This intermediate scale of urban, which is groupings of cities, has different ways of grasping, knowable, the phenomena that manifest themselves. The concepts of conurbation and urban agglomeration are used to define the urban groupings, however, these concepts have different meanings: conurbation from the autonomy of the cities; conurbation as coalescence of urban areas; urban agglomerate urban center; and urban agglomerate as complex that involves more than one city. Thus, the overall objective of this work is to understand the spatial dynamics of the grouping formed by the small cities of Barra do Garças-MT, Pontal do Araguaia-MT and Aragarças-GO, checking if the grouping features of conurbation or urban agglomeration. Specifically, the objective: analyze the bibliography that deals with groups of cities, listing the elements characteristic of spatial agglomeration and urban conurbation; investigate the genesis and the evolution of cities that make up the Group; analyze the spatial dynamics of the group considering the population, the economy, urban equipment, management and spatial interactions; and check the spatial contradiction between the towns while political-administrative units fragmented and economically integrated. The methodological procedures of this research were: bibliographical research, secondary data collection and fieldwork, as well as analysis and treatment of the empirical material and documentary. Finally, the data linked to the theory were analyzed with the objective of understanding the spatial dynamics of the group against the characteristics of the phenomena of conurbation and urban agglomeration, thereby risking a definition for the Group involving the cities investigated. / As mais variadas formas pelas quais o fenômeno urbano se manifesta por meio da produção do espaço, possibilitaram a formação de cidades, que ultrapassam os limites políticoadministrativos, identificando assim, a existência de uma escala intermediária entre o espaço urbano e a rede urbana que se revela em forma de agrupamentos de cidades. Essa escala intermediária do urbano, na qual se encontram os agrupamentos de cidades, apresenta diferentes formas de apreender, inteligivelmente, os fenômenos que ali se manifestam. Os conceitos de conurbação e de aglomeração urbana são os mais utilizados para definir os agrupamentos urbanos, no entanto, esses conceitos apresentam diferentes significados: conurbação a partir da autonomia das cidades; conurbação como coalescência de áreas urbanas; aglomerado urbano como centro urbano; e aglomerado urbano como complexo que envolve mais de uma cidade. Assim, o objetivo geral deste trabalho é compreender a dinâmica espacial do agrupamento de cidades de pequeno porte formado pelas cidades de Barra do Garças-MT, Pontal do Araguaia-MT e Aragarças-GO, verificando se o agrupamento apresenta características de conurbação ou de aglomeração urbana. Especificamente, objetivou-se: analisar a bibliografia que versa sobre os agrupamentos de cidades, elencando os elementos espaciais característicos de conurbação e de aglomeração urbanas; investigar a gênese e a evolução das cidades que formam o agrupamento; analisar a dinâmica espacial do agrupamento, considerando a população, a economia, os equipamentos urbanos, a gestão e as interações espaciais; e verificar a contradição espacial entre as cidades enquanto unidades político-administrativas fragmentadas e socioeconomicamente integradas. Os procedimentos metodológicos da pesquisa foram: pesquisa bibliográfica, coleta de dados secundários e trabalho de campo, além de análise e tratamento do material empírico e documental. Por fim, os dados articulados com a teoria foram analisados com o objetivo de compreender a dinâmica espacial do agrupamento frente às características dos fenômenos de conurbação e de aglomeração urbana, permitindo, assim, arriscar uma definição para o agrupamento que envolve as cidades investigadas.
