Moreira, Paulo Roberto. January 2004 (has links)
Therefore, the recuperation initial success of damaged ecosystem depends on management practices to be done at the site and species of the regional flora, thus beginning the reestablishment of ecological processes. This study involves an evaluation of management techniques for the improvement of physical-chemical properties of the soil and vegetation growth in a bauxite mine area, developed from April 2000, to September 2004. The research project was carried out in a bauxite extraction area, placed at Cia Geral of Minas, enterprise of the ALCOA Group in Poços de Caldas. The aims of the study were to verify the effect of the deep plowing, the topsoil, the correction of the soil fertility, and the green manure in the recovering of the degraded areas, evaluated by the growth and arboreal species development of the regional flora, as a function of the interaction with the soil management procedures. The soil is an association of Dystrochrepts/Udorthents. An experimental design of random blocs with split plot was adopted in which the main plots comprised both treatments, with and without deep plowing, and the secondary, as follows: T with liming, non fertilizer application, with direct sowing plus addition of litter (28 kg) for subplot; F mineral fertilization and liming after planting of 18 arboreal species of regional flora; L treatment F plus summer green manure and mixed sowing with some arboreal species of the regional flora; C- treatment F plus topsoil replacement. The survival, height, individual diameter at soil level were verified twelve and twenty-four months after seedlings planting, and the canopy area after 18 months. The results allowed the conclusion that the initial success in the recovery damaged ecosystem...(Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Orientador: Osvaldo Aulino da Silva / Coorientador: José Carlos Casagrande / Banca: Francisco Manoel de Souza Braga / Banca: Lilian Casatti / Banca: Katharina E.
