The Politics of Anti-Gender Campaigns: An Analysis of Congressional Debates In Peru Regarding the Educational Curriculum Reform

Arellano Salazar, Andrea 14 January 2022 (has links)
Through the lens of analyses of populist mobilizations informed by political sociology, this study offers a new perspective on tactics used by anti-gender campaigns. Specifically examining the Education Curriculum and the Enfoque de Igualdad de Género [Gender Equality Approach] in congressional debates in Peru in 2018 and 2019, this study uses a qualitative content analysis to identify central themes. The themes reveal tactics that sabotage feminist gains in educational reforms, spearheaded by Christian political actors. The argument is thus that Christian political actors use tactics such as coopting feminist concepts such as “gender” and re-framing it as “gender ideology”. This is an example of using “emotional epistemic loops” of information to achieve political goals, in this case advancing patriarchal Christian values and undermining feminist and gender equality gains.

Diakonická práce. Stručný nástin historie diakonie, České Diakonie a Diakonie Českobratrské církve evangelické. / The Work of Diaconia. A Short Overview of the History of Diaconia, Czech Diaconia and Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren.

Dolanská, Jiřina January 2021 (has links)
Diakonie as one of the most important services combines helping the needy and spiritual support. This service was already established in the early church and it focused on both material and spiritual area. The diploma thesis "The Work of Diaconia" with the subtitle "A Short Overview of the History of Diaconia, Czech Diaconia and Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren" describes diaconia from the point of view of the New Testament where it becomes helping a fellow man with the motivation of faith, i.e. following Jesus Christ. In next parts, diaconia is described from the period of early church until the Reformation. It is followed by the early days of diaconia in the Czech lands, the role of Kaiserswerth institute in Germany where Czech girls studied and some of them then used their knowledge about taking care of the ill and educating in their diaconic activities in the Czech lands. However, many of them continued living abroad. Priest Václav Šubert significantly contributed to the foundation of a first diaconic institution, girls' school or an orphanage in Krabčice, the birthplace of diaconia in the Czech lands. He and our first two deaconesses, Marie Karafiátová and Eleanora Kašparová, occupy more space in this work. In the next part, a historical development of Czech Diaconia...

Porovnání Evangelické církve augsburského vyznání (ECAV) a Evangelické církve metodistické (ECM) na Slovensku v základních věroučných otázkách a liturgických důrazech se zaměřením na přínos v ekumenickém sjednocení / A Comparison of the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession and Evangelical Methodist Church in Slovakia in their Basic Dogmatic Issues and Liturgical Emphasis Focusing on the Contribution in Ecumenical Union

Lukáč, Ivan January 2015 (has links)
The theme of this work is to compare the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession and the Evangelical Methodist Church in Slovakia, the basic issues of faith and liturgical emphases, focusing on the contribution of the ecumenical environment to refer first to the historical and theological background and then the difference in understanding Christian worship and its liturgical expression, in further outline the importance of sacramentology, spirituality, religious dogmatic. We also attempt to compare the emphasis in the understanding of doctrine and traditions of individual churches. Both Churches with its Protestant character bear the common name "Evangelical Church" and that is the reason why to deal and examine the differences and look for the content of unity. We have considered that in spite of historical and liturgical divergences combines both these churches the fundamental reformation principle of "Sola Scriptura", which means that in practice it is possible creating mutual ecumenical cooperation not only at the Ecumenical Council of Churches (ERC) in Slovakia, but also at the level of inter-mission activities of the churches and parishes.

Evangelíci a spiritismus v Podkrkonoší / Protestant congregations and Spiritualism in Podkrkonoší

Kletvík, Jan January 2013 (has links)
After 1781 there were established several Protestant congregations in Podkrkonoší (North-East Bohemia). Approximately one hundred years later, the whole region was greatly affected by Spiritualism, a belief in communication with spirits of the dead through mediums. My objective is to describe the attitudes of the Protestant congregations in Podkrkonoší towards Spiritualism and analyse their causes and effects. Understanding these attitudes will yield an insight into the character of the present congregations. For this purpose, I studied the congregations in Libštát, Křížlice, and Jičín. In particular I focused on their parish priests because they had the control over their flock in these questions. I went through the archival materials of the respective congregations as well as personal diaries, and I analysed the memories of several interviewed people. These findings were then compared with the attitudes of some congregations in Great Britain. The results revealed three different approaches of the priests. Some were very radical, which led to excommunication of Spiritualists. Others were rather tolerant, which resulted in integration of Spiritualists. Finally, some priests were quite secretive, so their parishioners may not have seen a clear line between Spiritualism and Christianity.

The challenge of poverty for the church in Zambia : a response to the effects of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP)

Mambwe, Evaristo M. January 2002 (has links)
The effects of the Structural Adjustment Programmes (SAP) that have been the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) prescribed economic reforms have accentuated poverty levels in Zambia. For the majority ofthe population, the Structural Adjustment Programmes have exacerbated poverty if not directly contributing to it. This paper argues that poverty has a historical aspect dating back to the colonial strategy of establishing and perpetuating rural-urban dual structures. The Zambian government upon attainment of independence continued this dual economic structure. The dualist approach favoured urban areas at the expense of rural areas in terms of social and economic development. To date it is estimated that 80% of Zambia's population of about ten million people (2000 Census) lives under conditions of abject poverty. The Zambian economy did well in the first ten years of independence (1964 -1974), but went on a continuous decline from that period to date. Both internal and external factors have contributed to the continuous steep decline ofthe economy and subsequent increase in poverty levels. Among efforts to turn round the economy, the Zambian government in cooperation with the IMF and World Bank embarked on the Structural Adjustment Programmes (SAP). President Kenneth Kaunda hesitatingly introduced the first SAP in 1981. The economic reforms, particularly the decontrol of prices and abolition of subsidies resulted in the increase of prices of foodstuffs leading to civil disobedience, violence, riots, looting and deaths in 1986. The SAP also contributed to income disparities. In 1991 when Frederick Chiluba won the presidency, he implemented the SAP fully. The implementation ofthe SAP meant the decontrol of prices and removal ofall forms of subsidies. The immediate effect was a rapid rise in prices and poverty levels. This paper argues that in the face of this poverty the involvement of the Church has not been as comprehensive as taught by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Emphasis has r-emained on spiritual emancipation with little stress on material well-being. Equally there has not been participation in decision-making by the affected people as the government and the donor-community make most decisions without consulting the citizens. There also seems to have evolved a culture ofdependence on "handouts" or free things, and lack of good work ethics and standards. The improvement in the standards of life of the people may be realized if the Church through its prophetic ministry challenges global capitalism so that the powerful and rich western countries accept the New World Order that the Third World has been advocating for many years. The Church should also voice the fact that the Zambian politics and economic policies should not be motivated by profit making and individual gain but by a desire for hard work and fair distribution of the world and nation's wealth. It is further proposed that the best economic and development policies are those that sustain human life and bring a better life in every human community. This ideal may be fulfilled if the Church through its diaconal ministry gets involved in developmental issues. / Thesis (M.Th.)-University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2002. / Christian Aid (UK) through the University of Natal, School of Theology,
