It aims to examine how, in the hybrid narrative, there is the conjunction of two languages: the verbal and the visual, without the privilege of one of them, requiring a new attitude not only of the author and the illustrator — who begin to divide the co-authoring of the work — but also of the reader and the mediator. Even with a considerable range of authors and works being produced in the literary market, critical studies concerning youth literature are still scarce, which justifies our study, which becomes more relevant when proposing the analysis of the confluence of verbal and visual language, and this aspect is still little discussed in Brazilian criticism. Based on the bibliographic research and assuming the hypothetical-deductive method, the present study is organized in three chapters. In the first one, we present the route that has been traced by contemporary youth literature in order to point out the thematic and structural innovations observed in the novels. In the second chapter, we deal with the hybrid novel concept and we engage the analysis of the novel Luna Clara & Apolo Onze, proposing the joint reading of the verbal and visual text, in order to show how the simultaneous reading of the different languages promotes different and enriching possibilities of meaning. Finally, in the third chapter, we show the effects of meaning generated by the articulation between word and image, and investigate the four pillars involved in the construction of the novel: the writer, the illustrator, the reader and the mediator. Among the theoretical basis used are the reflections of Zöe Sadokierski, Eve Tandoi, Teresa Colomer, Maria Nikolajeva and Carole Scott and Vitor Manuel de Aguiar e Silva / Esta dissertação tem como proposta investigar a construção da narrativa híbrida, também denominada de hybrid novel, a partir da leitura de Luna Clara & Apolo Onze (2002), de Adriana Falcão, com ilustrações de José Carlos Lollo. Almeja-se perscrutar de que forma, na narrativa híbrida, há a conjunção de duas linguagens: a verbal e a visual, sem que haja o privilégio de uma delas, exigindo uma nova postura não apenas do autor e do ilustrador – que passam a dividir a coautoria da obra – mas também do leitor e do mediador. Mesmo com uma gama considerável de autores e obras sendo produzidas no mercado literário, os estudos críticos concernentes à literatura juvenil ainda são escassos, o que justifica o nosso estudo, o qual ganha maior relevância ao propor a análise da confluência da linguagem verbal e visual, aspecto este ainda pouco discutido na crítica brasileira. Baseado na pesquisa bibliográfica e assumindo o método hipotético-dedutivo, o presente estudo está organizado em três capítulos. No primeiro, apresentamos o percurso que vem sendo traçado pela literatura juvenil contemporânea de modo a destacar as inovações temáticas e estruturais que nas obras se observam. No segundo capítulo, abordamos o conceito de hybrid novel e empreendemos a análise do romance Luna Clara & Apolo Onze, propondo a leitura conjunta do texto verbal e visual, a fim de evidenciar como a leitura simultânea das diferentes linguagens promove enriquecedoras possibilidades de sentido. Finalmente, no terceiro capítulo, evidenciamos os efeitos de sentido gerados pela articulação entre palavra e imagem, e investigamos os quatro pilares envolvidos na construção do romance: o escritor, o ilustrador, o leitor e o mediador.
