Trata-se de um momento em que determinados espa?os do estado come?aram a ser ligados por caminhos adaptados ao tr?fego de ve?culos automotores, tendo em vista os interesses de determinados grupos pol?ticos que, ? ?poca, buscaram exercer suas hegemonias no territ?rio norte-rio-grandense ao reivindicarem o progresso das estradas para os espa?os que se nomeavam defensores: no litoral, os interesses dos Albuquerque Maranh?o e no sert?o, os interesses da oligarquia do Serid?. Al?m disso, o processo de constru??o das estradas de rodagem no Rio Grande do Norte teve um avan?o significativo na liga??o dos espa?os de produ??o econ?mica a partir dos anos 1920 com a atua??o da Inspetoria Federal de Obras Contra as Secas (IFOCS) no estado, evidenciando poss?veis tens?es entre os interesses dos engenheiros dessa institui??o no planejamento do tra?ado das estradas e a realidade que encontraram no campo de trabalho. Desse modo, pretendemos compreender at? que ponto as estradas e o autom?vel atenderam a tais interesses e quais os efeitos desses meios de transportes na configura??o do territ?rio norte-rio-grandense. Com base na an?lise de not?cias e mat?rias do peri?dico A Republica, das mensagens dos governadores do estado e dos relat?rios da Inspetoria Federal de Obras Contras as Secas (IFOCS), foi poss?vel identificar nesse processo o ritmo e andamento das obras, assim como tamb?m os interesses e os conflitos envolvidos no processo de constru??o das estradas. / This research has focused on studying the highways and the automobile in Rio Grande do Norte during the years 1914-1934. This is a time when certain state spaces began to be linked by paths adapted to the traffic of motor vehicles, with a view to the interests of certain political groups at the time, sought to exercise their hegemony in the north of Rio Grande territory to claim the progress of roads to the spaces that they used to named defenders: on the coast, the interests of Albuquerque Maranh?o family?s subjects and in the hinterland, the interests of Serid??s individuals. Moreover, the process of the highways construction in Rio Grande do Norte was a significant step forward in linking economic production spaces from the 1920s with the Federal Works Inspectorate Against Drought (IFOCS) work in the state, showing a conflict of interest of that institution?s engineer in relation to the developed planning in tracing these pathways and the reality found at the work field. This way, the central issue of this research seeks to understand to wich extent the roads and the automobile responded to these interests, trying to think what the effects of such means of transport over North Rio Grande territory? configuration. Based on news and journal reports of The Republic periodical analysis, governors of the state messages and the Federal Works Inspectorate Against Drought (IFOCS) reports we were able to identify in this process the pace and progress of the works, as well as the interests and conflicts involved in these ways construction process.
