PERFORMANCE OF THE EXTENDED TIME DIVERSITY TECHNIQUE IN REAL FLIGHT TEST CONDITIONSBlanc, Grégory, Skrzypczak, Alexandre, Pierozak, Jean-Guy 10 1900 (has links)
The emission of the telemetry signal is required over minimum two different antennas to keep the telemetry link available during a maneuver of a flying object. If nothing is made at the transmitter side, the telemetry link can be fully lost as both signals may have an opposite phase. This is the well-known “2-antennas problem”, also known as the “porcupine effect”. In 2016, Zodiac Data Systems (ZDS) presented a pragmatic and cost effective concept named eXtended Time Diversity (XTD) which is dedicated to combat the porcupine effect. The efficiency of this concept was demonstrated through lab tests, as well as its robustness in presence of multipath. The goal of this paper is to present the performance of the Extended Time Diversity in real conditions, after a series of flight tests.

Development of a Tailored Flight Test Approach for Small Unmanned Aircraft SystemsWolfe, Neil A 01 September 2019 (has links) (PDF)
This document contains the details of a study conducted to determine an effective performance flight test approach specifically for small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). This was done by taking proven procedures and documentation from the FAA and the Air Force for manned aircraft and tailoring them specifically for use with sUAS flight test programs. A ‘sUAS Flight Testing Handbook’ was created from the proceedings to aid commercial organizations and recreational developers conducting sUAS research without access to flight test experience. A performance flight test program was conducted with the AeroVironment RQ-20 Puma sUAS using the developed approach to verify that the ‘sUAS Flight Test Handbook’ was effective at guiding the test program safely and effectively. The development of the handbook, the results of the Puma Flight Test Program (PFTP), and the instructional ‘sUAS Flight Test Handbook’ itself are detailed throughout this report. The handbook includes a set of recommendations developed from experience with the PFTP that apply to both commercial and recreational developers of sUAS. A set of documentation is also provided in the form of instructional templates that plan the test program, report the results, and allow sUAS performance flight testing to be carried out safely and effectively.

AIR-GROUND TELEMETRY SYSTEMS FOR RESEARCH HELICOPTERSKasper, Eugene F., Leong, Gary 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 20-23, 2003 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / This paper describes the development of a compact mobile telemetry system using commercial-off-the-shelf components. The personal computer-based systems support microwave pulse code
modulation and serial spread-spectrum radio modem telemetry. The mobile ground station provides
data display and archiving of test activities, air-ground communications between experimenters and
the flight test crew, and acts as a flight test Differential Global Positioning System base station. The
success of the systems indicates that functional telemetry capabilities can be established for small
flight test programs at modest cost.

DATA COMMUNICATIONS OVER AIRCRAFT POWER LINESTian, Hai, Trojak, Tom, Jones, Charles 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2005 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-First Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 24-27, 2005 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / This paper introduces a study of the feasibility and initial hardware design for transmitting data over aircraft power lines. The intent of this design is to significantly reduce the wiring in the aircraft instrumentation system. The potential usages of this technology include Common Airborne Instrumentation System (CAIS) or clock distribution. Aircraft power lines channel characteristics are presented and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is introduced as an attractive modulation scheme for high-speed power line transmission. A design of a full-duplex transceiver with accurate frequency planning is then discussed. A general discussion of what communications protocols are appropriate for this technology is also provided.

Considerations for Deploying IEEE 1588 V2 in Network-Centric Data Acquisition and Telemetry SystemsNewton, Todd, Grim, Evan, Moodie, Myron 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2008 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Fourth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 27-30, 2008 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / Network-centric architectures continue to gain acceptance in data acquisition and telemetry systems. Though networks by nature impose non-deterministic transit time of data through a given link, the IEEE 1588 standard provides a means to remove this jitter by distributing time messages to the data acquisition units themselves. But like all standards, they evolve over time. The same is true with IEEE 1588, which is releasing its second version later this year. This paper discusses the challenges of the first version of the IEEE 1588 standard that Version 2 set out to address, potential challenges with Version 2, and interoperability issues that may arise when incorporating a mixture of Version 1 and Version 2 devices.

DEVELOPMENT OF A NETWORK-CENTRIC DATA ACQUISITION, RECORDING, AND TELEMETRY SYSTEMMoodie, Myron, Newton, Todd, Abbott, Ben 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2007 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Third Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2007 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / The growth of the Internet and the resulting increasing speeds and decreasing prices of network
equipment have spurred much interest in applying networks to flight test applications. However,
the best-effort, variable-latency nature of network transport causes challenges that must be
addressed to provide reliable data acquisition and timing performance. This paper describes the
major issues that must be addressed when designing and implementing real-time networking
applications. An overview of a recently implemented large-scale, network-centric data
acquisition, recording, and telemetry system for commercial flight test applications provides a
real-world example of what is currently achievable.

A WIRELESS NETWORK-BASED RFNET SOLUTION FOR FLIGHT TESTXuming, Fan, Xiaoxian, Bai, Baoqiang, Zhao, Junmin, Zhang 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2007 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Third Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2007 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / An rfNET solution based on IEEE 802.11 wireless network is presented to perform one-way
remote transmission of airborne instrumentation data and multi-channel video images in
flight test by modifying the wireless network bridge and UDP protocol. Its architecture and
structure is introduced briefly and the results of ground transmission test and flight
demonstration transmission are provided. It also points out the major problems of this
solution for engineering application and their solutions.
