_______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / Being the viral feline leukemia virus (FeLV) a complex disease that affects mostly the immune and hematologic system of the cat, the aim of this study was to quantify morphological changes in the thymus and spleen of cats positives and negatives. For evaluation of the thymus were quantified thymocytes, adipose tissue, thymic corpuscles, connective tissue, collagen type I and type III. In this case, were used five animals at group control (Gc) and two animals at diseased group (Gd). The thymocytes at negative FeLV animals (Gc) and positives (Gd) differ on the average of 55,16% ±6.15 to 44.81% ±6.15 (p=0.39); the adipocytes differ from 42.14%±5.97 (Gc) to 53.42%±11.3 (Gd) (p=0.34); the blood vessels changed from 0.85%±0.24 (Gc) to 1.75%±0.52 (Gd) (p=0.15); the thymic corpuscles were detected only 0.68%±0.19 at negatives animals (Gc). The connective tissue changed from 12.05%±0.68 (Gc) to 10.34%±0.62 (Gd) (p=0.009). Collagen presence type I (p=0.30) and type III (p=0.59) were, respectively from 1.73%±0.3 to 0.44%±0.09 at Gc and from 1.44%±0.36 to 0.44%±0.13 at Gd. To spleen study, were quantified red pulp, white pulp and connective tissue; were used five animals in negative group (Gc) and four animals in positive group (Gd). The weight and volume of the spleens of the animals differ on the average of, respectively, 9.44g±1.96 and 10ml3±2.58 and the Gc and 17.83g±10.66 17.25 ml3±10.92 in Gd, both were statistically significant. The red pulp in FeLV negatives animals (Gc) and positives (Gd) differ on the average of 73.08%±3.13 and 73.85%±4.53 (p=0.39); the white pulp varied average of 6.02%±2.02 and in Gc 8.38%±2.92 in Gd (p=0.34), connective tissue changed from 13.28%±1.69 in Gc and 12.11%±2.51 in Gd. In both cases, only the quantification of thymic corpuscles and the weight of spleens had a statistical difference between groups; the other data were no difference, demonstrating that infection by FeLV was unable to modify the normal architecture of the organs studied.
