Background: Palliative care is an important area in health care as patients' quality of life is at the center. The goal of end-of-life care is to provide the patient with good care, relieve suffering and relieve symptoms. To be able to provide such care requires specific knowledge, attitudes and skills. Previous research shows that end-of-life care is something that nurses perceive as complex. Previous research also shows that the treatment of nurses is important. In the event of nurses' insecurity and in the event of poor communication, patients' and relatives' experience of palliative care deteriorates. Aim: To describe nurses' experiences of caring for patients at the end of life. Method: Systematic literature study according to Evans' descriptive synthesis. Results: After analysis, two themes emerged; Experiences of personal and professional development and Existential difficulties. These describe nurses' experiences with four sub-themes. Conclusion: The majority of the nurses experienced existential difficulties in connection with the care of palliative patients. The nurses felt that they were unprepared for the meeting with the patients at the end of life.
