Projeto de uma perfuratriz multifuncional para execução de estacas e desenvolvimento de um ensaio de campo que utiliza o sistema de monitoração eletrônica da perfuratriz / Design of a multifunctional drilling rig for the construction of piles and development of a field test using its electronic monitoring system

Barreto, Gilmar Wilian 14 November 2014 (has links)
This thesis presents the design of a drilling rig that allows the execution of five types of deep foundation, and the development of a field test that allows measuring the skin friction resistance developed between the instrument involved by the excavated ground and the natural soil. The drilling rig was designed to make continuous flight auger, bored pile, continuous flight auger with segmented auger, root pile and hollow-auger pile. The continuous flight auger and bored piles are widely used in Brazil; the root pile and hollow-auger pile are used for in special conditions, and the continuous flight auger with segmented auger, is although more recent, but its application has had increased application grown in over the last ten years. For the multifunctional drilling rig, calculations and basic designs of the main sets are presented. For the new field test denominated FDT - Full Displacement Test, a theoretical development based on the universal principle of energy conservation was made carried out resulting and the result, in practical terms, was to obtain in the attainment of the skin friction defined in this thesis as equivalent unit skin friction (fse). The results obtained from the data acquired by the electronic monitoring system of drilling rigs were consistent among themselves, indicating the possibility of practically achieve the repeatability of the test. Among the various tests performed, emphasis was given to tests in the experimental field of foundations and geotechnics, of the College of Agricultural Engineering FEAGRI, Campinas University UNICAMP, and were correlated to the skin friction resistance obtained from the static load tests performed on site by Albuquerque (2001), based on the adjustments done to the instrumented level depth of 11.70 m, for which a factor (G2) was given in each type tested (bored, C.F.A and omega). From the adjustments made to the 11,70 m level, load-bearing capacity of skin friction predictions were made for other instrumented levels (5.00 m; 11.10 m and 12.00 m) presenting consistent results.

Estimation Of Object Shape From Scattered Field

Buvaneswari, A 11 1900 (has links)
The scattered field from an object, when illuminated with ultrasound, is useful in the reconstruction of it's cross section - a problem broadly classified as 'tomography'. In many situations of medical imaging, we will be interested in getting to know the location and the extent of growth of the inhomogeneity. The Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimation of the location and the shape parameters (of scale and orientation angle), has been done along with the corresponding CR bounds, for the case of weakly scattering objects, where the Fourier Diffraction Theorem(FDT) holds. It has been found that the a-priori information of a reference object function helps in drastic reduction of the number of receivers and illuminations required. For a polygonal object, the shape is specified, when the corner locations are known. We have formulated the problem as, estimation of the frequencies of sum of undamped sinusoids. The result is a substantial reduction in the number of illuminations and receivers required. For acoustically soft and rigid polygons, where the FDT does not hold, the necessary theory is developed to show the dependence of the scattered field on the corner location, using an On Surface Radiation Condition(OSRC). The corner locations are estimated along similar lines, to the one adopted for the weakly scattering objects.

Exploring nano-mechanics through thermal fluctuations

Bellon, Ludovic 23 November 2010 (has links) (PDF)
This mémoire presents my current research interests in micro and nano-mechanics in a comprehensive manuscript. Our experimental device is first presented: this atomic force microscope, designed and realized in the Laboratoire de Physique de l'ENS Lyon, is based on a quadrature phase differential interferometer. It features a very high resolution (down to 10 fm/rtHz) in the measurement of deflexion, down to low frequencies and on a huge input range. The dual output of the interferometer implies a specific handling to interface common scanning probe microscope controllers. We developed analog circuitries to tackle static (contact mode) and dynamic (tapping mode) operations, and we demonstrate their performance by imaging a simple calibration sample. As a first application, we used the high sensitivity of our interferometer to study the mechanical behavior of micro-cantilevers from their fluctuations. The keystone of the analysis is the Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem (FDT), relating the thermal noise spectrum to the dissipative part of the response. We apply this strategy to confront Sader's model for viscous dissipation with measurements on raw silicon cantilevers in air, demonstrating an excellent agreement. When a gold coating is added, the thermal noise is strongly modified, presenting a 1/f like trend at low frequencies: we show that this behavior is due to a viscoelastic damping, and we provide a quantitative phenomenological model. We also characterize the mechanical properties of cantilevers (stiffness and Elastic Moduli) from a mapping of the thermal noise on their surface. This analysis validates the description of the system in term of its normal modes of oscillations in an Euler-Bernoulli framework for flexion and in Saint-Venant approach for torsion, but points toward a refined model for the dispersion relation of torsional modes. Finally, we present peeling experiments on a single wall carbon nanotube attached to the cantilever tip. It is pushed against a flat substrate, and we measure the quasi-static force as well as the dynamic stiffness using an analysis of the thermal noise during this process. The most striking feature of these two observables is a plateau curve for a large range of compression, the values of which are substrate dependent. We use the Elastica to describe the shape of the nanotube, and a simple energy of adhesion per unit length Ea to describe the interaction with the substrate. We analytically derive a complete description of the expected behavior in the limit of long nanotubes. The analysis of the experimental data within this simple framework naturally leads to every quantity of interest in the problem: the force plateau is a direct measurement of the energy of adhesion Ea for each substrate, and we easily determine the mechanical properties of the nanotube itself.

Optical Diffraction Tomography for the Refractive Index Profiling of Objects with Large Space-Bandwidth product

John, Jem Teresa January 2017 (has links) (PDF)
The primary goal of this work is to arrive at direction tomography (DT) algorithms freed from the severe linearization in the formulation, and as-assumptions on variation of the refractive index distribution (RID), involved in the earlier approaches based on Born and Royton approximations and the Fourier di reaction theorem (FDT). To start with, a direct single-step re-covery of RID from intensity measurements is demonstrated, replacing the common two-step procedure involving, rest the recovery of phase from in-density followed by the inversion of scattered led for the RID. The information loss, unavoidable in a two-step procedure is thus successfully addressed. Secondly, an iterative method which works with a forward model obtained directly from the Helmholtz equation is developed. This forward model, though has simplifying assumptions, is more general and can accommodate larger variations in RID than that allowed in the previous linear models. The iterative procedure has an update step which uses a linearization of the forward model and a re-linearization step at the updated RID. The procedure which directly employs the measured intensities is used as part of a deterministic Gauss-Newton algorithm and a stochastic optimization algorithm which uses the ensemble Kalman lter to arrive at the recursive update. The stochastic method is found to be more noise-tolerant and efficient to take care of process model inaccuracies. The proof is seen in better reconstructions from experimental data for two example objects, namely, a graded-index optical bre and a photonic-crystal bre. It is further ob-served that the reconstructions from photonic crystal bre are blurred, noisy and less accurate. Identifying the inaccurate implementation of the modemed Helmholtz equation for large k values employing the current sampling rate as the shortcoming, a new procedure, which splits the bandwidth into smaller components using short-time Fourier Transform is developed. The set of equations arrived at, each t for a narrow frequency band, is solved and the solutions are reassembled to obtain the scattered led for the original problem. The simulated di rated intensities so obtained are better matched to their measured experimental counterparts. However, the impel-mentation of the mode end procedure is computation-intensive, for which a parallel-processing machine can be a good solution. The recovery of RID with this mode cation is not attempted in this work and is left for future implementation.
