The presented master thesis compares the effectiveness of geology teaching at primary school using a frontal and "alternative" teaching methods. For the research pupils were firstly tested in the form a didactic pre-test, which was focused on the basic knowledge of geology. Then two geological topics were selected and worked out following a frontal and interactive teaching methods (i.e., using Inquiry Based Science Education and multimedia). The topics were alternately taught in two groups (classes) of respondents at the primary schools. The difference in the effectiveness of the selected teaching methods was evaluated on the basis of the results of the post-test. According to the obtained results the teaching of geology at the primary school is definitely more efficient using "alternative" teaching methods in the comparison with frontal methods of teaching.

The presented master thesis describes methods of geology teaching at primary school and deals with the motivation of pupils in a connection with the application of a didactic game in teaching of geology and/or nature science. Data source was sampled via questionnaire in three groups of the respondents, i.e., teachers of geology (nature science), with 9th class pupils of primary school and university students of teaching training in biology. The theoretical part includes general data concerning motivation of pupils, teaching methods and a didactic game. The practical part contains methodology of the research, results of quantitative analysis and the author's didactic computer game which was tested and evaluated by the respondents. The obtained results show that the majority of pupils do not like geology however the integration of the didactic games in lessons can be increased pupil's interest in geology. The research has also found that university students have a different opinion on the teaching of geology than practising teachers. For example university students think that the unpopularity of geology among pupils is caused by teacher's personality, but according to opinion of the teachers it is caused by a general lack of attractivity of the subject. Similarly, the students accused the teacher of insufficient use of didactic games in geology teaching, but the teachers do not integrate didactic games in geology teaching due to lack of time.

This diploma thesis is focused on the teaching of paleontology and historical geology at the 2nd level of primary school within the educational subject of natural history. The theoretical part summarizes a problematic of paleontology in the Czech Republic, including its historical development, and presents the system of curricular documents of the Czech Republic primarily the Framework Education Program for Elementary Education. The main aim of the thesis is to compile five thematic teaching blocks from historical geology, which can be used in the teaching of natural history at the primary school and in the corresponding levels of multi-year grammar schools. The practical part described the teaching blocks including their methodology and three research surveys thematically aimed to identification of students' interest in paleontology within the blocks, students' ideas about an appearance of the dinosaurs, and their evaluation of dinosaur images from various popular books, feature films and toys. The interest of students in the teaching blocks was evaluated using a questionnaire survey (113 participates). This thesis deals with a flooded stone quarry near the village Hradec u Stodu. This quarry is examined from historical, biological and educational point of view. The thesis contains informations about history, ecology and environmental conditions of the examined lokality, results of geological, faunistic and floristic investigation and suggestion on the utilization of this lokality for biology and geology education in the field; work sheets for pupils are completed too. Found organism photogalery is attached in appendices. DVD containing a thorough photodocumentation is also a part of this thesis.
