A quantitative, exploratory, descriptive and contextual research study was conducted to establish the effect of reinforcement of information in phase II cardiac rehabilitation of myocardial infarction patients. Its aim was to determine the sufficiency of patient education during hospitalisation and the necessity for reinforcing information during follow-up sessions after the patient's discharge from hospital. Patients from two private hospitals in Gauteng were involved in the study. A quasi-experimental research design, namely the comparison group posttest-only design, was implemented with no random assignment of subjects to the experimental and control groups. A convenient non-probability sampling method was used and data was collected by means of questionnaires. The data analysis revealed that patients received sufficient education during hospitalisation, but that discharged patients still believed follow-up sessions to be a necessity. No significant difference was found in the knowledge levels of the experimental and control groups.

Health Sciences / M.A. (Nursing)

Guidelines for the development of youth mentor programmesArnolds, Lionel 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2004. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Close, personal relationships with adults are seen to contribute positively to the
development of young people. Whilst mentoring has been established in other
parts of the world, it is a relatively new concept in South Africa. The purpose of
this study is to establish guidelines for the development of youth mentoring
programmes.
The literature study deals with the human development of youth during
adolescence. Those factors, both within the family as well as in the environment,
that affect the development of young people, are discussed. The phases of the
mentoring process is also described. The Hearts of Men mentoring programme is
used as an example of a youth mentoring programme that is based in the
community.
An exploratory and descriptive study was undertaken in order to describe the
development of youth during adolescence. An empirical study was undertaken
based on the literature review. A sample comprised of 18 young people
participating in the Hearts of Men mentoring programme in the Strand was
involved in the study. With the help of the empirical study the perception of the
young people with regard to the mentor and mentee roles was examined.
The findings of the study reveal that the young people in the Hearts of Men
programme have a positive experience of the mentoring process and have an
understanding of the mentor and mentee roles.
In order to establish youth mentoring programmes, organisations must possess
the knowledge of and skills in the mentoring process and must have an
understanding of the human development of young people as well as of theories
relating to their development.
Die Hearts of Men program is gebruik as 'n voorbeeld
literatuurstudie is gedoen.

Optimisation de la prise en charge des coeurs univentriculaires : approche chirurgicale et énergétique / Optimization of the management of univentricular hearts : surgical and energetic approachGerelli, Sébastien 22 September 2016 (has links)
Malheureusement, le pronostic à long terme reste péjoratif. / Univentricular hearts are congenital heart diseases, not compatible with life. Fontan transformed the prognosis of these patients by restoring a passive pulmonary circulation. Unfortunately, the long-term prognosis remains pejorative. To reduce the morbidity and mortality of these patients, we developed a surgical preconditioning protocol, allowing a percutaneous Fontan totalization, adaptive to pulmonary resistance and to the working capacity of the ventricle. We observed that the mitochondrial respiratory chains do not have the ability to adapt their energy production toward work. The desequilibrium of the Nitroso-redox balance will generate mitohormesis and hormesis, then will inevitably occur a poorly adaptive myocardial remodeling. The only way to improve the long-term prognosis of these patients is to increase the myocardial oxidative capacities of the single ventricle or to create a pulmonary pump.

Využití historie první světové války v médiu počítačových her / Deployments of World War I History in the Medium of Video GamesŠindelář, Jakub January 2018 (has links)
The thesis is a comparative case study, that applies the typology of deployments of history of S. A. Metzger and R. J. Paxton on the World War I video games Battlefield 1 and Valiant Hearts. The objective of the thesis is to compare the studied games and to evaluate the usefulness and limitations of the applied typology as an analytical tool. A. Chapman's analytical framework for the formal analysis of historical video games is used as a methodological guideline. The "texts" of the video games serve as the main data source, complemented by the use of Let's Play videos, that allow a deeper level of analysis in certain areas and offer a glimpse of how historical representations and narratives are being consumed. Results show that both games present a rich and critical view of the World War I history and that they offer space for representation of marginalized groups. The game Valiant Hearts, unlike the game Battlefield 1, has a strong anti-war message and tells its story from a transnational perspective, emphasizing the Franco-German reconciliation. The game Battlefield 1 celebrates the combat heroism of the soldiers of individual nations and avoids completely the portrayal of civilians and the impact of the war on their lives. The World War I in this game is likened to the Second World War and it...
