The search for happiness has motivated the men, troughout the time, to build various concepcions of idealized cities. The city of São Gonçalo, during the 1950s has had a great urban euphoria with the creation of many building lots in the hope of developing a perfect city with the progress, understood as being the step o full accomplishment. The politicians of the city the councilmen and the mayor beltween 1950 and 1954, motivated by the building lots, built imaginary cities that can be seen in many documents issued by the municipality and the councilmen. These documents were necessary to the Political Campaigns, to the meetings of the councilmen and to the reports of the local newspaper O São Gonçalo. Set in cultural history of the urban, this research has gone through the different examples about the city of São Gonçalo, givingmore emphasis to the dream of building the perfect city, and less atention to the real material constructions. / A busca pela felicidade motivou os homens, ao longo do tempo, a construírem variadas concepções de cidades idealizadas. O município de São Gonçalo, na década de 1950, assistiu a uma grande euforia urbana com a introdução de diversos loteamentos. Na esperança de alcançar a cidade perfeita através do Progresso, entendido como o estágio de realização plena, os políticos do município, tanto vereadores quanto prefeito, no período compreendido entre 1950 e 1954, motivados pelos loteamentos, construíram cidades imaginárias vistas nos variados documentos expedidos pela Prefeitura e Câmara necessários à prática política, bem como nas Atas de reuniões dos Vereadores e nas diversas reportagens do jornal local O São Gonçalo. Alocada na história cultural do urbano, esta pesquisa percorreu as variadas representações sobre a cidade de São Gonçalo, refletindo menos nas construções materiais e mais nos desejos de construção da cidade perfeita.
