The sacrament of friendship: disrupting lonely landscapes in American higher education

Cooper, Lynn 03 June 2021 (has links)
Loneliness is on the rise. Students in higher education report increased feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression and the non-stop transactional culture rarely leaves time for quiet self-reflection or the cultivation of deep ties. Drawing connections between this spiritual impoverishment and the infantilization of Roman Catholic laity, this project engages a theopoetic of the Holy Trinity and feminist ecclesiology to argue for an expansion of sacramental consciousness. My strategic proposal for transformation rests in the design of a sacramental friendship program that nourishes a posture towards receptivity, innovation, just discipleship, and gratitude. This spacious scaffolding invites students to dig deep into their already holy lives, developing the skills of active listening and mindful presence to prioritize relationships over tasks.

Poutní kostel Nejsvětější Trojice v Trhových Svinech / The pilgrimage church of the Holy Trinity at Trhové Sviny

Nedbalová, Alice January 2012 (has links)
The pilgrimage church of Holy Trinity in Trhové Sviny Abstract This thesis presents a monograph of the pilgrimage church of Holy Trinity near Trhové Sviny. It focuses on its origin, historical background and the benefactors of the building and finally on the artistic value of the church. The work deals not only with a description of the church's architecture, but also looks into patterns and analogies with the Bavarian pilgrimage churches such as the one in Kappel near Waldsassen. Interestingly, the unifying element is the iconography of the Holy Trinity, which is reflected in the architecture and decoration of the church, in frescoes and the mobiliar. This iconographic concept is cleverly thought out, especially in the Trinitarian symbolism of the number three and the triangle motif that is repeated several times here. A valuable contribution is the main altar from Matěj Václav Jäckel, who probably created the church pulpit as well. The frescoes celebrating the Holy Trinity were made by Carlo Bonanelli who worked in the nearby České Budějovice. The church is an interesting result of the unifying principles of Baroque theology with the ultimate art design work. And we must not forget the question of the baroque feeling demonstrated through an impressive setting of the church in the landscape. Pilgrimage...

Stakliškės: XVII-XX a. I pusė / Stakliskes: XVII – the 1st half of XX century

Balsevičiūtė, Rita 30 June 2009 (has links)
Darbo tikslas – išnagrinėti Stakliškių miestelio istorijos raidą XVII–XX a. pirmojoje pusėje. / The subject of this work for the Master of Science is the history of the Town of Stakliskes during the 17th Century through the first half of 20th Century. The work consists of introduction, 3 chapters with sections, conclusion, listings of abbreviations, sources and bibliography, as well as the enclosures. This kind of job structure was influenced by the chronological-problematic job research principal. The author discussing the historic development of the Town of Stakliskes, by distinguishing its most important stages, describing the stages of its religions heritage, and identifying its population’s demographic, social-economic, religious and cultural-public work during that historic period. Therefore the historic development of the events are outlined in the first chapter of this work, together with explanation of the most important factors (the origin of the estate and the church in Stakliskes). The second chapter talks about the history of the church in Stakliskes, its architectural style and the preservation of artistic and historic values. In the third chapter of this work the author analyzes the population situation and its social work during the 17th Century through the first half of 20th Century. Resurrection of beauty for a postmodern church / Thesis

Herbert, Brook Bradshaw. 11 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to re-assert beauty as a fundamental and essential value within contemporary Christendom as it exists within a postmodern culture. Once a strong and meaningful concept within Christian belief, beauty has been lost over the passage of two millennia. This thesis examines the loss of beauty as a meaningful concept in western Christian belief, and offers a re-evaluation of the concept particularly within the postmodern world. Drawing together the fundamental concerns of postmodern society and the contribution that beauty is able to make from within the Christian context, this thesis demonstrates that "beauty" speaks to contemporary concerns and meets its deepest needs. Here, beauty, understood as the relational aspect of forms conceived by God, and offered to humanity as gift, is shown to overcome the affective sterility that has overtaken western society as an effect of enlightenment thought. An examination of the concept of beauty, particularly in the works of Thomas Aquinas, Jonathan Edwards and Gerard Manley Hopkins serves as a basis to posit a definition of beauty that is consistent with Christian beliefs without violating its unique content. Tracing the loss of beauty in western Christian thought and in western culture at large, and recognising the absence of a similar phenomenon within the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches, suggests that the genius of these eastern traditions is their refusal to minimise the notion of "mystery" that stands at the heart of Christian revelation. The western Church then, is called to refocus on the centrality of the "mystery" inherent in her life. To this end, contemplation is proposed as the avenue wherein the believer experiences an intimate and transforming encounter with the Triune God which leads to the fruition of unique personhood that increasingly takes form as the "beauty of holiness." / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D. The starting point that was chosen for the thesis were the works of various Pentecostal and charismatic authors whose main viewpoints are being compared in key points with those of traditional, conservative theologians.
