Mynhardt, Ronald Henry 01 1900 (has links)
Yield on fixed interest bearing securities change as a result of changes in the supply and demand in the capital market. These changes in the yield influence the prices of fixed interest securities, as well as options on fixed interest securities and expose .investors in these instruments to investment risk. This study investigates the effect of changes in yield on the prices of fixed interest securities and options if no hedging against investment risk is instituted. Different techniques are compared to establish which technique will restrict investment risk effectively. This study shows that it is desirable to hedge investments in fixed interest securities and options against investment risk. Empirical tests were conducted on a variety of techniques to establish which technique would restrict investment risk effectively. The conclusion is that investment risk can be limited. A specific technique has been identified for each position in fixed interest securities and options that can hedge such a position effectively against investment risk in terms of profitability. / Business Management / MCOM (Bedryfsekonomie)

Feature based design for jigless assembly

Naing, Soe January 2004 (has links)
The work presented in this thesis was undertaken as part of the three-year ‘Jigless Aerospace Manufacture’ (JAM) project which was set-up to investigate and address the significant scientific, technological and economic issues to enable a new design, manufacture and assembly philosophy based on minimising product specific jigs, fixtures and tooling. The main goal of the JAM project at Cranfield was the development of appropriate jigless methods and principles, and the subsequent redesign of the JAM project demonstrator structure – a section of the Airbus A320 aircraft Fixed Leading Edge – to fully investigate and realise the capabilities of jigless methodologies and principles. The particular focus of research activity described in this thesis was the development of a methodology to design for jigless assembly and a process of selecting assembly features to enable jigless assembly. A review of the literature has shown that no methodologies exist to specifically design for jigless assembly; however, previous relevant research has been built upon and extended with the incorporation of novel tools and techniques. To facilitate the assembly feature selection process for jigless assembly, an Assembly Feature Library was created that broadened and expanded the conventional definition and use of assembly features. The developed methodology, assembly feature selection process and Feature Library have been applied and validated on the JAM project demonstrator structure to serve as a Case Study for the tools and techniques developed by the research. Additionally, a Costing Analysis was carried out which suggests that the use of the tools and techniques to enable jigless assembly could have a large and considerable impact on both the Non-Recurring and Recurring costs associated with the design, manufacture and assembly of aircraft.

As ciclagens mecânica, termomecânica e intrabucal reduziram a resistência à flexão do material. / This study aimed to evaluate the behavior of lithium disilicate ceramic in similar condition to a partial fixed prosthesis of three elements by subjecting to three types of aging (n=10): mechanical cycling, thermomechanical cycling, both according to the protocols used in the literature, and intraoral cycling. The intraoral cycling was accomplished by using an intraoral device, which is similar to an occlusal splint. They were installed with the samples (CP) by means of a metallic device that was fixed in balanced contact condition with the remainder of the occlusal surface of the plate. These plates were used in ten volunteers for eight hours during the evening. After fatigue, the samples were subjected to three-point bending tests with clamped ends to evaluate the residual strength. The residual strength results were submitted to descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential by the parametric analysis of variance (ANOVA), with one factor and Tukey test ( = 0.05). In addition, representative samples of each group were observed in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) for fractographic analysis. The cycling condition influenced the mechanical behavior of ceramic with statistical significance of (p = 0,000), and the intraoral cycling group showed the lowest residual flexural strength. In fractographic analysis, they showed that the origin of fracture was in the tensile zone, but there was a secondary fracture origin represented by a twisted zone. Therefore, all types of cycling influenced the flexural strength of the material.

Zequetto, Michele Marques. January 2009 (has links)
Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of the compressive strength physical property of phosphate-bonded investment materials indicated for high casting temperatures, utilizing conventional heating (CHM) and quick heating methods (QHM), and analyze the surface roughness and the dimensional accuracy of the final casting product (the metallic piece) obtained from Ni-Cr (Verabond II) and Ni-Cr-Ti (Fit Cast Titanium) metallic alloys. Castorit Super C, Castorit All Speed, Heat Shock and Micro Fine 1700 investment materials were poured into a silicone matrix in order to obtain cylindrical samples (n=200), measuring 10mm in diameter and 20mm in length. Their strength (MPa) was determined at room temperature (green strength) after 15, 30 and 60 minutes of manipulation, and also immediately after being submitted to the CHM and QHM heating methods (fired strength), by means of an universal testing machine at 0,05mm/min speed and 150kgf load. After investing, applying the heating methods and casting the samples (n=120) for surface roughness (Ra), the samples were evaluated with a Mitutoyo Surftest SJ-400 profilometer with 0,8mm cut-off, three times in each sample. The dimensional accuracy was determined by the difference among the dimensional values of the wax and of the metallic piece (n=60) through the software AutoCad2008. The mean values obtained were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey tests (p <0.05), and the results showed that the values of compressive strength were different among the investment materials (Heat Shock presenting the highest values) and among the analysis times with a direct relation of time and strength increase, but there was no difference between CHM and QHM. Moreover, it was observed no differences... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Doutor
