It aims to show the duality of the pilgrimage that brings devotion to the holy dead, as conceived by the Church and devotion to the living saint, as perceived by devotees. It is intended also present a new approach to the phenomenon of pilgrimage in Canindé in the current context and make the way of construction of the identity of the devotee. The study, although based on religion, breaks the social situation of abandonment that is the pilgrim, which justifies research into the causes that lead to gather in a large group whose members are linked by faith in the living saint. Sustains the hypothesis that in the pilgrimage, the devotee unveils the riddle of living saint, discovering himself through awareness of their subjectivity and their position in the world, which leads him to overcome his troubles and losses . For harvests data will be performed procedures such as observation of the field, focusing on the rituals, attitudes and way of being of the pilgrim, pilgrims and interviews with the survey of his life history, collection and analysis of the liturgical and devotional materials, such as former -wishes, prayers, chants, prayers, letters. Data analysis will be made by an assessment of thematic framing in qualitative research. To print more reliability to the research will be performed two interviews, taped or transcribed, to be compared. The results show that in the pilgrimage city of Canindé in search of the living saint Francis of Assisi is established as the stage of overcoming struggles and oppression of the devotees, giving them the opportunity to establish an affective relationship with the holy, to build their identity and reframe his life / Este trabalho tem como objeto de pesquisa investigar a peregrinação dos devotos de São Francisco de Assis que ocorre anualmente na cidade de Canindé, apontando os enigmas dessa caminhada e seu desvendamento pela descoberta do santo vivo e da união com ele. Objetiva-se mostrar a dualidade da peregrinação que congrega a devoção ao santo morto, como concebido pela Igreja, e a devoção ao santo vivo, como concebido pelos devotos. Pretende-se, ainda, apresentar uma nova concepção do fenômeno da peregrinação em Canindé no contexto atual e perfazer o caminho da construção da identidade do devoto. O estudo, embora fundamentado na religiosidade, deflagra a situação de abandono social em que se encontra o peregrino, o que justifica a investigação das causas que o levam a se reunir em um grande grupo, cujos integrantes se ligam pela fé no santo vivo. Sustenta-se a hipótese de que, na romaria, o devoto desvenda o enigma do santo vivo, descobrindo-se a si mesmo por meio da consciência de sua subjetividade e da sua posição no mundo, o que o leva a superar suas angústias e perdas. Para colheta de dados, serão realizados procedimentos como observação do campo, focalizando as ritualizações, as atitudes e a forma de ser do peregrino, entrevistas com os romeiros e levantamento de sua história de vida, coleta e análise dos materiais litúrgicos e devocionais, tais como ex-votos, orações, cantos, rezas, cartas. A análise dos dados será feita por meio da apreciação temática, enquadrando a pesquisa no tipo qualitativo. Para imprimir maior confiabilidade à pesquisa, serão desenvolvidas duas entrevistas, gravadas ou transcritas, para ser comparadas entre si. Os resultados atestam que a peregrinação na cidade de Canindé em busca do santo vivo Francisco de Assis se instaura como palco de superação das lutas e opressões dos devotos, dando-lhes a oportunidade de estabelecer uma relação afetiva com o santo, construir sua identidade e ressignificar sua vida
