Genom alla tider har kulturen haft en stor betydelse för människan. I världen och i Sverige arbetas kontinuerligt med mål kopplade till social hållbarhet där kultur ingår. I denna uppsats utreds kulturens roll i stadsplaneringen och varför kultur är viktig för människan. Uppsatsen utgår från begreppet ​kulturnärvaro som anspelar på samhällets närvaro utifrån kulturella byggnader och verksamheter. Studien undersöker fallet Farsta stadsdel utifrån en litteraturstudie, en dokumentstudie, intervju med människor som arbetar med kultur och planering och en enkät till boende i Farsta stadsdel. Syftet blir att undersöka ​kulturnärvaron i Farsta stadsdel och stadsplanerarens roll i inkludering av kultur i planeringen. Kultur anses vara av vikt för människans liv och den sociala hållbarheten vilket gör kulturen av intresse att inkludera i stadsplaneringen. Stadsplaneringen kan skapa förutsättningar i den byggda miljön i ett tidigt skede och skapa möjligheter för att kunna placera kulturverksamheter vid flödet. En fullständig kartläggning över Stockholms stads kulturutbud kan utföras för att vägleda för en jämlik fördelning av stadens resurser. Kulturen som går att påverka genom stadsplaneringen är en liten del av ett större sammanhang och stadsplaneraren kan med fördel se till de begränsningar som finns. Generellt sett möter utbudet av kulturverksamheter de svarande i enkätens behov av kultur i stadsdelen. / Throughout time, culture has had a great impact on man. Across the world as well as in Sweden, the work connected to social sustainability and thereby culture, is becoming more known. This essay examines the culture in urban planning and the reason why culture is important in people's lives. The thesis is based on the concept of ​cultural presence​, which refers to the presence of society on the basis of cultural buildings and activities. The study examines the case of Farsta district based on a literature study, document study, interviews with people working with culture in planning and a survey for the residents in Farsta district. The purpose is to investigate the cultural presence in the Farsta district and discuss the city planners role in the work with culture. Because of the importance of culture for social sustainability, it is of interest to include culture in urban planning. Urban planning should create the right conditions in the built environment at an early stage and place the cultural activities where the most people pass in their daily life. A complete survey of the City of Stockholm's culture should be carried out in order to achieve an even distribution of the city's resources. The ​cultural presence is something to be achieved through many different fields and the city planner can with advantage see its limitations. Over all the supply of cultural activities meets the demand of the people participating in the survey
