The Wanderers

My work focuses on moments that convey a wide range of human emotion. Through examination of these private moments, I investigate contemporary issues of isolation, alienation, and anguish. In my artwork, unrecognizable landscapes and unidentifiable solitary figures grace panoramic canvases devoid of color and fine detail yielding scenes that, while rooted in reality, lend themselves to the surreal. The compositions are designed to evoke feelings of unease, as the viewer is confronted with figures experiencing raw emotion.

Cycles of Nature

My work focuses on my physical connection to the earth. I translate what I see and visualize in nature into graphic shapes and patterns using textiles, fibers, and paints. Further, I interweave these materials through a variety of techniques, and I incorporate sewn lines to create compositions highlighting natural elements that depict the course of life. I employ a hands-on, low technology approach. This tactic contrasts my work as a professional graphic designer. While my professional efforts generally lack a physical connection with nature, due to digital simulations of real objects, my personal artwork allows me to step away from the insipid technology tools commonly used in today’s society.

Conjoint Recall and Phantom Recollection

Explaining false memory has been a strong resource to understand how memory works in general. More than two decades of research on false memories show that false memories are a complex phenomenon that made most of the established theories of memory insufficient. Phantom recollection is a specific part of the false memory phenomena that consists of a memory illusion in which subjects have a false recollective phenomenology that resembles true recollections. Two experiments following DRM's paradigm served to study phantom recollection in adults, manipulating variables such as Level of processing, Type of voice, Retrieval time and Repetition. The three proper instructions of a mathematical model named Conjoint Recall were applied in order to have separate measures of the phantom recollection manifestations. Ninety American and 90 Mexican university students participated. The results of the experiments disconfirm IAR explanations of phantom recollection, but confirm most of Fuzzy-trace-theory's assumptions on this phenomenon (Brainerd, Payne, Wright, and Reyna, 2003).

The Raddled Vessel

The wearing effects of being overworked and in somewhat poor health are reflected in my paintings, ceramic work, and mixed media pieces. I use old and dilapidated materials such as window frames, instrument cases, and wood to symbolically address my physical and emotional states. I reuse items from the past that show a sense of fatigue, tattered edges, and deterioration. Like these objects I felt run down, old, and at times, useless. However, I am comforted by the idea that old objects can, with some care, regain new life. I have discovered I seek my own rejuvenation through my creativity. As a means of releasing anger and frustration toward my fading health, I create assemblages of wilted flowers, encaustic hourglass forms, and mixed media teapots. I also create clay vessels that appear to be deteriorating and encapsulate objects in encaustic medium. Items that belonged to my relatives serve as a metaphor for my genetic illnesses. Searching for answers, living in the present, and maintaining hope are things I carry with me on my artistic journey to find a sense of self worth and to overcome disease.

Accurate wide-area tracking for architectural, engineering and surveying applications.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a powerful tool for the visualisation of, and interaction with, digital information, and has been successfully deployed in a number of consumer applications. Despite this, AR has had limited success in industrial applications as the combined precision, accuracy, scalability and robustness of the systems are not up to industry standards. With these characteristics in mind, we present a concept Industrial AR (IAR) framework for use in outdoor environments. Within this concept IAR framework, we focus on the improving the precision and accuracy of consumer level devices by focusing on the issue of localisation, utilising LiDAR based point clouds generated as part of normal surveying and engineering workflow. We evaluate key design points to optimise the localisation solution, including the impact of increased field of view on feature matching performance, the filtering of feature matches between real imagery and an observed point cloud, and how pose can be estimated from 2D to 3D point correspondences. The overall accuracy of this localisation algorithm with respect to ground-truth observations is determined, with unfiltered results indicating an on par horizontal accuracy and significantly improved vertical accuracy with best-case consumer GNSS solutions. When additional filtering is applied, results of localisation show a higher accuracy than best-case consumer GNSS.

Modern medicinering medför att patienter kan behandlas mer effektivt om den tas pårätt sätt. När patienter själva ansvarar för sin medicinering kan den feldoseras ellerglömmas bort, vilket ändrar förutsättningar för dess inverkan. Glömska kombineradmed sinnesnedsättningar försvårar för patienten att sköta sin medicinering.Lösningen på detta problem är idag utökad hemvård där vårdpersonal hjälper patientenatt ta rätt medicin vid rätt tidpunkt. En teknisk lösning kan vara ett inbyggt systemsom påminner patienten, sparar missade doseringar och kan därmed ge mer informationtill läkare som då kan göra mer välgrundade beslut för fortsatt vård.Resultaten visar att en dosettask kan användas för att påminna patienter att ta sinmedicin och skicka missad dosering med närfältskommunikation. Som mikrokontrolleranvändes en STM32 Nucleo, med en tillståndsmaskin som mjukvarulösning. I vidarestudier kan ett realtidsoperativsystem användas. Systemet programmerades medArduinos utvecklingsmiljö, men ett alternativ är IAR. Projektets prototyp kunde medde flesta modulerna uppnå specifikationens batteritid, utöver ljudmodulen som användes.För att komma fram till detta resultat skapades två teoretiska extremfall därprototypen testades.Dosettasken kan leda till minskat pillersvinn och en lägre kostnad då färre hembesökkrävs. Dessutom resulterar detta i ökad självständighet för patienten. Dessa faktorerleder till att dosettasken bidrar till en ökad hållbar utveckling. / Modern medication allows patients to be treated more efficiently if taken properly.When patients themselves are responsible for their medication, it can be wronglydosed or forgotten, which changes the conditions for its effects. Forgetfulness combinedwith impaired senses make it difficult for the patient to take care of his medication.The solution to this problem today is increased home care, where healthcare professionalshelp patients to take the right medication at the right time. A technical solutioncan be an embedded system that reminds the patient, saves missed dosages, and canprovide more information to doctors who can make more informed decisions for furthercare.The results show that a pill dispenser can be used to remind patients to take their medicationand send missed dosages with near field communication. As a microcontroller,a STM32 Nucleo was used, with a state machine as software solution. In further studies,a real-time operating system can be used. The system was programmed with Arduino'sdevelopment environment, but an alternative is IAR. The prototype of the projectcould achieve the specifications battery life with most modules, except to thesound module used. To achieve this result, two theoretical extremes were created inwhich the prototype was tested.The pill dispenser can lead to reduced waste of pills and a lower cost, as fewer homevisits are required. In addition, this results in increased independence for the patient.These factors cause the pill dispenser to contribute to increased sustainable development.
