Os objetivos da pesquisa foram conhecer e analisar quais as práticas de leitura realizadas por meio do computador e do papel pelos alunos. Dessa forma foi possível depreender e analisar os sentidos que estes alunos atribuem a esses diferentes suportes de leitura. O embasamento teórico metodológico deste estudo apoiou-se nas contribuições de pesquisas de natureza etnográfica, para subsidiar a intenção de recuperar o contexto social, cultural e escolar dos sujeitos, para, dessa forma, contextualizar suas práticas e sentidos de leitura durante a análise. Buscaram-se, também, contribuições acerca de estudos de natureza quantitativa, a fim representar inicialmente os dados em gráficos e tabelas, abrangendo todos os estudantes do Ensino Médio da escola em questão. Contudo, a apropriação desses recursos não caracteriza este estudo como quantitativo. Durante as análises observou-se que ao papel os alunos parecem atribuir um sentido escolar de leitura, enquanto que ao computador atribuem o sentido de leitura para o lazer e trabalho, de modo que a leitura no computador se configura para os alunos como uma quase não leitura, pois não tem finalidade escolar. As práticas de leitura dos alunos diferenciaram-se em particularidades significativas; contudo, aproximaram-se quando eles apontaram os sites de relacionamento como práticas de leitura na tela, deixando em segundo lugar os textos para pesquisa escolar / Faced with a context of quick and continuous technological advances, this work put in evidence the use of the computer as a reading medium for secondary students from a public school in Tarumã city, São Paulo state. In order to do that, it was also necessary to analyze the paper as a reading medium which has been sharing its reading function with the computer screen. The objective of this work was to know and to analyse what are the reading practices done by the students through the computer and through the paper. The theoretical methodological reference was based in conceptions of ethnographic studies, in order to recover the students social, cultural e academic context and thereby contextualize their reading practices and meanings during the analysis. It was also sought contributions in quantitative nature studies, in order to represent, initially, data in graphics and tables, embracing all the secondary school students studied. However, the use of this resource do not characterize this study as a quantitative one. During the analysis it was observed that the students seems to attribute a scholar meaning to reading while reading in paper, as to the computer screen readings it was attributed a leisure and work meaning, which represents to the students an almost non reading activity, because it didn’t have an academic purpose. The students reading practices was different in significant particularities, however, they were close when they pointed the relationship websites readings as the most read on screen, remaining the second most read the scholar research texts
