A creative intelligent object classification system using Google's™ images import search function

Luwes, N.J. January 2012 (has links)
Published Article / Limits of artificial intelligent, expert systems are defined by the specific hardware limitation of the specific system. Limits can be overcome, or addressed, by giving an intelligent system web access; therefore giving it access to Google's™ vast hardware, search functions and databases. Reverse image searches can be done directly in Google's™ image search bar since October 2011. This reverse image search function is used by the proposed system to do object recognition. Computational creativity, or the ability of a program or computer to show human-level creativity and interaction, is achieved by means of a voice communication of the object identification result to the user. The proposed system interprets the result by doing a definition web search and communicating this to the user. The results show that with the novel interpretation software, it should be possible to use Google™ as an artificial intelligent, computational creative system. This proposed system thus has the ability to do object classification by accessing Google's™ vast hardware, search functions and databases, thereafter would the proposed system search a suitable definition for the classification. All of this information is communicated to the user using voice. These techniques could be used on an automatic guided vehicle, robots or expert systems

Fashioning the body : an investigation into the relationship between fashion and the body

Boultwood, Anne January 2003 (has links)
This research has aimed to establish and then explore, the relationship between fashion and the body. Both involve aspects of psychological and social awareness that apparently impact on the individual's understanding of the self, and any relationship between them seems to involve this self-awareness While such a relationship has generally been accepted it has not previously been formally established and it was for this reason that the research was undertaken The research was interdisciplinary involving the application of psychological concepts and knowledge to the experience of fashion and the body. Tbus, it combined fashion theory with that of the social pychology of the body. A qualitative approach utilising in-depth interviews and clothing diaries, was adopted. This involved female participants aged from 40 to 58. Research findings were analysed using the approach of interpretive revealed relationship that is ( innovate and the functional) that seemed to correspond with two aspects of the body( the ideal and the ought), and suggested two fashion processes The innovative process of fashion appears to relate to the ideal body( the body we aspire to), and is responsible for fashion change. The functional process of fashion appears to be primarily related to the ought body( the body we think we should have),and is responsible for the maintenance of fashion trends. In both cases the relationship between fashion and body seems to be mediated by clothing at the interface between clothing and the body, The driving force of both processes seems to be the psychological experience of self-discrepancy. Research resulted in the development of a conceptual model of the relationship that accounted for the processes involved in fashion change. ii

Visual information retrieval : browsing strategies in pictorial databases

Batley, Susan January 1988 (has links)
This research is concerned with the retrieval of visual or pictorial information from videodisc databases. Videodisc technology has made automated storage and retrieval of high quality visual information possible. A problem is that traditional keyword or text access to pictorial information may be inappropriate if the type of information sought cannot be readily described in words. An answer may be to encourage visual searching or browsing. The challenge lies in creating flexible retrieval systems which will both maximise search efficiency and accommodate the individual user. An experimental retrieval environment was developed to examine visual information search strategies. This system allowed for three search types: keyword search, specific browsing, and scanning. Over two experiments visual information search and browsing strategies were identified and characterised: seeking, focused exploring, open exploring, and wandering. In addition, five factors which influence visual information search strategies were identified: the nature of the information itself, database structure, the task or information need, the user, and the interface. This research combines elements of information retrieval and human factors to point to ways in which visual information retrieval systems can be developed which will meet the needs of their users. System design must take account of individual search behaviour and utilise knowledge of the factors which influence user interaction with the system in the search and retrieval process.

Color adjustment of digital images of clothes for truthful rendering

Bengtsson, Matilda January 2016 (has links)
E-commerce is a growing market for selling gods and digital images are often used to display the product. However, there is a problem when the color of the object does not match the reality. This can lead to a dissatisfaction of the customer and a return of the product. Returned goods causes a significant loss in revenue for the suppliers. One reason for untruthful rendering of colors in images is due to different temperatures, or colors, of the illumination sources lighting the scene and the object. This effect can be reduced by a method called white balance. In this thesis, an algorithm based on the technique in Hsu et al. was implemented for a more truthful rendering of images of clothes and toys used in e-commerce. The algorithm removes unwanted color casts induced in the image from two different illumination sources. The thesis also marks important details missing in aforementioned paper as well as some drawbacks of the proposed technique, such as high processing time.
