Nature can´t be seen as a simple source of raw material or a place of garbage of the industrial scrap. This idea, very used many years ago, resulted in environmental disequilibrium, that, nowadays, manifests itself in many ways: water polution, atmospheric polution, acid rain, destuction of the ozone layer. The erosive processes are only some examples of the environmetal problems that commit our quality of life. Therefore the research aimed to assess the conservation and restoration of riparian vegetation of paved Tunas, located in the Village Faguense in Frederico Westphalen, Rio Grande do Sul, in an integrated manner to environmental education the students are residents bordering the pavement. The 33 (thirty three) students participating were graduate studentsfrom the Biology Course of the Universidade Regional Integrada do Alto Uruguai e das Missões (URI), Campus de Frederico Westphalen, and among these, 10 (ten) were the subjects of research. The evaluation instrument consisted of questionnaires completed by students att different stages of the work, involving observation of three properties with different forms of isolation and cultivation of native forest and four different environmental situations. The creation of a teaching tool for community information and discussion with her was also on the schedule recovery of riparian vegetation. As a result, the students have shown maturity in relation to the responsibilities of all about the environment, reflected in a significant number of final papers of course (TCC or monographs) related to environmental issues. Among these, we should mention some already completed: Mapping of land use in the watershed of the Paved Tunas, Characterization and structural fragmentation of the landscape of Vista Alegre, Quality of water in the district of Saint Joseph in Frederico Westphalen, Milk quality in the rural area of Seberí, Phyto-sociological survey and Sarandi River, Water quality in the Ametista and Tenente Portela rural area. Evaluation of bean cultivars. Verification of river pollution by diatoms. Checking the quality of the environment of restaurants, snack bars and bakeries in Frederico Westphalen. Germination of Maytenus, among many others. This involved integration with the community and meets the expectation of this research in relation to the proposed objectives. / Sob o ponto de vista da melhoria da qualidade de vida e da própria sobrevivência das espécies sobre o planeta, a relação homem-natureza está sendo reavaliada. A natureza não pode mais ser vista como uma simples fonte de matéria-prima ou um local de despejo da sucata industrial, pois isso resultou em desequilíbrio ambiental, que atualmente manifesta-se de diversas formas: poluição hídrica, contaminação do solo e outras. E os processos erosivos são apenas alguns exemplos dos problemas ambientais que comprometem a qualidade de vida. Por isso a pesquisa teve o propósito de avaliar a conservação e recuperação da mata ciliar do lajeado Tunas, localizado na Vila Faguense, em Frederico Westphalen, no Rio Grande do Sul, de modo integrado a uma educação ambiental aos educadores e moradores ribeirinhos ao lajeado. Os 33 (trinta e três) educandos participantes eram alunos do Curso de Ciências Biológicas da Universidade Regional Integrada do Alto Uruguai e das Missões (URI), Campus de Frederico Westphalen, sendo que, entre esses, 10 (dez) constituíram os sujeitos da pesquisa. O instrumento de avaliação consistiu de questionários respondidos pelos educandos em diferentes épocas de realização do trabalho, envolvendo observação de três propriedades com diferentes formas de isolamento e plantio de mata nativa e quatro situações ambientais diferentes.A criação de instrumento didático para informação à comunidade e discussão com ela também fez parte de programação de recuperação da mata ciliar. Como resultado, os educandos mostraram amadurecimento em relaçao às responsabilidades de todos quanto ao meio ambiente, que se refletiu em número expressivo de Trabalhos de Conclusão de Curso (TCC) voltados à questão ambiental. Entre esses, podem ser destacados alguns já concluídos: Mapeamento dos usos do solo na microbacia do Lajeado Tunas; Caracterização e fragmentação dos elementos estruturais da paisagem de Vista Alegre; Qualidade de águas no distrito de São José em Frederico Westphalen; Qualidade do leite na zona rural de Seberi; Levantamento fito-sociológico no rio Sarandi; Qualidade de água na zona rural de Ametista e Tenente Portela. Avaliação de cultivares de feijão. Verificação da poluição do rio através de diatomáceas. Verificação da qualidade do ambiente de restaurantes, lancherias e padarias em Frederico Westphalen. Germinação de espinheira santa, entre outros tantos. Isso envolveu integração com a comunidade e correspondeu às expectativas da presente pesquisa em relação aos objetivos propostos.
