Les historiens de l’environnement s’attachent à déchiffrer les modes de relation entre l’homme et la nature aux Etats-Unis. La manière dont elle est définie conditionne les politiques environnementales, et donc contribue à la transformation matérielle du continent. Cinq traditions de la pensée environnementale américaine sont décrites : la nature comme ressource transformée par le travail ; le préservationnisme ; le conservationnisme ; l’écologie ; et la justice environnementale. Ces idées perdurent au XXIème siècle dans les discours construits au sujet de la nature : elles se juxtaposent ou se confrontent. L’objectif de ce travail est de savoir si elles se transforment, en évoluant vers une définition de la relation homme/nature comme hybride socionaturel. À cette fin, trois cas sont étudiés, tous situés dans la région de Los Angeles au début des années 2000. Le premier concerne le ranch Tejon, dont l’accord passé en 2008 entre associations de protection de la nature et propriétaires pose la question du sens donné à une préservation qui veut prendre en compte les aspects à la fois écologiques, mythiques et économiques de ce territoire, vestige du passé de l’Ouest. Le second se rapporte à la décision prise en 2007 par la ville de Los Angeles de revitaliser son fleuve et fournit un exemple de l’élargissement de la définition de la nature : celle-ci peut être urbaine. Enfin, troisième cas, la justice environnementale appliquée à la ferme communautaire de South Central Los Angeles, entretenue de 1994 à 2006, est signe de la transition de la pensée de la nature américaine d’un objet délimité dans l’espace vers une problématique mondiale. / Environmental historians have worked at redefining the modes of relationship between man and nature in the United States. The way this relation is defined conditions environmental politics, and therefore contributes to the material transformation of the continent. Five major trends of thought about nature are described: nature as a resource transformed by work ; preservationism ; conservationism ; ecology ; and environmental justice. Those ideas endure to this very day in the discourses constructed about nature: they either juxtapose or confront each other. The goal of this thesis is to understand whether they undergo a transformation, evolving towards a definition of the man/nature relationship as a socionatural hybrid. To this end, three cases are examined here, all of which are connected with the Los Angeles area in the early 2000s. The first concerns Tejon Ranch and the agreement passed in 2008 about Tejon Ranch between environmental associations and the owners : it poses the question of the meaning given to a preservation that would incorporate ecological, mythical and economic aspects of that territory, a remain of the Western past. The second deals with the decision that was made in 2007 by the City of Los Angeles to revitalize its river and offers a good example of the broadening of the definition of nature: it can also be urban. The ecological and cultural preoccupations about the river complicate the conservation problematic in Southern California. Finally, South Central Farm’s environmental justice case (1994-2006) is the sign of a transition in American environmental ideas from a clearly spatially limited object to a world issue.

Cette étude propose l'analyse de la représentation de l'amour homosexuel au théâtre et au cinéma, plus précisément dans le texte Tom à la ferme de Michel Marc Bouchard (2009) et son adaptation cinématographique par Xavier Dolan (2013). À l'aide des réflexions issues des théories queer et des théories de l'adaptation, l'objectif est de démontrer les similitudes et les différences entre les deux œuvres et d'interroger comment la représentation de l'amour homosexuel dans Tom à la ferme est devenue plurielle dans son adaptation cinématographique par rapport au texte original. De manière plus générale, ce mémoire s'intéresse à deux artistes québécois issus de deux générations différentes et met en relief leurs visions de l'amour homosexuel dans un contexte social hétéronormatif. La présente étude s'aligne également à la partie création de ce mémoire qui est l'écriture d'un texte théâtral. L'objectif est alors de prendre appui sur des caractéristiques relevées chez Michel Marc Bouchard tout en incluant des procédés cinématographiques dans les indications de mise en scène. Ces influences sont intégrées à la présente création au prisme des théories queer et de l'adaptation. La première partie du mémoire est consacré à la création de Juste un(e). La fable présente un amour du quotidien entre deux jeunes femmes : Luz et June. Comme toute relation, les deux protagonistes font face à des conflits. Néanmoins, à la différence d'une relation hétérosexuelle, une problématique de l'amour homosexuel en société vient s'ajouter. Une rupture s'opère alors. Le personnage de Luz tombe dans un enfer psychologique où elle se retourne contre elle-même. La suite du mémoire consiste en une recherche divisée en trois chapitres. Le premier porte sur la représentation de l'amour homosexuel dans le texte de Michel Marc Bouchard, précisément l'analyse du texte dramatique : le schéma narratif, les tableaux et les personnages. Le deuxième s'intéresse à la représentation de l'amour homosexuel dans le film Tom à la ferme, réalisé par Xavier Dolan. Il propose une analyse du film et son esthétisme, ainsi que la création d'une nouvelle atmosphère dans Tom à la ferme. Le troisième se penche sur l'adaptation du texte au cinéma. Par le biais d'une étude comparative, les théories de l'adaptation sont mises en avant pour comprendre comment l'amour homosexuel est représenté par le dramaturge et par le cinéaste ; qu'est-ce que le texte de théâtre peut se permettre et qu'est-ce que le cinéma peut ajouter et/ou enlever ? / This study offers an analysis of the homosexual love representation in theatre and cinema; more precisely in the text Tom at the Farm by Michel Marc Bouchard and its film adaptation by Xavier Dolan. Using reflections from queer theories and adaptations theories, the objective aims to demonstrate how the evolution of queer theories as well as the adaptation from one medium to another allows a plural vision of representation, here homosexual love, in Tom at the Farm. More generally, this thesis positions two Quebec artists, from two different generations, and highlights their vision of representation in a heteronomous social context. The creation part of this dissertation is the writing of a theatrical text aiming to link the queer theme as well as the aestheticism of Xavier Dolan. The objective is to use the writing through characteristics noted in Michel Marc Bouchard while including cinematographic processes in the direction indications. Obviously, this creation will not be a copy of the two authors studied but an influence based on what we have learned in the research part. The first part of the thesis is the creation of Juste un(e). The fable presents a daily love between two young women: Luz and June. Like any relationship, the two protagonists face conflicts. Nevertheless, unlike a heterosexual relationship, a problem of homosexual love in society is added. The rupture takes place. Luz's character falls into a psychological hell where she turns against herself. The first chapter deals with the representation of homosexual love in the text of Michel Marc Bouchard, precisely the analysis of the text, the importance of theatrical procedures often specific to the author's writing, and their consequence in the representation of homosexual love. The second chapter looks at the portrayal of homosexual love in the film Tom at the Farm, the film by Xavier Dolan. The analysis of the film, the aestheticism of Dolan and his choice on creating a new atmosphere in Tom at the Farm. The final chapter of this dissertation examines the adaptation of the text to the film. Through the comparative study, adaptation theories will be put forward to understand how homosexual love is represented by the playwright and by the filmmaker; what the theatre text can afford and what can be the cinema add and/or take away. So, it is through the queer approach and theories of adaptation that we will be able to carry out this research.
