Para essa investigação nos valemos das idéias apresentadas por Sandra M. Gilbert e Susan Gubar em The madwoman in the attic e nos três volumes de No man’s land, sendo o primeiro, The war of the words; o segundo, Sexchanges e o terceiro, Letters from the front. O trabalho ainda conta com os pressupostos teóricos de Elaine Showalter em A literature of their own: British women novelists from Brontë to Lessing e Toril Moi em Teoria literária feminista e de Mark Hussey em Virginia Woolf: A to Z entre outros / Virginia Woolf’s feminist ideas, which are explored in A room of one’s own and in Three Guineas, are also present in her novels. The corpus of the analysis comprises two of her most important novels - To the Lighthouse and Mrs. Dalloway. The intention is to demonstrate that there is a coherent body of thought in her work, which clearly indicates an aesthetic and political project that underpins her texts and defines her writing. The main theoretical texts that will be used are The Madwoman in the Attic, the three volums of No Man’s Land, the first The War of the Words, the second Sexchanges and the third Letters from the Front by Sandra M. Gilbert and Susan Gubar; A Literature of their Own: British Women Novelists from Brönte to Lessing by Elaine Showalter; Teoria Literária Feminista by Toril Moi and Mark Hussey’s Virginia Woolf: A to Z among others

Woman in Spanish Culture as Reflected in the Drama of Jacinto Benavente

Cowen, Cheryl Lee Price 08 1900 (has links)
This is a study of the feminist content of the dramas of Jacinto Benavente (1866-1954) whose dramatic career spanned the same sixty years during which the most spectacular feminist advances took place in Spain. To this end twenty-nine plays are considered to illustrate topically Benavente's conception of the nature of Spanish women and his attitudes with regard to their position in society. It is concluded that Benavente in his first period of dramatic output drew into focus the problems confronting Spanish women in their culture, but in his second period (after 1920), however, he failed to portray adequately the modern female and her approach to the changing environment. Nevertheless, at its best, Benavente's drama constitutes a great contribution to feminist literature.

AUTO-FEM: ESSAYS

Santos, Krystin 01 January 2018 (has links)
Auto Fem: Essays is a nonfiction essay collection revolving around one young woman’s family and their relationship to the motors that accelerate familial bonds. Each motor-related essay brings readers deeper into the admiration of speed and the environment that surrounds it. The essays span from the author's childhood into adulthood, revealing the different ways a woman is sexualized within these subcultures. This sexualization leads to internal battles for the female participant that result in sometimes toxic eating habits and a complicated body image. The author provides a sometimes brutal, sometimes funny, but always honest view. The essays collected here explore one woman's experience of being a woman within male-dominated spaces-- from table gambling in casinos to Harley Davidson motorcycle rallies. These essays explore over twenty years of one nuclear family's love for motors and each other.

A HOUSE WITH PEOPLE IN IT: STORIES

Johnson, Isabelle 01 January 2019 (has links)
A House with People in It is a collection of stories working through concepts of identity, family, relationships, and how those things renew and replace themselves in perpetuity. I think of identity less of a rigid, singular thing and more of a swirling, fluid multitude. If the body is a house, then identity is the people who live inside it. How they live next to each other—who butts up against who, who sleeps in what bed—is what’s interesting to me. These works collected in this thesis are largely the stories that I think hew closest to the things that I am concerned with, in the identities that I occupy.
