This thesis deals with the topic of human liberty as it was developed in The Great Catechism by St. Gregory of Nyssa. It is concerned with the importance and role of liberty in the particular periods of the history of salvation (creation, fall and redemption) and with the relation between liberty and other important themes of Gregory's work: man as the image of God and as a creature composed of soul and body; the human's fall and the turn from the real good (which is God) towards evil; new life acquired from Christ's resurrection and the adoption of this new life through baptism and the Eucharist. The man was created for life in freedom; life oriented towards the real good: the God. The man cannot be really free without this orientation towards God, but on the other hand this orientation cannot exist without freedom either. God gave man the life and after the fall he returns it to him, but the acceptance and the shape of this life is at all times dependent on the man's decision. The man, as a created being, is someone who changes all the time. And it is just because he can again and again decide about these never-ending changes of himself, that he can have in his power not only his deeds, but also himself: he is his own master, as God is.

Pojem dějin u Theodora W. Adorna a Waltera Benjamina / The Concept of History in the Works of Theodor W. Adorno and Walter BenjaminKettner, Marek January 2020 (has links)
The thesis examines the concept of history in the thinking of Walter Benjamin and Theodor W. Adorno. It systematically inquires into texts of the period between 1913 and 1932. Benjamin's thought is interpreted in its whole, with regards to his key concepts of messianic salvation, profane revolution, biblical fall, mythical positing of right, and actuality of the present. Adorno's contribution to the concept of history is examined on the basis of three early texts from the beginning of the thirties. The thesis follows first the evolution of the concept of history in the thought of Benjamin and then turns toward the relation between the explicated deliberations regarding the theme and the conception of Adorno. The major change which occurs during Adorno's accepting of Benjamin's terminology and thoughts lies in the fact that the concept of history is moved from the theological-eschatological context to the context of praxis. Dějiny spásy v symbolice byzantské liturgie sv. Jana Zlatoústého / The history of salvation in the symbology of the Byzantic liturgy of Saint John ChrysostomFOGL, Jaroslav January 2007 (has links)
The thesis deals with the questions, how the Christians in the Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom remind themselves the history of salvation and how they make the history of salvation present (i. e. anamnesis of the history of salvation) trough the symbols followed by the word. In the first part the author deals with the Christians symbolic acts in the liturgy as the symbolic acts express their relation to God. In the next part he pays attention to the process of the celebration of the liturgy of Saint John Chrisostom. These themes that describe symbolic acts of celebration are followed by the chapter that deals with the spiritual aspects of the liturgy. For a better orientation in the next text he closes the introductory part with the theological conception of the selected authors of the liturgical commentaries. In the main part of the thesis the author focuses on the history of the liturgy and on the liturgical commentaries of the selected authors of the Orthodox Christianity, who influenced the development of the Byzantine liturgy. Further, he focuses on the analysis of the present text of the liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom, where he searches for the ways the anamnesis of the history of salvation is reached. In the final part of the work he presents the results of the analysis and concludes that the Jesus life is really reminded and made present in the particular parts of the Byzantine liturgy.

