The Evolution Of The Minority Rights And The Continuity And Change Of The Greek Minority Policies In Western Thrace

Ozturk, Alpay 01 July 2005 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis analyzes the evolution of minority protection in general and Greece&rsquo / s minority policies in Western Thrace especially since the beginning of 1990s. The examination of the definition and the scope of the term minority is followed by the analysis of the evolution of minority rights since Westphalia Agreement to Framework Convention for Protection of National Minorities to facilitate the analysis of the evolution of Greek minority policies. The thesis includes the history of Greek minority policy since its establishment to compare and contrast the continuities and changes of the Greek minority policies before and after 1990s. This thesis also seeks to find the causes of continuities and changes of the Greek minority policy along with detailed analysis of the policies and practices after 1990s, and argues that the Greek minority policy in Western Thrace basically presents continuity with its exclusivist and ethnocentric tendencies in spite of minor modifications due to the circumstantial factors.

Identita řecké menšiny a její transnacionální aktivity v ČR / Identity of the greek minority and its transnational activities in the CR

Hluchá, Zuzana January 2010 (has links)
The main content of this Thesis is to assess the situation of the Greek minority in the territory of the Czech Republic in the context of its arrival, settlement and integration to the major society. The aim is to assess the current situation of the minority and its transnational activities. The Greek minority in our country is numerically stable and fully integrated into the main society. The typical feature of minority is the identification with other members of minority trough their organizations and also through the internal identification with the country of their origin (namely Greece), by the traditional culture, history, cuisine and language. The Thesis is divided into eight parts that are relevant to understanding the problems of Greek minority in our country in the context of involuntary emigration from war torn Greece in the 1950's. The methods used in this thesis were the secondary analyses and the field research (the questionnaire survey). The simple statistical methods were used to gain final result. Key worlds: Greek minority, migration, identity, transnational, diaspora.

Minnet av 6-7 septemberhändelserna - istanbulbornas minne av upploppet mot den grekiska minoriteten

Berntsson, Åsa January 2010 (has links)
The memory of expulsions among the expelling groups has been fairly studied, and has potential to create new conflicts. This qualitative study uses in-depth interviews to describe the memory of the 6-7 September events and the Greek minority in Istanbul among a group of Turkish descent people living in Beyoglu, Istanbul. Further the study compares the memory with the written history and explains why the memories of the past are shaped according to the present. The Greek minority of Istanbul are remembered in words of friendship and neighbourliness, but these memories are rather a nostalgia of the past for present needs than an image of the past itself. The memories of the events among the studied group are dominated by the general destruction occasioned by the riots but tend to contradict the violence towards the Greek minority. There exists a discrepancy between the memory and the written history concerning the acts of violence during the riots, the underlying causes of the riots and the period after the events. This article explains the reconstructed memory as a product of strategies for avoiding the experience of collective guilt.
