologias e de pensamentos repassados por membros do mesmo grupo ou pelos meios de comunicação. Busca-se conhecer as representações sociais dos estudantes de ensino médio sobre a biblioteca para que seja possível alinhar as necessidades informacionais e culturais destes com o papel da biblioteca escolar. A pesquisa bibliográfica apresenta os temas: ensino médio, representações sociais, biblioteca escolar e comunicação e mediação da informação. Foram utilizados como instrumentos de coleta o questionário sobre questões informacionais dos estudantes e um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturada, para aprofundar nas experiências em bibliotecas e uso da informação 20 alunos de dez escolas públicas diferentes. Foi utilizado o Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo (DSC) para analisar e categorizar os dados das entrevistas realizadas. Alguns resultados ilustraram a visão existente dos estudantes sobre a biblioteca, a busca por um ambiente informacional de interação com os colegas, com uma atmosfera mais alegre e dinâmica. / This study aims to identify the social representations of high school students about the school library. The theory of social representations, by Moscovici in the 1950s, is a form of interpretation of different elements that make up human life, built from experiences, ideologies and passed by members of the same group or by the media thoughts. It’s necessary understanding the social representations of high school students about the library that can possible align the informational and cultural needs of those with the role of the school li brary. The literature presents the themes: high school, social representations, school library and mediation and communication of information. They were used as collection instruments the questionnaire on informational issues of students and a semi-structured interview guide, to deepen the experiences in libraries and use of information 20 students from ten different public schools. The Collective Subject Discourse (DSC) was used to analyze and categorize data through interviews. Some results have illustrated the existing students' views about the library, the search for an informational environment interaction with peers, with a more lively and dynamic atmosphere.
