The persuasive effect of radio commercials: from theElaboration Likelihood Model perspective

Weng, Chun-hung 12 July 2007 (has links)
Since its commencement, the radio industry has been facing challenges from new media such as TV and later, the Internet. Nowadays, radio is widely regarded as a traditional medium that is fading away. However, the audio-oriented media feature of radio endows itself with a unique niche that could not be replaced by other video media. That is why radio advertisements are especially favored by advertisers. This research applies the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) to radio advertising research, aiming to deliberate the persuasion effect of radio advertisements, which would be one of the few advertising-related studies in our country recently. This research utilizes the experimental method, a 2 (strong or weak argument quality) by 2 (reliable or attractive communicator quality) between-subject factorial design. 160 participants were randomly assigned to 4 experimental conditions, each with different stimulus of experimental ads. In addition, this study considers the degree of involvement with the advertised product as the mediating variable. In this research, the results shows that high-involvement subjects are mainly influenced by the argument quality in the radio ads. When high-involvement subjects are exposed to ads with strong argument quality, better evaluations on the ads , brands, credibility and cognition are generated. In addition, in the research both high-involvement or low-involvement subjects are not obviously influenced by communicator quality factors. However, if the advertisement takes an approach combining strong argument quality with a reliable communicator, high-involvement subjects would generate better attitudinal evaluations on the ads and brands. It is interesting that the advertisement shows an attractive female, the males would generate higher evaluation on brands attitude, credibility, behavior intention about this advertisement.

The 2x3 experimental design examined pre-training, post-training and six-month follow-up measurements of an experimental group and control group. Experimental group received a ten-week father involvement training which was developed by the researcher while the control group did not receive any training. Parent Success Indicator (PSI) was used to assess family functioning of fathers and Parent Adolescent Relationship Scale (PARS) was used to assess family functioning of children whose fathers participated in the study. In order to assess peer relationships of children, Peer Relationship Scale (PRS) was used. Data were analyzed by employing Mann Whitney U Test, Friedman Test, and Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test. The results revealed that the Father Involvement Training had significant effects on the father-child relationship and family functioning of experimental group&rsquo / s fathers. The experimental group&rsquo / s fathers had gained higher total scores both at the end of the study and at the follow-up measures in PSI. The adolescents, whose fathers participated in the experimental group, improved in close-relationship and sensitivity dimensions at the end of the study. However, the improvements were not maintained after the six months follow-up measurements. In addition, ratings of the children, whose fathers participated in the experimental group, decreased from pretest to follow-up measures on meeting expectations dimension of the PARS. Lastly, there was a significant improvement in trust and identification dimension of peer relationship levels of children whose fathers received the training compared to children whose fathers did not receive the training. Suppliers

Kanmaz, Gokce 01 May 2011 (has links) (PDF)
New product development is a challenging process which plays a significant role for the rise of the competitiveness of a firm. This process benefits from cooperative relations in the supply network of the firm, such as the collaboration in buyer- supplier relations. The automotive industry presents a good example for studying buyer supplier relations. The positive effects of supplier involvement in product design and development process have been discussed intensely in the literature due to the exceptional success of OEMs &ndash / Original Equipment Manufacturers- in the Japanese automotive industry. This study analyzes the role of suppliers in the automotive sector, the buyer-supplier interface and relations, and new product development process specific to the automotive industry in order to highlight the outcomes of supplier involvement in product development process especially during the design phase. A descriptive questionnaire study on the Turkish automotive supplier industry was conducted. The questionnaire was completed by 25 supplier firms who are members of the Association of Turkish Automotive Parts &amp / Components Manufacturers (TAYSAD) and 5 OEM firms. The questionnaire results show that the level of supplier involvement in the product design phase is low compared to the other project phases such as introduction to the project, prototype production, pre-launch, and mass production. Following this preliminary study, two in-depth interviews were conducted with one OEM and one supplier representatives, and more detailed information on suppliers&rsquo / involvement in product design was gathered. A study of female managers' coping behvaior with work-family conflicts in terms of sex-role attitudes, life-style and job involvement

YU, Hui-Chun, 28 July 2000 (has links)
A Study of Female Managers¡¦ Coping Behavior with Work-Family Conflicts in Terms of Sex-Role Attitudes, Life-Style and Job Involvement Abstract In terms of human resources, female managers has come into a spotlight for their outstanding professional performance, efficiency and competitiveness in today¡¦s business world. According to the 10 managerial roles defined by Mintzberg(1973), female managers are required to take greater responsibility and spend longer working hours at their managerial job. Furthermore, family role expectations also require a female manger¡¦s time and energy. Therefore the fact that multiple role-demands compete a female manager¡¦s limited time is seen, and it is found that female managers are considered to face work-family conflicts more than their female counterparts working at the non-management level. The focus of this dissertation is based on the time-based interrole conflict proposed by Greenhaus & Beutell(1985) and is in accordance with three types of coping behaviors suggested by Hall(1972). This study was conducted in terms of sex-role attitudes, life-style and job involvement to understand how these factors interact with each other, affecting a female manager¡¦s coping behavior as a whole. Furthermore, how each of these factors affects a female manager¡¦s coping behavior with work-family conflicts is also discussed. Four Taiwanese female managers, who are working at the senior management level are interviewed, producing the quantitative data in this study. A case study approach was utilized and a semi-structured interview framework was used based on three factors mentioned above. This study concluded that sex-role attitudes, life-style and job involvement indeed affect a female manager¡¦s behavior to cope with work-family conflicts. It also suggested that better supportive organizational programs, sensitive family supports, and self-identity-clarified by a female manager herself- will aide them in handling work and family obligations, and will provide a ¡§no trouble back home¡¨ environment, allowing them to devote themselves to their managerial work. According to the above result, I can discover the turnover intention of the employees of the Internet industry is getting higher. The employees are confident of their turnover ability, which will induce company loss. Thus I suggest that Internet companies shall combine the fiction with the substantiation to form a new type of enterprise. Furthermore, the result that the female employees have higher turnover intention but higher job involvement is worthy for proprietor of the Internet industry to pay attention to. Because the characteristics of female employees are helpful to the busy Internet working environment, the proprietor or professional managers shall consider to adjust or change the working environment, job content or management system to let female employees fully contribute their talent, lower their turnover intention and benefit the company.