Previous issue date: 2012-03-19 / This dissertation is focused to presente the typological hermeneutic method as a tool to understand the reading of the Gospel of Matthew 4.15-16 of the Isaiah s prophecy of 8.23 9.1 [MT]. The text will be noted from the Masoretic Text and the Septuagint, when compared with the Greek text of Matthew. Therefore, the first century Jewish context will be studied to understand more fully the environment in wich the evangelist was possible to write his gospel. The techniques of interpretation considered in parallel with the typology of greatest importance to this work are: three rabbinical techniques, that is, pesher, midrah haggadah and gezerah shavah, and three other techniques eminently Christian interpretation, that is, double-fulfillment, sensus plenior, typology. Finally, the comparative study of first century Judaism and interpretation techniques will result the choice of typological interpretation, but without a radical rupture with the other schools, but on the contrary, conflicting with some notes of the Dead Sea Scrolls and his apocalypticism. The typological interpretation will deal with the similarities between the Old and the New Testament texts, for a more comprehensive understanding of the scenario. Will be considered three common themes of the two texts that establish a relation between them, that is, the geography, the Gentiles and the interpretation of light / Esta dissertação tem por foco apresentar o método hermenêutico tipológico como ferramenta proposta para compreender a leitura realizada pelo evangelho de Mateus 4.15-16 da profecia de Isaías 8.23 9.1 [TM]. O texto receberá atenção a partir do Texto Massorético e da Septuaginta, sempre em comparação com o texto grego de Mateus. Por conseguinte, o contexto judaico do primeiro século será estudado para compreender mais amplamente o ambiente em que o evangelista possivelmente se encontrava para escrever o seu evangelho. As técnicas de interpretação contempladas em paralelo com a tipologia, consideradas de maior importância para este trabalho são: três técnicas rabínicas, isto é, pesher, midrah e gezerah shavah, e outras três técnicas de interpretação eminentemente cristãs, isto é, duplo-cumprimento, o sensus plenior e a tipologia. Por fim, o estudo comparativo do judaísmo do primeiro século e das técnicas de interpretação resultará na escolha da interpretação tipológica, mas sem um radical rompimento com as demais escolas, pelo contrário, conflitando com alguns apontamentos dos Rolos do Mar Morto e seu apocalipticismo. A interpretação tipológica se ocupará com as semelhanças entre o texto veterotestamentário e o neotestamentário, bem como semelhanças que poderiam compor um cenário mais abrangente. Serão considerados três temas comuns dos dois textos que estabelecem um vínculo entre ambos, ou seja, a geografia, os gentios e a interpretação da luz.

This dissertation is an exploration of the relationship of wisdom to salvation history in the book of Psalms. The notional starting point of this thesis is a conviction that there might be a juncture at which the two themes converge because in certain psalms such as Psalm 78, the Israelite concept of salvation appears to have a close relationship with the wisdom theme. In the history of Psalm interpretation so far, the concept of wisdom psalm has not been properly dealt with due to scholastic difficulty in ascertaining the clear criteria of a genre. The process of scrutinizing the history of interpretation showed that the Psalms in their final form were far more purposeful than were previously understood. The major guiding principles of the method employed are: (1) 'the canonical approach' of Brevard Childs; (2) 'the canonical criticism' of James Sanders; (3) 'the canonical process approach' of Bruce Waltke; (4) 'the Christo-canonical approach' of Jerry E. Shepherd; and (5) 'the communito-canonical approach' of deClaissé-Walford. This thesis made use of these methodological principles by attempting to read the Psalter from the beginning to the end, and by focusing mainly on the final stage of the Psalter proposed by B. Waltke as the third stage, or the final and complete Old Testament canon associated with the Second Temple, and by purposefully limiting the scope of our study to around the post-exilic period.
Having dealt with the issue of classifying the wisdom psalm, the presence of the wisdom motif in many psalms which do not fall into the wisdom category serves to add a didactic dimension to the entire Psalter. In so doing, we reach a conclusion that what we are dealing with is not merely the wisdom psalms within the Psalms, but 'the wisdom Psalter' as a literary unit. Then, it can be said that the Psalter is not merely an anthology of individual psalms used for cult, but was meant to be read also as a source of min , an instruction. This means that every psalm in the Psalter has pedagogical potential, which may have been the ostensible intent of the editor(s) at the final stage of the formation of the Psalter.
On this premise, this study attempts to set up a strategy to read the Psalms from the beginning to the end from book I up to book V as a wisdom Psalter, with a particular focus on how the wisdom motif relates to the salvation history motif. The question did not merely concern their interpretation as disjointed pieces, but also what their presence in the book of Psalter meant in terms of the relationship between wisdom and salvation history.
